I did watch the show recently and kind of inclined towards reading the Crows duology. What do you say? Is the knowledge from the show enough to read the books as I am pretty much aware of everything Kim talked about in the video.

This was so helpful! I recently decided to finally read Six Of Crows Duology but when I brought the book I realised that there was a trilogy that came out before it. So I was freaking out about it, thinking that I needed to read all those books before I could start Six Of Crows. But thanks to you I know this isn’t the case. Thank you so much

Thank you this is such a big help! I’ve been wanting to read Six of Crows forever and picked them up the other day when I went out of town (nearest bookstore to me is a good two hours away). I heard somewhere online that there were references to Shadow and Bone and therefore SaB should be read first, and I was freaking out a little. This video helped clear things up so I’ll be starting Six of Crows asap. Thanks!

i tried reading shadow and bone before six of crows but tbh
honestly trying to read it (at least the first one) feels like a chore
also i recommend watching the first episode of the show before you read the books but especially shadow and bone cause i could not visualize anything that was going on because it wasn’t described and it gives you actors to visualize as the characters : )

The shadow and bone Netflix show was very confusing to me when I tried watching it.
Loved the fantasy elements but it wasn’t really explained to well, or rather, I felt like it wasn’t shown too well, on what was what.
It felt like I had to have read the original book to understand what was going on.
    And I hadn’t then.
I tried reading it sometime afterwards, but couldn’t get through it at the time.
Regardless, it did peek my interest.
But upon hearing the song “Birds of a Feather” by Lilith Max, I found out it was based on six of crows.
And I think I’ll check it out and see what I think.

This is not super relevant/ you sort of find this out in the SOC duology, but Shu Han's Grisha are also persecuted. They conduct experiments (think: human experimentation, quite grusome) on Shu Grisha to figure out why Grisha have their special abilities, how the Shu can benefit from them, how the Shu can fight against foreign Grisha etc. Also, Shu Han is a matrineal monarchy (you can find out more about this in the Nikolai duology, which is the series based 2? months after the events of Crooked Kingdom surrounding Nikolai, Zoya, and Nina).

Hi! I'm new to all of this. I started The Six of Crows and immediately got overwhelmed due to the number of characters. I tried to understand like what everything looked like. I was like "Is this kind of like Victorian interior " but I am completely lost. (I thought grisha meant a sorcerer but used as a servant) I don't know if there is a problem with me or this is a problem for everyone.

I read S&B trilogy first and I’m on Pg 67 on six of crows. I can’t. It’s not that interesting but I heard I have to just pull through maybe up to Pg 100 and it’ll get better. But I have a feeling I’ll be reading this bc my OCD requires I read all books if they’re linked. Ugh

Are the 2 series ayitable for beginners to fantasy?
Would you say that reading shadow and bone series first is better in the sense that it would make more sense when reading the six of crows series?

I would suggest you to watch the series ( cause it won't take much time and you could also visualize the characters interaction while reading the book ) and then start reading "Six of crows" followed by "Crooked Kingdom".

I think shadow and bone is over rated. I came across another book called SCARLETT LOST IN THE FIVE LANDS by Rajendra Sarilla which turned out to be better than shadow and bone. If you are a true fantasy fan, then you should definitely read SCARLETT LOST IN THE FIVE LANDS by Rajendra Sarilla. It has powerful female characters, intimidating villains, dragons, and a magic school too. A complete fantasy package. It also deals with bullying since the titular character Scarlett is constantly bullied for being different. It is the first fantasy book that i came across which has a powerful female lead without needing to have a super powerful boyfriend to save her.
