hmmm ... HMMM. I've flipped from like to dislike back to like. Why? This was as much TWO interviews as one, because of the way Simone turned the table & asked Lex several questions, which seemed to flumux him somewhat, challenging him to answer HONESTLY & deeply -- the very way he does HIS subjects, so to speak. These two related in a personal way that welcomed we the audience into the mix. I can't say I'd search out such company on a regular basis, and prolly might actually avoid it. Hmmm, maybe, just MAYBE, there's a kind of male vs. female dynamic playing out in my psyche. Perhaps I shall ponder and wonder about such a self-discovery. Perhaps. Meanwhile -- VIVE LA DIFFÉRENCE!
She truly is. How can anyone not like her and her content? She speaks so much about her anxieties but the truth is she at least has always come off as unapologetically herself
When someone puts fake grease/dirt on their hands, then wipes it on their forehead to show that they can work on things, the cringe goes to 11. No thanks in listening to anyone who is that cringe/lazy/ignorant.
@Erik Larson That's a truly bizarre thing to trigger that level of hate and rage. I'm guessing there's some envy going on, that you think her success is fake. Being bitter about other people is not the way to help your own life. You'd probably learn something if you watched the interview and were open to actually pay attention.
Great interview! Lex, you’ve been killing it with your lineup - please have (even) more female badasses on your podcast. Simone is *such* a character - powerful creative spirit with a rad sense of humor. Her Trucla project blew my mind when I first saw it years ago, and made me happy to know that rockstar babes like her exist. Given how far she has come as a creative leader (even with the time gap of healing from the brain tumor), it was good to hear her speak out about having had to mold her personality to “camouflage” within a hardcore male-dominated manufacturing design industry. That’s stressful AF and immensely courageous (and frankly, also often fun) to need to be just enough witty, smart, pretty etc self to be accepted and taken seriously, but not too much of those things + self-deprecating, so not to appear threatening or be sexualized. It’s a mad annoying cage to twist oneself into …just to exist in an environment and try to thrive in it. Major kudos to Simone for rocking it! It was such a relief to hear a female leader describe this tightrope as a struggle she had to grow through. It’s important to talk about, so others don’t feel so alone on a similar path (and oh man, it *is* lonely - we make it look easy, but it’s hard to imagine the strength it takes, dear lads). Simone, thanks for being such a bright light, for talking candidly about your process, and sharing your story.
Hi Lex, I could relate completely with what Simone said about her brain tumour and how she coped. I had a schwannoma (acoustic neoromma) removed 18 months ago. I had quite severe symptoms and complications because the tumour started to press on the pons, cerebellum and fourth ventrical, causing paralysis and swallow, speach, and hearing complications. I spent five weeks in hospital and the rehabilitation is still going on. Luckily there was no cognitive damage (although my family might disagree). Thank you for your potcast, I watched most and learned a lot.

Thank you both! The most interesting episode to listen to. For the first time, I saw Lex embarrassed. "Find home in people around you" That was the best! Lov you both!
Thank you Lex, this episode is one of your best podcasts. I happen to be bringing a product to market with a small UA-cam channel too, and it's mind blowing how difficult production is compared to prototyping. Simone hit the nail on the head with this wisdom, and more inventors need to learn just how difficult the road to production is before spending their money on that provisional patent (or even patenting at all). I've learned to pare down to the MVP (minimally viable product) at a maximum level of performance, try to do a soft launch, rely on safe harbor and prior art IP, get feedback from users, navigate the FCC and UL, etc., self-fund, all while having this ultra non-influencer, non-host, non-expert, non-photogenic self that I shamelessly throw out there for videos. Icing on the cake is doing this all from the rust belt brain-drained manufacturing city of Mentor, Ohio. But I push onward, relentlessly.
Simone is incredible. She's the perfect example a role model for both young girls and boys. Not forced gender-based STEM or feel-good politics that don't actually do anything. She is just fun and shows the power of imagination and creativity. This is what we should strive for as teachers and adults trying to inspire the youth. Watching her videos gets you excited to create and to see the possibilities of what you can make by using your hands and mind. I think we need more role models like Simone, Mark Rober and VSauce. Creators who actually make education interesting and palpable to kids who are having endless amounts of entertainment competing for their attention.
I have been a fan of Simone for ages. Looking forward to this one. My wife and I have yetch rings, and i was glad when it immediately replaced my wedding ring, which is pretty much my only prized possession. Thank you lex!

Awesome podcast. You are both awesome people and it’s so fun hearing about your lives. Keep being awesome both of you. 😎
Thank you for introducing me to Simone - what a stunningly creative and intellectual soul.
I'm watching this in total amazement that Lex is interviewing Simone. Great choice Lex....
This girl is incredible. I'm seriously in love with her.
I would cry tears of joy if things ever developed between Lex and her.
Simone! Hope you are well, missing your videos a lot, hope to see you more again.
Perfect rabbit hole. YES!!!!
I collect antique crystal door knobs/ heavier early mechanisms as 😊well. I have an appreciation for the nostalgia & craftsmanship.
