mt baden powel isnt going anywhere, come back in ten years and hike it with your son :)
100% good comment and great idea!
That is such a great idea!
Dude, listen I'm 57. I cancelled cable about four years ago. UA-cam is interesting to me, and I pay for Premium, because I can watch content specifically about *exactly* what I want to know or hear about, and without commercials. You are unique. I watched your whole AT series in real time. I love how real you are willing to get in front the cameras. I always always look forward to your posts. I sub to a shit ton of backpackers and outdoorspeople, but you have a cool thing in your honesty and realness. I hope you really do know that you are a badass and that you're just being humble.
Gotta have bad days to appreciate the good. A bad day on trail is better than a good day at the office!
Very true
One of my favorite parts of your content is the authenticity you bring. You’re real, and show the hike for what it is.
Your comments at 13:18. I found your content and channel to be inspirational when I was recovering from a kidney transplant, and 99.99 percent of your contributions, you're enjoying God's beautiful creation. It helps those of us who probably will not hike the PCT and just maybe sections of the AT to take in the outdoor experience... Thank you for hours editing and double hiking to catch the trip. Your channel is a great blessing to me.
They say “Never give up on a bad day”. Glad you didn’t 👏👏👍
Due to illness I can no longer hike. The Smoky Mountains was our second home. I now live vicariously through all of you hikers during the hiking season. I can only dream that one day the trails will be disability friendly.
You got this… you’re on the hike of a lifetime. Grieving from not being with your family will take a minute to overcome. And you can’t go wrong with cheeseburgers! Get some sleep…
Thank you for the reflection on those who love/loved backpacking and now find ourselves unable to get out there, for whatever reason. Weren’t we lucky though, to have those memories, and have wonderful videos to give us a sense of the outdoors, the sounds of the wind in the trees, crunch of footsteps, bird songs, and trickle of water. Remember, when feeling down, never give up on a bad day.
HI Jason, I'm glad you 'By-passed' that section of the mountain. Your safety is of utmost importance, and a few miles on the road won't hurt a thing. I think you made a very wise decision in what you are doing. It's just not worth getting hurt. Glad to see you back on the trail, and i hope you son had a wonderful birthday party! 🙂 God bless you and happy hiking!
like simple hiking videos, and I am glad you take us along for the ride. just recovering from colon cancer and chemo. over the last weeks I have slowly started recovering stamina. while I am waiting to get back to hiking, your videos are the next best thing. keep trucking Yinzer :)
Skipping a small section no big deal. You do your own hike. I always enjoy these videos.👣🌻
Thank you for that Frozen. My birthday is also May 2nd and my dad just died four days before that. It's been a hard couple of weeks. My husband talked me into not canceling our vacation last week. We did some backpacking and even made it to Trail Days for the first time. The trail is so healing. Thanks again for sharing with us.
You said “I’m not a great content creator”.
BS
Sharing your doubts and vulnerabilities makes you real. That’s exactly why this channel you’ve created is my favorite on all of UA-cam.
No need to be so hard on yourself man. There’s a whole lot of folks cheering you on and we’re grateful that you work hard to share it with us.
Be kind to yourself. You are on a great adventure, and we are all so blessed to have you share it with us. Be present. Not in your head. Your experiences inspired me to share my own. Enjoy every moment!
Being away from family is tough. That hit me really hard atop Mt. Whitney. I'm sure going home for a couple days makes it really hard. On my PCT day 1 vlog, when I started, you can hear my wife say, "See you in September." I remember one time, talking to her, I told her I missed her, and she responded that that was all my choice. It was, but I still missed her and my children. A wife is a very special person when she humors her husband's wanderlust, and the husband is a very lucky man. I remember the day I walked through the frog closure. I was tired and wasn't moving anywhere fast. It seemed everyone near me was the same. Maybe because we went over Baden-Powell the day before. We camped at the campground below the trail split you showed. There were picnic tables, which was nice, but it was in a hollow and a cold night.
