The Air Filter Chamber needs to be larger to reduce the restriction ...but most importantly ...you NEED some form of Velocity stack on the pipe where the air enters the system ...you will lose flow with just a straight pipe entrance.
also id try to add a chamber like a stock intake has. i dont know how much they help but every car has that little spot hanging off the intake to kill the sound
Chuck the air filter it's a boat. Marine engines usually don't have true air filters only spark arrestors. All he needs is to add some type of spark arrestor to the intake.
Honestly, your fab skills are phenomenal. I agree with a lot of the comments concerning your intake. As an engineer working with fluid dynamics, add a velocity stack (or something similar like a bell mouth) going into your inlet, and one in reverse going into your filter chamber, you want a smooth transition from large to small cavities and vice versa. Also the filter chamber is a little small for that filer element, a good rule of thumb is 1-3” of clearance from the filter to the walls of the chamber.
Man I love living in my province. Over 100k lakes with rivers in and out of each one and you can jump in any one of them without worrying about anything in the water. Heck you can even drink straight out of 99% of them. Great content. Love seeing Taylor so pumped about a project.
Gotta say, i love getting all my stuff done sunday and sitting down at my desk to find an hour long tray video. Almost becoming a sunday evening tradition.
@@ShanusPortellusVI yeah hindsight I should have stuck with my original plan which was to make a big square box with a front plate for access. But I wasn’t sure it would even work for reducing noise. Now that I know I just wanna build a new one. I went out today and swapped back and it’s for sure noticeable in low end power. Top speed it’s like a 2mph difference. But when you punch it it’s super noticeable.
Boat's coming along nice, I can see how much better you like it over the smaller boat. One thing I liked about the smaller boat was the lower "windshield" for lack of better name. Have you thought about cutting the windshield down a bit? Although it is nice being able to tuck down behind it.
Here me out. Replace the windscreen assembly with one made of cage tube. That way it's 1) strong AF, and 2) rounded corners are less dangerous when you're getting thrown around in the cockpit. Then just weld on flat stock to make the Lexan sheet mounting surface.
Tip on led strips, buy good ones and they will stick forever. I use Govee. I've pulled one of their tv strips off of an old tv (hard to get off is an understatement) and put them onto another. That was over a year ago and zero issues. It might as well be vhb it sticks so well. Give them a try yo!
I've been thinking to myself the last few jet boat videos that window is going to get jacked up if you leave it open like that, and sure enough WHAM! lol
One option for more secure attachments vs velco if necessary, is weld a c shaped bracket to the aluminum so you can screw/bolt attachments to that without worrying about pinholing the hull maybe? Like the c shaped speaker boxes you made, but smaller and application specific.
Please bring a dragy out with ya to test the intakes back to back would be super interesting and is a no brainer for testing these things. Used tuning our outboard a ton
I would be ditching the 3" pipe altogether and extending the 5" into the corner. This way, you still have the quietness and the volumetric efficiency needed for the engine .
1. Looks like the vertical support bracket for the right side is bent / buckled from the impact. 2. Check the wide open throttle RPM with each intake. That will tell you what intake is lease restricted.
Theres a ton of gator activity right now because we're at the tail end of mating season and the front end of nesting season. That strip you run is prime nesting area
Hey taylor most if not all marine engines dont have true air filters, only spark arrestors. Chuck the filter and add some type of spark arrestor into the intake.
With the damage on the side of the jet boat, it would be really neat seeing this thing done up with a military riverboat theme. Make the dent in the front look like battle damage, and you gotta do a bikini top. I think that would be sick!
Build a bigger box and run a bigger air filter. And it might help to wrap it in something sound deadening like dynamat. if someone is headed the other direction and you’re both ripping, do you have enough control to avoid each other? It seems like there’s only one line around the bend in some of those tight rivers.
19:30 First off, the lighting turned out freaking Awesome! I do wonder why not weld bolts on from the inside? Now that they are in, before it gets wrapped, you could zap the bolts, so you never need to access the head again. I had the same question with the sticky pads, especially in the engine bay. Why not just cut 1 inch of aluminum rod, bend it so it stands off the body, and weld it on. Then you can zip tie to the rod.
I’m surprised that going out without another boat with you like you do, that you don’t have a 2-way marine radio or CB, unless of course you have cell coverage on the river. With the Garmin you can give someone your position and they can come get you if the boat broke leaving you dead in the water.
Correct and using the same logic if you are dead in the water, but what happens if the recovery boat breaks?, always call for 2 recovery boats otherwise you will have 2 boats dead in the water 🇺🇸
Dude, all the serious jet boaters actively wear auto inflation life jackets for a reason......we want to keep seeing your content. You dont loose man card points keeping from drowning after being knocked unconscious out from the boat.
@@L3Dhelpguide it’s not about “looking dumb” it’s just super uncomfortable to wear one driving a boat. I have an inflatable and a type 3. But I’m just cruising around the river. If I felt my life was at risk. I would absolutely wear one.
yeah, im sure when a 15 yo kiddo comes at you from a side creek on a turboski doing 60 or 70, and t bones you, or bigger boat, you'll be fine, while floating unconscious 😅.
Something tells my your getting into jet boat racing. I like it. You can and need to something new once in a while. Seems like something you’d be good at.
Maybe you could schange the hingepoint of door on the bottom, or just make it removable, make a fixed storage point on the side of the seat maybe. Also I wonder having a holed section in the intake pipe would affect the sound, it should help disperse it a little bit?
When you go back out with the other intake, use your GPS to compare the speed over time on both intakes. Basically use it like your Draggie. This won't be exact, but it will be the closest you can get.
That air filter probably isn’t rated as a spark arrestor. And that would mean it’s actually a crime to run it on the boat. Sometimes a supercharger is considered good enough and you don’t need a spark arrestor.
I like the boats, the smaller one I liked better 🤷♂ I have a question for ya, which do you like better: the low window on the smaller boat or the larger glass one on your bigger boat? I'm looking into getting one but I think I would like the low window more even tho you get wetter with the low, you seem like the right person to ask. New Name George of the Jungle watch out for that tree....
Can do a quick back to back test, with the filter pipe in and out, with and with out the filter in that location, putting the filter in the new end point, just facing back.
I've never owned a boat with an air filter, Is there a reason gor it on the mini? .... Also little tip to get boat to slide right on the trailer is to back trailer into water to completly submerge the carpet on the guides, And then pull out to where you normally set. Then the boat will just slip right onto the trailer without a bunch of RPM... Always what i did with our big boats.
Put some sea deck on those rear seats so the riders have a bit of cushion and aren’t sitting directly on hard hot metal. Thinking your air box may be a little too restrictive.
Id try to figure out a way to get that intake out if that hot engine bay. Fresh air but keep it dry somehow.🤷🏼♂️ Thise bosts seem like an absolute blast.
What do you do when you come across someone going the other way on those tight curves? Or is this section of river one-way? I love driving fast on forest roads, but I always fear someone coming the other way either driving fast like me or not paying enough attention, so I can't go as fast as I would like to.
I bought a civic once that had an interfoooler on it (intercooler with a pod filter on the end.). All the piping was the same size as the throttle body. That thing was a DOG. Super slow. Took the piping off and stuck the pod filter on the throttle body and it came back to life. You’re gonna need either way bigger piping or get rid of it all together

