Her needing surgery to appease the voices she heard reminded me of a somewhat similar case famous in my country, Lolo Ferrari (oui je sais.) That woman is famous for having really, really huge breasts because she kept getting breast augmentation surgeries, but in one interview she said "I only feel at peace when my body is a work in progress" (je me sens bien seulement quand mon corps est en chantier). And she's always been a laughing stock, no one ever wondered if maybe she was struggling mentally... It seems like Mioku's mental health was taken into account a bit more, but still, no one around her thought maybe there was something wrong for her to keep getting so many surgeries... It's sad.

We need to be more grateful for how we were born and fight back against society's standards that push us to feel inadequate. I also hope people learn to be more compassionate, because it is so sad to me that people judged and shunned Mioku for her appearance and disability. This is why i really hate the visual position in kpop groups. the member who has this position is always reduced to their look. no matter how talented they are, you just always read comments like "idol xy is so handsome" "idol xy is so pretty" etc. For me personally sometimes I wish i could do surgeries too because I think my life would be much easier and better if i were pretty but on the other hand every surgery is dangerous and can risk your life. even if she was truly ugly before she did this to herself, it would still be heartbreaking that she went to such drastic lengths and put her health at risk to such a degree. honestly her final looks after her reconstructive surgery are a relief even with the facial disability, because it was clear that she was much healthier than when the foreign materials were still in her face. it seems likely that her DIY surgery still may have shortened her life, but i’m glad she was able to return to society and have a second chance, rather than dying alone in the dark with cement in her neck.
it’s also important to note that even approved and common fillers these days migrate. people are lead to believe that fillers dissipate on their own, but only it appears that way because they leave the area they were originally injected into. in reality, people have to get a second set of injections to dissolve fillers that have migrated over time. if people keep injecting fillers without removing them, they don’t get a more sculpted face. instead their whole face puffs up over time with the synthetic material. even modern and common procedures carry risks and have long-term effects. i hope that people keep that in mind when they make decisions about procedures, instead of looking at cases like this and saying “i’m different, i won’t let that happen to me.”
body dysmorphia isn’t a weakness for some and a strength for others. we all have to learn to take care of our health and spirit first, and to respect the humanity of those around us by respecting other traits about them rather than constantly commenting on their appearance.

Could relate to Mioku. In my family, I'm considered the pretty one and is still always praised for it. It took a toll and so in my younger years, I was so obsessed with how I looked. Always had to dress up and appease those around me. Eventually in my later twenties, I started to dress how I wanted to dress. And valued my own style and beauty, instead of getting praise. I'm a lot happier now than back then. And though I still get a comment about how I look by family and friends. It doesn't effect me anymore. Getting help is also the reason.
Mioku just needed help. I just hope she lived the later years of her life, happy. I heard she had a pet dog and she loved him, so much. She genuinely was a good person. And she shouldn't have been judged and bullied so harshly. Society is cruel, especially those with mental health problems and addictions.

And that's fine with me. As soon as I accepted that, I felt a lot better and I honestly don't even concern myself with my appearance these days.
I feel so bad for Mioku, she was so pretty and didn't need any of those surgeries. Even if she didn't think she was as pretty as the younger girls, she was still pretty in her own right for her age. You don't need to look 16 to be beautiful.

I'm fine with the existence of cosmetic surgery especially when it comes to medicine, but it's taken a turn for the worst once these reconstruction procedures become revolved around beauty. What's especially bad is that celebrities and influencers present themselves as the standards of beauty, but aren't honest about all the procedures that got them there. It puts unrealistic standards for kids and pressures them to think of surgery as necessary even though it's never a guarantee - how well you look afterwards depends on how well your body can receive surgery and how expensive the procedure is and how good the surgeon is. I'm all for mental and fitness checks before allowing cosmetic surgeries.

i personally don't there should be anything wrong either if someone undertakes a procedure for appearance. sometimes people really just wished they had a different set of features and there's nothing deeper than that.
however if the reason for wanting to undergo a procedure is more than cosmetic ie an indication of dysphoria, then definitely we have to reconsider since surgery will not remove the cause, only the symptom.
i just feel like there's quite a bit of stigmatisation surrounding cosmetic procedures (we only ever hear about the extreme cases, and understandably so since it's so often an indication of messed up societal values or mental health issues) but i think there's space to allow for people who just wanna get something fixed because they just wanna get it fixed.
sorry if i came across as a little harsh. obviously in an idea world we should all love ourselves but... human being are discontent creatures by nature AND nurture and aesthetic beauty is just one of those things that i don't think we'll ever find peace with, not even in a hypothetical utopia.

