Friend Says Cruz He Knew Was 'Nice Person'

- (16 Feb 2018) A high school senior from Majory Douglas High School recalls a very different Nikolas Cruz, the accused gunman in the mass shooting in Florida.
Ethan Trieu says he became friends with Cruz in sixth grade, but they had grown apart.
"The Nick I knew like before all this, he was a nice person to me. That's how I remember him," said Trieu.
Cruz is accused of killing 17 people on Wednesday during a shooting rampage at the school.
Trieu says Cruz changed after the death of his father and didn't really have anyone to turn to.
"We all should have been there for him and he had no one to go to. And I feel sorry for him. But I mostly feel sorry for the victims of what happened."
Trieu who stopped by a memorial for the victims called the shooting "completely wrong and disgusting."
Robert Snyder also visited the makeshift memorial with his son.
He said laws need to change and called on Congress to get its act together.

With his father dying, then his mother falling ill and dying, and to top it all off the bullying that Gonzalez (and friends) boasts about at the recent rally this young person, if he was in fact the shooter (there's still no clear evidence, just circumstantial), emotionally broke and it is very sad considering the FBI knew, the local law enforcement knew all too well (dozens of calls about Cruz and didn't have him in their books because they would lose some major funding). There's even voice recordings of Cruz calling the local Sherriff pleading for help, that never came. There is way more to this story that we're not being told or hidden.
I watched the video of his adopted parent's and when asked about the kind of person he was they said the complete opposite of what the media is reporting. The father said we had rules and he always followed those rules. This story does not add up.

If the gun laws change I assure you it will not prevent anyone from getting a firearm. Any high school kid can get an unregistered firearm off the streets easily. I am a high school student and there are plenty of students who have firearms. It’s not the gun laws that is the issue. The shooter would have just found another way to get a gun, it’s not hard. The problem is not gun laws, it’s the lack of kindness that we can be spreading. The most effective thing we can do is to express love and kindness to everyone. We need more love in high schools and less negativity. Life is already hard and high school can be hard alone, as we all know. How hard is it to spread kindness and treat others as you would want to be treated? I am a current high school student and we should all focus on spreading kindness and love to all. Just recently I experienced the lost of a great sweet friend by suicide. At just 16 he made the decision to take his own life. He had so much more ahead, such a kind person with amazing skills. You never know what anyone is going through until it’s too late.

I think the guilt that Nikolas' friends and family carry will last forever. They knew him as a quiet but moody, unhappy kid. He snapped, something just snapped, and something told him guns was the answer to reclaim the control he had lost.
Nikolas is a gone case but he should serve as a warning that decent people can turn monsters in minutes if not given the help they need.
My heart hurts for the victims and their families who never saw this coming, but also for the people who knew him personally who can never understand why he took this step.

People show different sides of themselves. In school he was probably quiet but as time went on he acted out more and wanted attention. At home he was skinning animals alive and setting them on fire for fun. His own brother was keeping him out of his circle of friends and he had no one to talk to except for his mother, whom he loved dearly. Watching Nikolas interact with candour and honesty to the psychiatrist makes you realise no one ever saw him as worthy of their time. We have to read between the lines a lot in this guy's behaviour to find out why he thought guns and shooting would solve all his problems.

I don't know, but I'm trying to deal with a persanol tradegy right now that happened this past Friday at the Veterans Pathway house in Yountville CA. Napa County where a Veteran that I persoanly knew I seen for the past two years one a week went in and killed one of the nicest psychologist and people that I have ever met. Christine Loeber dedicated her life to treat Veterans coming back for the wars with PTSD (I was on of them). She was reall respected and always brought smiles and light to any room she was in. The shooter and I and other members always mentioned how nice and great she was and then this guy goes and shoots her. WTF
