- How to Send and receive CW Morse code Ham Radio Deluxe HDR Icom 7300. Note, the station I have in the video was sending 20 wpm. I set my 7300 to 20 wpm.
Make sure you have the Icom IC 7300 USB Driver installed www.icomjapan....
Thank you for this excellent idea. I have tried for years to connect HRD to my Yaseu FT-950 to do keyboard CW as in my old age I simply cannot learn and remember CW coding to transmit but I really wanted to QSO via CW. By following your video I was able to make the software work with the rig and it works! Thank you! Jim KD2DTJ, 73
Jim, I am glad my video helped. Happy Holidays
Thanks for posting. This also works for the IC-7610.
Thank you for watching my video
I know it is an older video just wanted to say thank you and good job
Thank you for watching my video!!!
Been using HRD since V4 and have not done CW with it yet. Now I know why I get all those I T ** E just plain junk. Thanks. Wasn't even sure which cw mode to try in the software. Have had a Hiethkit CW keyboard for many years and haven't used it either. Will be giving CW with HRD a try.73
what are the settings in the icom?
usb cable only?
great video, very helpful. many many thanks, hope to hear from you on CW ;) best 73´s de Harald DL4HTR

Great video Rich. I was having trouble on and off with the CW (KY). Did yours ever start to give problems when sending if you were using long macros? 73!
Very good video thanks, 73 de SP6CAL
Thank you
Nice video Rich - run HRD this end and gradually getting it working in most modes with trial and error - more error!! The manual is fine to read and some of the demo videos are too much “click this then click thus and you away” - nice to see an actual QSO to see what to actually do once the configuration is done - cheers, appreciated

Thank you Speedy!! I will be making a new one soon. A guy on Ham Radio Deluxe Fan Club on Facebook gave me some tips... Rich
Great video de W2CSI
Thank you! And thank you for watching my video!
Hi Rick. N6NRO here. Quick question. In the waterfall my tunning area (yellow horizonal bar) is very wide, much wider than your example in the video. How do I control that (narrow it)? Thanks my friend. John
John, There is a little skinny bar next to your WPM right above where the CW words are coming in.... It says filter,. You can slide it back and forth. Tnx fer watching my video...
@@RichRodgersOnline Perfect. Thanks so much. God Bless. John
Know it's an older video and I hope you see this.. What are you using as an interface? USB cable and CIV or USB keyer plugged into keyer jack?
I use both plus to usb hun
One wire has a square end like a computer cable. The other is the small which plugs into remote.
@@RichRodgersOnline What mode do you use to send CW? Have you ever had the issue if using just straight CW it will have a delay before it starts sending the tones and misses a few of the letters. But if you resend right away it will be fine?
Tried this but it will not key the radio. Can you explain how the radio is setup for the software?
Did you check with support.hamradiodeluxe.com/support/solutions/articles/51000054679-ic-7300-usb-setup-configuration
Hi Rich. Thank you for making this video. It is extremely helpful for a newbie like myself! I do have a quick question and I apologize if it is a dumb question. What are the numbers you are putting in the sent and received section of the log entry? EX. 599, 559. Thank you for your help.
And here I thought CW was sent using a Morse key, sorry to say, this is not CW sending.
Hi Max, Some have lost hearing and it becomes difficult to hear CW. I worked in machine shop for almost 38 years and have hearing loss. Some has shaky hands yet they can operate a keyboard. If people enjoy CW with a key or a keyboard it is still CW. One thought, Max, the more people who use the CW portion of the band it is better for the CW users. A big fear that if there are less CW operators it would be possible the people who used the phone only would want to expand their phone portion to the CW portion. It is a possibility. 73, Rich
@@RichRodgersOnline QSL on that, I agree, I have been doing CW for four years since I got my license in 2015. I send at about 17 wpm using a straight key, but is very difficult to find operators sending 18 wpm and less. Most of what I hear is way too fast to head copy. I do understand once I am more proficient I will be able to increase my copy speed and with a side swipe or iambic key I can send faster. It is irritating how many operators use a keyboard because it is easier than learning to head copy.
@@MacksCurley Max Great Job! 17 WPM I remember I was using a straight key. An Iambic Key will help your speed, That helped my speed. I have a friend who likes to go about 30 wpm in his head. I had a friend who used to mobile with a key strapped around his leg. Have you gone to cwops.org/cw-academy/
@@RichRodgersOnline Yes I have seen cwops but you have to send at 25 wpm or faster to join. I listen on websdr around the world at the slow Morse part of the band and occasionally there will be someone sending slower then 25 wpm. I have tried sending at 17wpm but I always get a reply at 20 -25 wpm and when I send QRS they move on. Perseverance is the name of the game.
How do you connect to the keyboard, USB keyboard ok?
I don't think you can use your keyboard direct to the 7300
@@RichRodgersOnline so the keyboard is connected to the computer, QSL?
@@vu3mes Yes, the software works with your computer which the keyboard is plugged into the computer.
TKS, 73
I have not been able to figure out how to use CW Get with my IC 7300. I should be able to simply connect the radio with a USB cable but it does not work unless I turn on the laptop microphone....which does not work well. I don't know if it is this dumb Dell Lattitude that I picked up for amateur use or what.....very frustrating. I have been using software since I started with PCs in the 90s....but most amateur software interfaces are terrible.....not intuitive at all.
Email me look on QRZ you will see my email
@@RichRodgersOnline I don't know your call sign.
😃 at the beginning "Hi, I'm Rich WB5YBZ."
On this software, is it a yearly expense, been off the ham radio for sometime. The technology has over come this old man lol 72. It has come a long way. Tnxs for the video
Paul KQ4CD
Paul, thank you, I am not far behind you. I will be 71 in March. The software (Ham Radio Deluxe) is amazing they update it regularly. It has several digital modes, SSTV, RTTY.... End of 2018 price is $99.99 then just renew once a year $49.99... free customer support as long as you keep renewing.
@@RichRodgersOnline what is the learning curve. Just get in and play. Not to brite with computers. Tnxs for the info. Maybe catch on the frequent, just picked up a ft dx 1200. Dont know what I need to make all this to come together
73 KQ4CDPaul
Paul, not familiar with 1200, hope it has a built in sound card...
I would suggest watching UA-cam ft12000 and Ham Radio Deluxe
That's not true. I own HRD and I have updated it multiple times with only one purchase.
Its only the technical support which you have to pay for each year. If you have access to the internet peer support is excellent.
there's no Ham radio in this vid. It's just CW on a computer, which most people learning Morse Code today are not planning to rely on.
Just showing the program...
@@RichRodgersOnline why is ham radio in the title when there's no ham radio use? It's a misleading title
@@RichRodgersOnline maybe you mean ham radio software
@@TheOneanjel Ham Radio is being used. the title of the software is Ham Radio Deluxe... That is why Ham Radio is in the title. And I am using a Icom 7300 with the software.
@@RichRodgersOnline well I'm looking for ways to transmit Morse code over a ham radio which is an actual device. I wasn't aware of the software
Hi Rich any chance you can help with setting 7300 settings in radio to get this to work? thank you!
Got you email, will respond later
