i’m getting a syrian hamster today :) i set the cage up yesterday: a bin cage with 680 square inches of floor space. anyways your videos have been very helpful in preparation of my new son/daughter. you’re definitely making a positive impact by helping people, especially children, know the proper care for hamsters which are typically neglected/treated poorly so basically keep doing what you do :)
The womb cancer that Victoria is talking about with female hamsters is a very real and scary thing that I went through with my first female hamster I owned :( I saw blood when she went to go pee and I was confused as to if she was having her period and when I googled it, I got no real information. I kept on getting the feeling that something was wrong and I considered taking her to the vet but I had a mother who disapproved of me spending the money on an appointment (always ignore people who think that way). Long story short she passed away while in my hands and I finally saw her cancer underneath her, and I was so traumatized I didn’t get another hamster until seven years later. Not saying this to scare anyone but just saying this so that people are aware that this does happen!! This a real and very very sad thing :(
I also recently just lost my female hamster due to uterine cancer. From the day she got diagnosed by the vet, to the day that she passed away, it only took 3 days, as the blood cannot be stopped by the medication and she keeps bleeding from her below. I was devastated as it all happened so fast. But at least now she is without pain and I will always love her in my heart.❤
I originally wanted a male but ended up with a female and she is very friendly. I’ve never really noticed when she’s in heat either. My boyfriend was thoroughly disgusted when I showed him a picture of a male hamster and their massive package 😂
But that "package" isn't so bad once you fall in love with him. Besides, they usually grow into their b*lls, and he can tuck them in when it's colds, so they're only visibly big when they're hot (in summer), young and/or agiated. I've always found male Syrians to be the sweetest, most tender souls.

I’ve had 2 male hamsters and Oreo was crazy energetic and he was super aggressive, whereas Peanut is really reserved and he has never bitten me even when he was scared. Gender really doesn’t matter it’s the hamsters personality you have to get to know them.

I've had several hamsters before and it actually depends on their personality. My current hamster Mr Crunchy has a very funny personality. He is so lazy, loves to be cuddled, lovessssssss food and attention. Yet everyday he has some weird mood swing lol. One day, he is so happy, the other day he is sitting bored, the next he is mad then gets happy after a bit😂 One day he wants to play, the next day he just sits and doesn't want to do anything. He never bites anyone, nor seems stressed out. He always grooms himself and welcomes me when I'm around but he actually has funny mood swings. Like humans lol.
Honestly,I have a hamster named Jack and me and my sister got confused of what the thing was,it was sticking out and we got a bit worried cause we didn't know if it was a bad thing or a good thing and my dad told us what it is.We weren't sure if he was right so the two of us were guessing if it was his butt or . ... so my sister was scared and said that maybe we should take him to the Vet.I didn't know what it actually was so I agreed with her.But she gave up,I went to tell dad and he said it's not going to harm him.And then I went and looked at Jack and it really looked like his butt and then I decided that it is not a butt it is something.....
I have had two Syrian hamsters so far. My past male was very friendly but lively, he had an amazing personality. I just got a female a couple of weeks ago, she is pretty much tame now and so far has been pretty calm, but we will see if that changes as she grows in confidence 😄
My first hamster was a male (Prince) and he was so sweet. He never bit, and he was kind to every person who came up to him. He would let anyone hold him. But to be honest, I had him when I was 9 I believe and I don’t really remember if he had balls (lol) He could’ve been a girl that whole time I had him. My second hamster was a female (Moxie) and she was shy, but loved it when I held her. It took her a while to get used to me and let me hold her, but once she gave in, she was sweet too. Though she bit my dad twice, guess she didn’t really like him haha

You should start to put your hand in his cage. Even if he ignores it or runs away. Just leave it in one spot, don't make sudden moves and stay there for awhile every evening. Your hamster will get used to your smell and see it as comfortable. That's how I got mine tame.
My first hamster was a winter white male hamster. He was so friendly and sweet and let me touch him a lot, I didn’t even need to tame him. My new robo hamster is the total opposite! She’s very scared, and skiddish, and she only lets me touch and hold her after I started taming her. (I know robos are the tiniest and scared hamster breed and they aren’t very trusting towards humans) so I’m giving her space before I overwhelm her.

As a loving mom of rat boys, I can totally confirm the small rodent - big balls thing. I've been asked if my rats have tumors "down there". After a while, it's so normal for you that you kind of forget other people are not used to the sight. They also love to randomly let their balls hang out of hides or between bars or sit on their butts and thoroughly clean them. 😂
My parents want to get a male hamster, because last time we got a female hamster she was already pregnant, so that's something to look out for, because she had been in a cage with other ham hams 🐹💕
If you got her at a pet store, that can be expected. They get they're hamsters from rodent mills and send off the hamsters when they can't breed anymore.
My last hamster was female black and white Syrian. Her eyes where like beads she was very chatty and always on the moved. Once, she had escaped from her cage. I found in the kitchen there are lots of places to hide but why the kitchen. She didn't run away when I returned to her cage. The only hamster who hasn't bitten me to point of drawing blood. All the other Syrian hamsters I had were make they tend to be more chilled but still active. My current hamster is long hair he is sweet as long as I don't attempt to flip him on his back. He doesn't keep still even when I brush his fur. Both genders are nice and use me as climbing frame or go inside my sleeves.

