    100% worth it. Looks and functions are perfect. With most other cars a bbk is twice the price. Now with that said, yea the hidden cost is new tires and wheels/spacers. But at the end of the day I don't regret getting the akebono's at all.

      The crazy thing about these is that most of the BBK systems cost about the same as base model systems if you were replacing stuff and buying brand new from the dealer. Just add a little labor to convert.

      @@EdBwoy I've been noticing this as well, I found that you can purchase remanufactured calipers for a fraction of the price. Also, from what I've heard for 370Zs, if you have the OEM 18" wheels, the Australian 370Z was available with the Akebonos with the 18" wheel, and the 19" was an additional option. I've been considering it.

    First loved the video breakdown always up front. The video comparison with FX 50 and you opened driver door and there may have been some leaves or mud on the floor board. You said this is my work vehicle “mind your business “ 😂 Your accent and everything had me weak. Keep doing what you’re doing Brother. I recently purchased thanks to your videos the last year made 2017 QX 70 Limited Edition. Bought it online up north in Midlothian Illinois sight unseen “no judgement “ 😂 had it shipped to Va Beach, arrived missing back wiper, called dealer salesperson and he sent me one👍IBA light would come on so no cruise control no FCW bought 4 year warranty you would think they would cover a braking safety feature that was engaging and disengaging over a broken speed sensor that was installed improperly within centric hub. At least that’s what Infiniti dealership told me. Not a cheap fix but cheaper than front laser sensor. Anyway bringing old girl back to life love the safety features now that they work. I drive about 300 miles each week so considering the big rotor big caliber upgrade. Have you done a video or know of a blind spot warning mirror detection replacements where turn signal detection is in the mirror and on backside of mirror? Will the QX 50 mirror work? Also no remote start, any suggestions?

    Wow, great video, very well presented and thought out. I've looked at some other videos about bigger brakes and figured for my own car it would be a waste of time as the stock brakes are fine. It's an Infinity G37X, but it's also going on 11 years old, so new braided brake lines would be worth doing if I replace the old lines anyway. Usually hen it needs brakes I do look at aftermarket rotors and pads to see if there's better available as it's worth some improvement. A good time to flush the brake system is when you're doing a brake job anyway but people rarely think of that. And interesting observation on the rear calipers sticking on Nissans, I'll get a look at mine sometime, and maybe lube the sliders just to make sure they're ok.

    I did this upgrade on my 07 M35x. I didn't need it since I ever had an issue with my calipers or pads. I did the install myself so I'm not sure of how much the total cost would've been. I do love the look of the bigger calipers. Since I was replacing the calipers I also upgraded to steel braided brake lines as well. I did notice a better brake response right off the bat. Technically didn't need to do this but I love the look and feel of the bigger calipers.

    Regarding the base rear calipers seizing up... I've had a few leased Altimas, so they were relatively low mileage, probably not enough to kill the calipers. But one thing that did stand out to me was I consistently wore out the rear pads a) before the fronts b) seemingly prematurely for the given mileage. This was with a fairly aggressive driving style, which led me to suspect the rears are somewhat inadequate in terms of heat dissipation, perhaps resulting in more pad consumption. Perhaps overheating could explain the rear calipers seizing prematurely too. As a side note, I have an FX with what I assume are the same or similar calipers, and although the brakes are pretty capable of stopping the car, the mechanical foot-on-pedal force required is pretty high. Akebono seems like a good all around solution.

    • @EdBwoy
      @EdBwoy  2 роки тому +3

      Regarding the Altimas, that is a very interesting observation. Back in the day, some people went with this rule of thumb in brake pad replacement - 3 front pads before you need the rears. The front brakes had approx 3x the power of the rear.
      That assumption worked well enough for the most part. Most modern vehicles with anti-lock brakes use the ABS controller for another function called EBD (Electronic Brake force Distribution). What EBD does is to equalize the braking force between the front and the rear, and basically what that means is that if your car is more heavily loaded it might require more help braking, and especially so in the rear...so the system adds more braking force to the rear.
      In principal, that is the kind of stuff that can wear your rear brakes down faster than the prescribed 3 to 1 ratio. Add to that the fact that the rear pads are smaller, and you can see how you can go through many of them.
      Modern braking systems are interesting to study. Depending on your typical route driven, and your driving style, you could end up wearing down the pads on a single corner faster than the others.

    • @boostlife6370
      @boostlife6370 2 роки тому

      That is because of a mechanism that Infiniti uses to help you enter a turn and not have understeer. That is a setting you can turn off. That's why our rear pads wear out fasters

      What exactly is carbon ceramic? Proper carbon fiber ones would cost you half of the Q60s worth... You mean "carbon" coated ceramic rotors and pads? That's basically a PR stunt... In any case, unless you improved the tires too, all that new hardware is basically useless. Stock brakes surpass the tires friction capacity anyways. There's no real provable increase in performance. At least in stopping power. Only advantage is heat tolerance.

    • @xLeYondx
      @xLeYondx Рік тому +2

      @a n Nah, it's real carbon ceramic rotors. No black coating. Custom rotors 405mm all around, custom calipers, custom carbon fiber brake lines, custom carbon ceramic brake pads from 'Endless'. Setup is 15k+. You think I'd spend all that money on brakes and not have the best wheels and tires? Toyo R888Rs 385 X 30 20 - 405 × 35 20 on custom 3 piece AG Luxury Wheels with a carbon lip and custom painted face with custom titanium black hardware. 40k for the brakes, wheels, and tires. Of course, the brakes work. It's like throwing a ship anchor out your window when you brake. It's 3/4th of the MSRP value, but it's the cost of being 1 of 1. Be happy to shoot you some pics if you'd like evidence.

