@chris424cm, The "Scientific Method" was invented by Young Earth Creationists like Newton, Kepler and Copernicus who expected to find Order and Design in Nature because they believed in the Designer.
The real issue isn't that Athiests aren't "Ignoring evidence for God", but that they don't even know what that "Evidence" would even look like.
How would you know that $1 million dollars US exists if you've never seen it with your eyes in person?

Fortunately for us, he isn't representative of English education. It really would be fascinating to get his life story though, to see where and when it was that he veered into Flat Earth ideology, 'cause I really don't know how it is that people end up there.
I know for some it comes from familial pressure - for example our English compatriot and atheist UA-camr Emma Thorne has discussed her upbringing under the influence of her conspiracy theorist father and done videos about the sorts of things she believed before being convinced otherwise. And I also know that once a person has embraced one conspiracy theory, they tend to have to embrace others either to justify the initial belief or because the alternative cannot be justified when holding that initial belief; for instance, most Flat Earthers are going to be Moon Landing Hoaxers too because otherwise they would have to accept that the Earth has been seen from space. And then they need to believe in a global government conspiracy, and then they need to determine a motive, and so it isn't difficult to see the path that they take from "I can see the Isle of Man from Blackpool" to "the sciences are a satanic global conspiracy".
I suspect that though most roads lead to the same mass-conspiracy conclusion, the origins of each conspiracy theorist are different. And I don't think it's difficult to see the urge to believe something fantastical - we do it all of the time when we watch movies. The flaw is in... well, it was exactly what this caller demonstrated repeatedly: confirmation bias; they accept one erroneous belief, then another and another, and they wind up with what they believe is this complex model of the world that's harder to shake than the original idea because it's chock-full of ad hoc rationalisation.
Folding Ideas did a great video on this - it's called "In Search of a Flat Earth". It starts by exploring the Flat Earth belief, but in the later part of the video also explores the other conspiracy theories embraced by that community and how they weave together into this self-justifying monolithic belief.
...but I'm waffling. It just truly would be fascinating to know where and when these beliefs started for people, because I'm not surprised at how they end up where they do, but knowing what started them down that path would be interesting.

it goes both ways. its based on how you perceive the world. for a flat earther they give you evidence and you reject it and vise versa. they both think they already have the truth. that goes same thing to atheism and theism. all of the people have their own criteria of what makes an evidence and their logic and reason is what it comes down to.

    • @Bob-of-Zoid
      @Bob-of-Zoid 8 місяців тому

@@conspiracy1914 No it doesn't go both ways! The truth is the truth, and there is only one reality we all live in, you cannot have your own! Some people perceive the world to be flat and that "THEY" are trying to kill us all, and faking us out with "Science", and yet not one of them can show any evidence for it, just like no one has ever shown any viable evidence for their god!
You are missing one major component: TRUE JUSTIFIED BELIEF people can believe whatever they f they want to and all too often do, and you are right in saying "all of the people have their own criteria of what makes an evidence and their logic and reason is what it comes down to", but it cannot make them right just because, and the ones who are right are right and the ones who are wrong are wrong! Bad standards of evidence are bad and lead to false conclusions! It's worse though with some, like Howard here, because he does have all of the great evidence at his fingertips, but he is rejecting it outright because it doesn't comport with his preferred fantasy! Anyone who understands why he is wrong and that the earth is a sphere, has true justified belief they are right, Howard's belief is not justified, nor even justifiable!
The difference is how people come to truth which dictates who will ultimately have it, and "Both think they have the truth" is a terrible way of saying it, because only one side has good reason to reject the other side, and so it is not an even playing field. IOW: You don't hold a gun to your head because you think it's not loaded, but when You have more than sufficient evidence it really isn't, and even then it's a bad idea, as some moron may try the same based on shit evidence after seeing you do it!
Howard has been doing this for years now, and belongs in a mental institution, it's that bad!

Not to mention why point-to-point radio communication across land always has a range limit, even when involving radio towers and/or mountain-peak stations.
On a flat Earth, this should be impossible: there should be perfect line-of-sight radio communication from any point on the Earth to any other, unobstructed point.
In reality, the curvature of our spherical Earth always puts an ultimate limit on how far radio signals can be transmitted & received before the planetary mass of the Earth itself blocks them (unless we rely on ham radio techniques such as exploiting the sunspot cycle).

For point 2, I think what he said is that the 666 thing was just an internal critique. He doesn't actually believe that's the real value of anything, but he does think (somewhat incorrectly as the hosts explained) that's the number given by round-earthers. He just wanted to show that in that model 6 could also be considered a special number... for some reason?? I'm seriously confused about what he was trying to say, holistically. He used the omnipresence of the number 7 as an argument for god and everything, and the rebuttal was "that's just selection bias, 7 isn't any more special than 6 for example" and... it sounded like he was agreeing?? Like "yea you're right, for example in your model we see 6 a lot here and there"... but then that just proves that 7 isn't special? and his argument was wrong?? Or was it supposed to be a hypocrisy thing, like "O-oh w-well in YOUR model you ALSO have a special number, and it's six, heh!" Except that's insane. You would need a bay of an appropriate size, with a sea cliff on the target side, a good telescope with appropriate power and resolution, and some kind of arrangement for lowering a large, white target (maybe 5 meters X 5 meters) down the cliff face until it appeared to touch the water as observed from the opposite shore, coordinated by a cell phone connection, of course. It would be an easy 10,000 pounds, especially since he says he would allow only half the measurement predicted by earth's curvature. Meeting all these requirements would cost him a lot more than 10,000 pounds of course, so it would never happen.

*The tip of the mast!* (okay, and floating beer cans)
Howard, dear, you need to get out on the water more. Take a sixer, sunblock, and binoculars. Go out to where you cannot see land, enjoy the water and the silence, feed the fish, throw fries to the seagulls, and when that gets boring head back to shore.
On your way in, use the binocs and search the horizon. What's the first thing you see? It's either going to be the top of the marina flagpole or the "penthouse" suite in a luxury beachfront highrise.