Hello! It really depends on your country and the vet you choose as well as which course of treatment they would recommend you go with. I recommend having at least a minimum of $100 saved for a vet fund.

My female is a winter white (or mix if it’s true that there are no true winter whites in the US) and she is very friendly and has no smell that I can tell. She is energetic for sure and not easily entertained lol but I wouldn’t trade her for the world. She has had a cyst on her lymph node under her arm and took antibiotics and probiotics and it went away completely. Only health concern we’ve had so far (fingers crossed!)
My female is super calm and sweet, never bites and is super cuddly, but she’s also really picky and I had to get her an 1000 sq in cage before she stopped showing stress

My hamster is female and she is SUPER energetic and is reallyyyy quick, but she is never aggressive and has only bitten once and that was the first time we handled it. She doesn’t bite hard but if she smells food she will test us with her teeth but it doesn’t hurt at all

My male hamster is very calm, while my female hamster is very energetic. Neither are aggressive though, they're both quite tamed. I love them both equally too, both are super adorable and I treat both equally.

It really just depends on your hamsters experience and personality! I believe both can share various goods and bads. Female hamsters are great aswell as males. Although you should not ignore a hamsters gender it can be very important for different situations!! My conclusion is there’s really no right or wrong bad or good gender in the shortest a hamster is still a hamster 🐹

When u said female hamster are normally more energetic and aggressive i was like no so i agree with u it just depends on the hammy its self. My female hamster is so cuddly and loves to lie and sleep before getting up and running around and she has hardly bitten anyone so i wouldn’t say she was aggressive AT ALL!

I 100% agree. I had a female hamster, who was the most grumpy, agressive hamster ever, (then again I was a horrible owner). And now I have a very sweet female hamster. I think a lot also depends on the care too.
I would recommend that if you’re getting a Syrian hamster get a male because in my experience they are more calmer but if you have a cage that’s over 900 square inches you could get a female because they are in my opinion more crazier and always want more. But I think females are easier to tame but it really depends on the hamster itself. With dwarfs any gender is great! This is just my years of experience!💕
Nutmeg seemed to like to cuddle, and she would sleep in the inside pocket of my vest! 💗💖 I never noticed any kind of odor due to her being in heat. She definitely had some reproductive issues at the end. BALLS!!! 🤭🤣 Another excellent video!
I have 8 hamsters! 2 females and 6 males and I LOVE THEM SO MUCH! they all have different personalities but the females are more NAUGHTY i guess ... they are VERY STRONG and brave! the males are more chill and like human interaction more. Also i noticed that the females like to gather food in their cheek pockets first then eat them while the males eat right away.

I had a few male hamsters when I was younger and all of them were pretty aggressive, they´d be biting and stuff. Also for me personally they smelled not so good. Now I got myself a hamster again, this time a female. She is the cutest and most adoreble hamster ever and she also doesn´t smell like the ones I had before.
I'm on my second Syrian hamster. The first was female and not at all tame. She liked to keep herself to herself but she was waaayy more active during all hours of the day whereas my current male Syrian hamster is way calmer. You're right about the balls especially when they need a wee their balls are huge compared to the rest of their body. My hamster is called Bilbo but we call him Billy big balls!

My second hamster was a female (Moxie) and she was shy, but loved it when I held her. It took her a while to get used to me and let me hold her, but once she gave in, she was sweet too. Though she bit my dad twice, guess she didn’t really like him haha

You should start to put your hand in his cage. Even if he ignores it or runs away. Just leave it in one spot, don't make sudden moves and stay there for awhile every evening. Your hamster will get used to your smell and see it as comfortable. That's how I got mine tame.