    Brakes are always based on an compromise, How much brakes do you actually need, vs. bigger brakes will make the cars other perfomance properties worse. Rotor mass are more about braking capacity than brake force. That's also the reason you see huge brakes on track cars and tiny brakes on drag cars. Serious drag cars are doing hard stops from 200+MPH with rotors smaller than used on motorcycles. They can do it because the brakes got long cooling time between each use, so it doesn't matter such an stop make the super tiny rotor glowing red. Hardcore race pads will still brake hard with glowing hot rotors.

    I think a lot of these people are not breaking in their new brake pads good enough. Look up brake pad bedding procedure . U need to do multiple hard stops from various speeds to glaze the new rotor with the brake pad material . DO NOT COME TO A STOP WHEN DOING THIS. If you stop even once to early you’ll create a hot spot on your rotor, throwing the balance off and it’ll warp inevitably. I’ve replaced my pads and rotors twice without bedding them in correctly and they didn’t last long. My third set I did a proper bed in procedure and damn are my brakes powerful now, they grab and bit way more, have less brake fade after multiple highway brakes/stops and it’s been almost 35,000km/ 1-1/2 years which is longer than any of my old brakes so far. They still look new !

    I have a g37s and 370z sport tech. Both have these brakes. Very happy with performance and life of consumables. I've driven g37s and q50s with stardard set up. I could definitely feel the car struggling to bring the car down to a stop during agressive street driving. It's not like it was a safety issue. But I felt like they couldn't keep up with the performance and weight of the vehicle when being hussled. Haven't had the problem with the sport brake setup. I'm doing a brake job now for all 4 rotors pads and hardware with standard oem like (centric rotors, akebono pads) cost me 500.00 in parts and shipping. Got everything from rockauto. Rockauto had cheaper versions, but I wanted oem style and quality. Of course this is the cost for cars that came with this setup. Good info in vid regarding conversions. Ok, finally put them on today. Noticable difference. Not sure if its because of new parts or because they are different from the ones that were installed. The centric rotors look indistinguishable from OEM. They may in fact be the same. The akebono proact ceramic pads are very nice. You don't have to bed them. And my wife says the braking feels more immediate. I would say they have 20 percent more bite. If I were to do again, I would go with OEM hardware kits. The Beckley Arnold ones werent the exact size for the fronts. The back kit pins were either the wrong ones in the box or just wrong design as they were an inch longer than the OEM pins. Overall happy so far. One more thing, the pads still had 40 percent life, after 50k miles of spirited driving (pads were a different version of akebono). But I think that testifies to the overall good design of this system. If it weren't for the shudder, we could have kept going. Sorry for long post

    • @EdBwoy
      @EdBwoy  2 роки тому +2

      It depends. Do your front brake calipers look like the ones in the thumbnail image? If yes, then you do have sport calipers.
      Calling these *"Akebono Brakes"* is actually a misnomer, because Akebono as a brake manufacturer has been making all kinds of brake components, including the non-sport brake calipers.
      Before the Nissan community got to know Akebono for their large aluminum calipers, they were known for making quality brake pads (I think rotors as well) for example in the BMW community.
      I also had a 2002 Infiniti QX4 with Akebono brake pads, so they aren't exactly new to Nissan either.
      What changed over time is that Akebono replaced Brembo as the manufacturer of Nissan sport model brakes on their most popular consumer cars. As a result, what was previously known as *Brembo sport brake option* became the *Akebono sport brake option* which was later popularized as the *Akebono Big Brake Kit* and is now commonly shortened to *Akebono Brakes*
      So, although it isn't technically correct, the Nissan community only considers your brakes to be *"Proper" Akebono Brakes* if they are the big brakes offered by Akebono, as pictured.

    Hey Ed quick question, what’s the difference between oem lug nuts and aftermarket is there a advantages and disadvantages of using aftermarket lug nuts with the caps as to using OEM? My g37 lug nuts are stripped but OEM lug nuts cost way more than aftermarket thanks

    • @EdBwoy
      @EdBwoy  2 роки тому +1

      The big difference is quality control. OEM lug nuts are not usually made by the car companies themselves, but they are approved for use on their vehicles.
      Aftermarket lug nuts come in very many different varieties, so if you have a link to which ones you are looking at, we might be able to get reviews. I usually like lug nuts made by Gorilla Locks.
      Otherwise, you can get improved OEM ones by searching for part number 40224-4HH0A (they don't have caps). Sometimes you find cheap factory take-offs on ebay

    • @drjimjam1112

      Factory lug nuts have a softer outer layer that can become warped and difficult to fit into the correct socket with repeated tire maintenance.

      For an FX45, a lot *should* be similar. Of course, you'll need to replace the oil pan in the JDM engine with an AWD pan.
      Then switch over your accessories as well.

      Yes, the sport calipers can fit on the vehicle itself, but I am not certain whether your stock wheels will fit over them.

      Most Infiniti sport models use the same Akebono calipers. The front rotors are also the same, with the only difference being the rear rotors on some of them.

    The rear caliper seizes because INFINITI/Nissan designed their vehicles to always be active on the rear brakes while driving. They do it to keep the car more straight. LSD and performance brakes fixes that issue.