I want to preserve these pieces & of coarse build from this & so on.
Great ,Goodluck Raven 😊😊🎉
Simone is such an exceptional person. Love everything she says and does
Lex has the most amazing guests. You never know what you’re going to get but there are always some amazing insights and life stories that get pulled out.
The most recent video I saw from Simone was her build of the stained glass window. It was interesting to watch the progression from the initial plan to the final product that she was MORE satisfied with.
Two amazing people. We're fortunate to have Fridman in the world of podcasts and to be introduced to fascinating people and ideas.
Great interview Lex. Love Simone, especially her collabs with Physics Girl, who is fighting a health battle of her own as well at the moment. We should take care of our smart girls!
lex thank you for all these wonderful interviews. we learn a lot from it
As someone who couldn't care less about robotics, I have to admit this is one of your best "paced" (for the lack of a better word) podcasts, Lex. Didn't get bored for a second. One of the fastest 2 hours in my life. Well done 👏
Simone's my favorite. I'm disappointed I missed this until now. Super glad you got to spend time with her.
I haven’t listened yet but I’m so excited to listen to this. Simone is such a badass.
Your guest profile is amazing. I would never have that I would open my phone and see you and Simone…I love shitty robots and she is an inspiration to so many on so many levels. Man I didn’t know I needed this and am so excited to watch!!!!
What. a. podcast. Another one for the ages. I did not know Simone before this, but I do now. Amazing how much I resonated and how much inspiration I found to go more fearlessly into my projects.
Thank you both! The most interesting episode to listen to. For the first time, I saw Lex embarrassed. "Find home in people around you" That was the best! Lov you both!
Rarely have I ever clicked on a Lex video so fast.
This lady is phenomenal
Simone has been through the wringer. Great to see and hear her thriving. Great interview.
A very fun podcast. Great chemistry
I have been a fan of Simone for ages. Looking forward to this one.
My wife and I have yetch rings, and i was glad when it immediately replaced my wedding ring, which is pretty much my only prized possession.
Thank you lex!
For the phone case have the strings retract into the case and have a way of sensing how retracted they are and translate that to neck position in the app so you can go up and down in octave based on pulling the phone out or retracting it down!
36:40 there’s a great black mirror episode called “Hang the DJ” which explores precisely that concept
I knew that I was going to love listening to this interview as soon as I saw the thumbnail pop up on my screen.
Thank you Lex, and thank you Simone for your contributions to society and putting them out there for the public to enjoy.
I was recently diagnosed with CKD stage 5, and her view about health and listening to your body resonated a lot
This makes me so happy seeing you two have a conversation. Really enjoyed the work of each of you and now together!
Anyone else notice the chemistry between these two?? Thanks Lex for introducing me to Simon, I just bought some of her products.
Lex speaks of loneliness sometimes...
I hope he asked her out for coffee or something afterwards. I definitely picked up a vibe.
Always the best interviews Lex
This was 1 of the most entertaining of Lex's podcasts. I thoroughly enjoyed it and laughed out loud at times. "Big Utensil" bwahahaha!!
Simone was a great guest. I have never been exposed to her until today, she seems like a wonderful person. Another good interview for the books Lex!
Lex, what a fun interview. I think you'd have such a great conversation with Adam Savage (from Mythbusters).. He's got a great maker channel on YT and loves to dig into the philosophical side of creation. Cheers.
Awesome! Love Simone!
Didn't she help get a couple models fired because she didn't like some calendar they were in? What's to like about that?
@@tf5pZ9H5vcAdBp oh
say more ...
@@cfneal1459 she picked a fight with Makita about their yearly calendar with women models on it and the backlash from her fans made Makita stop the calendar completely.
@@tf5pZ9H5vcAdBp thank you.
@@tf5pZ9H5vcAdBp Do you think the world would be a better place with a Makita women's calendar? I don't get it why pick this particular topic at this particular youtube comment
Hells yes!! Simone! 🇸🇪
Om du läser detta Simone hälsa Lex från mig, en random svensk (och jo, jag vet att klippet inte är direktsändning men ändå)!
And to you Lex; keep it up my man, great content, as always! ❤
Cheers from Sweden!
After listening to this podcast, I like her less but respect her more. I believe that's one way of knowing you're dealing with someone profound.
It was wonderful to have an opportunity to see "the real" Simone, it's been precious.
With the push/pull problem. its a very easy solve for the user. I always look at the hinge rather than the handle.
The hinges never lie.
I’m getting “successful first date” vibes from this podcast.
Thank you Simone Giertz, for being who you are. You don't know in how many ways you inspire people.
The discussion of door push/pull conundrum... Donald Norman discusses this quite wonderfully in "The Design of Everyday Things." It's a fantastic book.
36:27 That's the EXACT idea of a Black Mirror episode called "Hand the DJ" (S04E04)!
I haven't even started the episode yet and I just know I'm going to love it! I got so excited when I saw that Simone was the guest - she's a huge inspiration!
You two are just fantastic examples of people, thank you both
If the strings dont have to reverberate then they dont have to actually be strings, made them out of some more rigid metal .