Frozen- you’re a good guy that’s done a lot of hiking. This time you feel you made a bad call, it happens. You’ve always held the course so maybe let this one go. On the bright side it’s a mountain that’s always going to be there and perhaps someday you can get back to it and over it!
Dude I’m 60 years old and I love watching you i’m going to do the Appalachian Trail and the PCT back to back when I’m 65 because of you. I’ve never seen you so down. Don’t get down push on! You are the man! I watch hammer too and he said you inspired him also. Rock on. You are the best hiker I’ve seen
Backpacking trips are limited for the foreseeable future as I have a parent waiting on a kidney transplant. Her ability to accept a lifesaving donation depends on my availability as her support person. So nothing too far into the backcountry for a while... Hopefully not years, but in the meantime, I'm one of those living vicariously through you! Your channel showed me how many awesome trails we have right in the Mid-Atlantic area.
Emotionally leaving family can be rough and that first day was tough but watching you eat dinner in front of your tent that first night all I good think of was how blessed you were to be able to do this hike.
You made the best decision for yourself at that time. Remember to give yourself grace. I also can't hike due to health reasons, so I enjoy watching your videos. I no longer live in California, so for me it is wonderful to visit it again through your eyes. Thank you so much for sharing your journey!
You waking up. (I’m okay) I was holding my breath. Of course we support you if you had to go home and miss the family. So natural after your body is so tired. But this is you!!! These hikes are what makes you so strong in the long run for your children. They will pay off with mental toughness and inspiration to your kids some day. It’s hard to be a leader. So happy for you.
Hang in there frozen.
I visited my dad yesterday. He's a hard-working man who has always had a heart for the outdoors. Whether it was fishing, hiking, or hunting, he has always loved being outside. These days, his hips are giving him trouble and his memory is fading. It breaks my heart to see him like this. 💔
Stay positive my friend you made the right choice for yourself at that time
Thanks for the moment of silence. My wife, Oliveoyl and I have been avid hikers for years. I had a heart attack in 2020, did a 750 mile LASH of the PCT in 2021. Since then I've only done about 10 or so day hikes. Due to work and heart failure that I have as well as shortness of breath. It's been hard to do what we used to. I still intend to do more back packing and hopefully at least a long thru hike, definitely multi section hikes. It will take exercise and continue pressing on with hiking. 65 years old, Oliveoyl is also in her 60's. It's our life style. Anyway. Thanks for the inspiration! Hiker town does have electricity. I put those televisions in two of those rooms next to the main house, in 2021
Good thing those frogs know where their protected area is.
😂
I find myself looking forward to each time you will post video of your journey. It means so much to me to listen to you share and take me/us along with you on your great adventure of the PCT. I am going through my own cancer journey currently and part of my self care is to hike. I used to hike all the time. Its nowhere near to doing something like the PCT / backpacking but who knows. Maybe this journey of mine will unfold to creating something meaningful in my own way in hiking and share it with others. I am so in gratitude for you in all you do for yourself and your family and us as a community.
I know the feeling of having road walked and bailed on a section a time or two. Dont beat yourself up. You got a lot of adventure left. And you're an inspiration to alot of people.
You found a great campsite and always remember tomorrow’s a new day 😉
My husband and I always pick someone to follow on the PCT every year, and so glad we found your UA-cam channel. I’ve fought with bad bone on bone arthritis in my knees for the past 10 years, and really felt the only way I could enjoy these trails was through the eyes of others. Right now I’m 3 weeks into my second knee replacement since January, and besides enjoying your journey, I am feeling excited to think I may be able to get out hiking again next year! Good luck on your adventure on the PCT, we are routing for you!
When he turned around and started down the hill, my heart stopped. I thought about all that candy you carry! You certainly handled that very well! 😮
I was worried about you, and I am glad you are doing better. Btw. I am also the one who is lying on the bed, not able to hike for a while. Your videos mean a lot to me! Thank you!
Oooow! That new hoodie is nice!
I appreciate your videos so much! I work in a hospital and I watch your videos on my lunch break. It’s a little escape for me. You’re doing great 💛
Glad you made it through. Stay safe and enjoy the hike.
