    AWESOME, 1st year of the new "455CID STAGE 1". my dad had it brand new. Not only quiet inside, but, fast too. that damn side molding was a pain, after winter car washing. as with prior BUICKS, we would take long east coast road trips. as usual so called muscle cars on those highway trips would get their doors blown. of course the Rivy-GS was carrying a trunk full & family, still kicked ass. somehow, it would be easier on gas on cruise control. that engine was magnificently smooth as the ride. I, was able to drive it @ 10 years old because of all the adjustments provided. no turbos, no superchargers,etc. no replacement for DISPLACEMENT. BUICKS are a shadow of itself now.

    I had one when I was 18. I paid 200 bucks for it. Should have kept it!

    I had a 70 Riviera, it was not my favorite Riviera but I got a real good deal on a one owner Riv, in 1974, and less $ than any of the 69's I looked at, which looked a lot better, but I really wanted a Riviera so I bought it

    i got an original set of T-3 headlights(2 hi, 2 lo), from a '70 Olds. D 88 that would look great in that car.

    How do the back lights work? Are all four of the white lights backup lights? Does the surrounding red part light up?

    I used to own one. It was metal flake gold with white leather. I bought it from the 2nd owner who's aunt bought it brand new in 1970. When I bought it she only had 37,404 original miles. Sadly it was killed when some 90 year old fart flew out of the parking lot of an old folks home and ran into the side of it.

    So what was the diference between the GS and non GS?

    • @califdad4
      @califdad4 7 років тому +1

      bucket seats and maybe a few extras, when it was new, it came with Wildcat/Riviera wheels

      My father had a 70 with buckets and console then bought a 70 that had a bench and fabric. He was under the impression that the parts car was a canadian version and the one with leather buckets was an Amarican .

      mine had brown Brocade interior and a 60-40 split front bench seat, It was bought new at the Buick dealer in Roseville California.
      The people that had it lived about 60 miles away and came back and turned it in, very early 1974 on a new Electra and I bought it then used during the 73-74 oil embargo, for $2400 ( at the time it should have been about $3500) so it was a deal and a half.
      The bucket seats were nice, but most had the Bench seat. and not all had the Riviera wheels, some had hubcaps. Rivieras came with extras, and depending what you wanted to spend, depended on how many extras you got, mine was loaded, though. There were even 2 sizes of fender skirts for this car, the only year Riviera, that ever came with fender skirts and the chrome strip on the side middle was painted the color of the car. Some people removed that paint later as the keys chipped the paint

      GS, in this year, added posi and a performance gear, plus shocks and springs. if you wanted more engine, you got the Stage 1. you could get the GS with buckets and floor shift, or strato-bench with column shift. I have also seen column shift with buckets and a mini console

    Was not impressed with this year of the Riviera. The front end looked too much like the front end of a Skylark and fender skirts. Please! Skirts on a Riviera? Akin to Cadillac, say, putting Cragar mag wheels and a performance handling package on a '72 Sedan de Ville. Totally unnecessary, IMO.

      HiTechOilCo the front grill and headlights, the back tire skirt and the back bumper gives the 70 unique look.