My first hamster was a winter white male hamster. He was so friendly and sweet and let me touch him a lot, I didn’t even need to tame him. My new robo hamster is the total opposite! She’s very scared, and skiddish, and she only lets me touch and hold her after I started taming her. (I know robos are the tiniest and scared hamster breed and they aren’t very trusting towards humans) so I’m giving her space before I overwhelm her.
Well, I’ve had two male hamsters and I currently have a female Syrian.
-The female hasn’t bitten anyone yet but doesn’t really like attention
-Both of the males I had loved attention but, they bit people

AS i was watching this, i burst into tears because we took my female robo dwarf hamster to the vet today because i noticed bleeding. I immediately called my mom after i got to the part about reproduction issues and we are prescribing her antibiotics. Im praying for her :(((

As a loving mom of rat boys, I can totally confirm the small rodent - big balls thing. I've been asked if my rats have tumors "down there". After a while, it's so normal for you that you kind of forget other people are not used to the sight. They also love to randomly let their balls hang out of hides or between bars or sit on their butts and thoroughly clean them. 😂

My parents want to get a male hamster, because last time we got a female hamster she was already pregnant, so that's something to look out for, because she had been in a cage with other ham hams 🐹💕

If you got her at a pet store, that can be expected. They get they're hamsters from rodent mills and send off the hamsters when they can't breed anymore.

My last hamster was female black and white Syrian. Her eyes where like beads she was very chatty and always on the moved. Once, she had escaped from her cage. I found in the kitchen there are lots of places to hide but why the kitchen. She didn't run away when I returned to her cage. The only hamster who hasn't bitten me to point of drawing blood. All the other Syrian hamsters I had were make they tend to be more chilled but still active. My current hamster is long hair he is sweet as long as I don't attempt to flip him on his back. He doesn't keep still even when I brush his fur. Both genders are nice and use me as climbing frame or go inside my sleeves.

- they're both roborivski dwarfs, they're both about a year old now, and they're both girls. they live in separate cages (bin cages btw)
-Peanut ~ super energetic she's always the first one to wake up and the last one to go back into her burrow. she's a super light sleeper and she loves literally any food or treat i give her.
-Lucy ~ sleeping is her main personality trait😂 she is a master of burrowing! she goes to sleep early and wakes up late! can literally vacuum or sing rlly loud near their cage and she doesn't wake up for anything! however she is super fast when she does run like way faster than peanut! i do hear her on her wheel at night tho as well as peanut

Hello! It really depends on your country and the vet you choose as well as which course of treatment they would recommend you go with. I recommend having at least a minimum of $100 saved for a vet fund.

My female is a winter white (or mix if it’s true that there are no true winter whites in the US) and she is very friendly and has no smell that I can tell. She is energetic for sure and not easily entertained lol but I wouldn’t trade her for the world. She has had a cyst on her lymph node under her arm and took antibiotics and probiotics and it went away completely. Only health concern we’ve had so far (fingers crossed!)

My hamster is female and she is SUPER energetic and is reallyyyy quick, but she is never aggressive and has only bitten once and that was the first time we handled it. She doesn’t bite hard but if she smells food she will test us with her teeth but it doesn’t hurt at all

My male hamster is very calm, while my female hamster is very energetic. Neither are aggressive though, they're both quite tamed. I love them both equally too, both are super adorable and I treat both equally.

I had an energetic female and a very very calm timid one, and then a super energetic male who- is still to this day very energetic. And I also had a super calm sweet male. They’re all different :)
It really just depends on your hamsters experience and personality! I believe both can share various goods and bads. Female hamsters are great aswell as males. Although you should not ignore a hamsters gender it can be very important for different situations!! My conclusion is there’s really no right or wrong bad or good gender in the shortest a hamster is still a hamster 🐹

When u said female hamster are normally more energetic and aggressive i was like no so i agree with u it just depends on the hammy its self. My female hamster is so cuddly and loves to lie and sleep before getting up and running around and she has hardly bitten anyone so i wouldn’t say she was aggressive AT ALL!

I 100% agree. I had a female hamster, who was the most grumpy, agressive hamster ever, (then again I was a horrible owner). And now I have a very sweet female hamster. I think a lot also depends on the care too.
I would recommend that if you’re getting a Syrian hamster get a male because in my experience they are more calmer but if you have a cage that’s over 900 square inches you could get a female because they are in my opinion more crazier and always want more. But I think females are easier to tame but it really depends on the hamster itself. With dwarfs any gender is great! This is just my years of experience!💕

I have 8 hamsters! 2 females and 6 males and I LOVE THEM SO MUCH! they all have different personalities but the females are more NAUGHTY i guess ... they are VERY STRONG and brave! the males are more chill and like human interaction more. Also i noticed that the females like to gather food in their cheek pockets first then eat them while the males eat right away.

I had a few male hamsters when I was younger and all of them were pretty aggressive, they´d be biting and stuff. Also for me personally they smelled not so good. Now I got myself a hamster again, this time a female. She is the cutest and most adoreble hamster ever and she also doesn´t smell like the ones I had before.

I'm on my second Syrian hamster. The first was female and not at all tame. She liked to keep herself to herself but she was waaayy more active during all hours of the day whereas my current male Syrian hamster is way calmer. You're right about the balls especially when they need a wee their balls are huge compared to the rest of their body. My hamster is called Bilbo but we call him Billy big balls!