If her family had actually known that she had schizophrenia and what it was, they may have been able to help her better. While having the best intentions, they helped to enable her addictions, and were most likely not able to get her the proper medication/treatment for schizophrenia that she needed because they had a misunderstanding of her Illness and how it worked. I’m glad though at the end she was able to get help and turn her life around and live her life freely for a while before she died. There are many people who are never able to get better.

Friendly reminder that beauty is subjective, individual people differ in what they find attractive and what they don't, beauty standards often put an arbitrary pressure on people either to strive to look a certain way or to be attracted to the standard, and both of those just reinforce it. Beauty standards don't help anyone and they seem to hurt everyone in some way, if you're not "beautiful" you'll feel pressure to attain beauty, if you find things attractive that aren't part of the standard you'll be shamed for it, if you're happy or even proud to not fit the standard you'll be shamed for it, and even if you do fit the standard a lot of people seem to only know how to resent you for it or objectify you. Beauty standards are arbitrary and when people put so much value on them it can crush people and their individuality, either it turns us all into a homogeneous smear or it causes rifts between everyone because we're all different but no one is actually allowed to be.
Woof, sorry for the preachy wall of text, I just figure some people could use hearing this.

This is an eye opening story, thanks for sharing. I'm in the process of losing a lot of weight that I gained since COVID hit. I'm a guy and I do care about how I look and how I feel, and I feel like it's good to see this type of thing every now and then to remind myself to maintain a healthy relationship with my appearance. It's so hard to relate to the extreme nature of Mioku's story, yet it's easy to relate to the worth that she put on her appearance. Great upload as always!

she was very beautiful and had a great voice, so seeing both the body dysmorphia, and the voices appearing made it more heartbreaking. I've done studies in mental health in east asia, and it's somewhat still taboo there, so her family not seeing the issues isn't new, and only since the 2010s it's begun to be more open for those stuggles (my main points were Japan so stuff like Menhera, and yandere's have had a huge spot). I'm glad she got her help and could feel better about herself till the end and we only wish she left without pain

I guess I am blessed to have mental fortitude as such a young age.
I got bullied when I was in elementary school. Kids said that my chin is long and it actually carried until now. I still hear people take notice of that feature but I don't mind at all. This never got into me.
I have come to terms that I am absolutely not beautiful but I will unapologetically be just myself. No matter how tempting it may be, I swore that I will never go under the knife.
After all, I never looked at a person's face but more of their heart and mind so I surround myself with people who will also see me beyond my physical appearance 😊

I guess sometimes we should just accept two things
    1. We will never have the perfect face or body that we want. We can of course attempt to keep improving, but its also important to have contentment of what God gave us
    2. We all age. The petals will wilt on everyone. You can try to age gracefully, but one fact of life is physical beauty will inevitably fade. It is the way of nature.

Honestly I know these were all her choice, but the doctors would obviously have know there was something wrong. But rather than getting her the help she needs and warning her of the effects all these procedures would have on her they just kept enabling. I feel like a good surgeon would have at least told her to slow down or notice that some sort of issue with her need to keep getting procedures done.

    • @smb.
      @smb. 2 роки тому +4

How sure are you that they didn’t warn her or give her the run down on the procedure including side effects, which is their job to do so with all procedures (not just intrusive ones). At the end of the day the hospital and doctors do tell them all these things but it’s still the patients decision at the end of the day. Patients have the right to refuse not the doctors refusing the patient. And even when they do, there’s literally another surgeon/hospital next door.
Maybe stop blaming organizations that rlly don’t need to care about you as long as their due diligence and job is done and start putting more accountability on these ppl, their therapist/psychologist (if they have one) and their immediate circle ie family and friends.

Well, fans have complimented only her looks, which became her only personality trait: that she’s pretty. That gave her the message that she should look young and beautiful forever to please her audience, so she decided to get plastic surgery. However, her satisfaction with the result was temporary so when she thought the first procedure wasn’t enough, she started to get more and got addicted to getting work done onto her face. Such a sad story…

It’s so sad that she passed away and that she was insulted wherever she went. But maybe if she didn’t get the plastic surgery, then maybe none of that would’ve happened. But she also wanted to look beautiful which can really cause you to do bad things to yourself. But in this generation. We just want to look beautiful and look attractive when we already are and god made us the way we are. And if you want smoother skin, you can just wash your face and cleanse it like I do. And if people are even trying to tell me that I am ugly and you should get plastic surgery I would refuse because I know how damaging it could be. And what I’ve come to learn is that plastic surgery makes you look Ugly and not getting plastic surgery makes you look more attractive, I’m not trying to say she’s ugly. But she made herself ugly and You can hate me for saying this, her story is sad, but she did it to herself.