The Air Filter Chamber needs to be larger to reduce the restriction ...but most importantly ...you NEED some form of Velocity stack on the pipe where the air enters the system ...you will lose flow with just a straight pipe entrance.
went down to the comments to say the same thing but ya beat me to it! 😆
This......At least a 6 in plenum and 4 inch flanged input pipe.
also id try to add a chamber like a stock intake has. i dont know how much they help but every car has that little spot hanging off the intake to kill the sound
And, maybe, an air filter element that isn't blocked on the up stream end. That has filter media capping the end.

That new 360 camera is absolutely perfect for the boat videos 👌🏻 a great addition

When the weather turns and he can’t jet boat anymore

Ya I want to see drag racing the most.
Florida jet boating on lil tight rivers has the same vibe as Touge drifting on mountain twisty roads. Just no tire smoke really.
He needs to take it to the Everglades! It’s the same, but basically a lot more roads that are narrower
Gotta say, i love getting all my stuff done sunday and sitting down at my desk to find an hour long tray video. Almost becoming a sunday evening tradition.
Nice guy that maintains the trails. Neat and you are the man.
Looks like that air filter has a solid top. That box is way too close to the sides, and probably restricting airflow.
A bigger box should help.
definitely right. either needs a bigger box, or bigger box and bigger/different filter
100% came here to say this. Went back to rewatch that segment. Need an open top filter for air to pass through.
Agreed. The box is so close to the side of the filter it's restricting the airflow.
Came here for the same thing, way way way too small.
You'd want a minimum of three inches all around the cone, he just built an airbox without volume.

Make the middle window slide in and out like jeep hinges, then have a spot to store it when you're ripping.

since you have both intakes, take them both with you on the water and use an app to measure speed and acceleration.. direct comparison back to back.

I think you need to fab the intercooler above the lid to get air flow and build a sick intake intercooler setup.
That 360 shot of the paddleboat was killer, caught me off guard
Do you have a plan if your boat ever sinks in the glades? Like, how do you call for help, and wtf do you go? (up a tree?)
Wondering if you could have a valve or door to use the restrictive tube or open up to free open air like before ?
Make the front window section removable like Jeep doors. Then stow it attached to bottom of the rear engine cover.
love the content, but if I get a vote , really really want to see the Mote Carlo / Miata content

If you built a chambered airbox a lot like a bandpass speaker box that should give you the desired result without being restrictive
You should make a fixture for your belt grinder that allows you to hold a piece of metal by the center so you get a perfect circle when you grind.