Glad you're back, and glad you're feeling better. Celebrate your accomplishments, the mountains will always be there. Like someone else said, come back and hike it with your son someday!
26 miles!!! Great day 👍
The first day on any trail you have a bit of civilized grunge still stick to you. Then when you get a little bit of time to yourself, It falls away.
Congratulations for going home your a good father be safe
PS your a good man
When my grandsons hiked the PCT a few years back they had to leave a section due to fires so skipped to WA joined it again there. But smoke from fires became too intense to continue so had to quit the trail. Maybe do those sections later. Dixie (Home made Wanderlust) also had to leave out a section due to trail conditions but returned another year to finish it. What strikes me is the gratitude and reverence for each moment and day we have on the trail. ❤
Really connected with you when you stopped and understood that your hike is also for those who can't hike.
Seeing the ups and downs of the hike really helps me with what i got going on in my life too. Ty.
BP is no joke. I’m a local who hikes here a lot. You will get back here and conquer it. Just wait until the Sierra you will amazed at the majesty of it all! Enjoy your vids! ☮️
Nothing like having a great day after a crappy one on trail. Great views, big day, trail magic, great sunset, nice campsite!
never quit on a bad day ! you can do this . Do it for you and your kids. teach them they can do anything they want to even on bad days. be Blessed
Love you raw honesty, bad days happen. That mountain is not going anywhere, love the idea of you hiking it with your kid in the future. Hike your hike!
That sunset!
Thanks for taking us along with you on your PCT hike. We look forward to your next video. Stay safe. You've got this! Happy Birthday to you!!!
from Nova Scotia, Canada
Keep up the great work. Thank you for the view into a world I don’t have time to venture into right now. 😉
Your channel is one of the only channels I make sure I watch. I've always enjoyed your content. I hope to be able to get out and do some long trails in my future! Keep it up man and keep your head up.
You are doing great! Natural to be down a bit after seeing family then leaving again. Hope you find someone to hike with. That can really help. Stay strong Frozen!!
glad you felt better the next day, living so far from family i know how the sadness can get to you when you leave/ too bad about Baden but those extra hours might have been really rough the way you were feeling and it's a tiny piece of the trail. you'll get good sierra conditions and very little fire closures this year, i think most years people are forced to skip way more miles so it could be worse... so glad i was able to get you back to the trail. you take us all out on the trail when we cant get there for whatever reason and we all appreciate it. hope you found a jack in the box and i wont spoil it but you know im looking forward to seeing how the next week or so went!! /will be thinking of you when i cross over tehachapi friday night
That's a real life video. Take care!
Another great video. Thank you!
Don’t sell yourself short on your content. I watch lot of thru-hikers and you are by far the one I look forward most to when you release new videos. We are here with you along your journey and we are grateful for every step you take toward your goal
good easy on yourself.. Hard not to live in others fear. Keep on hiking, give yourself some grace.
Jet lag is real. It can put a bad ebb on you mentally and physically.
This one made me cry when you took the time to think of others and how your content provides those of us who want to hike these trails but cannot due to health issues a way to be there but not be there with you. I have mad respect for you and the kindness you have always shown in your content. Thank you for always being authentic! Stay safe on the trail!
You are very special. God Bless
Welcome back buddy
You are the best.
Thank you!
I've hiked so many places were I have rerouted for some reason and I keep thinking about that part when the hike is done. But I just tell myself it's done. It's just a reason to come back now.
Leaving your family is never easy! I have always loved how you capture your struggles and/or dealing with hard times. It’s just one reason that I have continued to support you and your channel. You are human and times get hard, just like it would for anyone. It’s very relatable but you have strength to push through! Your channel IS MORE than just hiking, and you do an amazing job!!!
I have been watching your videos for years. I have learned a lot about backpacking from you even though I have never felt fit enough to do more than a couple of miles. I have unfortunately slowed way down in recent years, but I love getting ideas of either new places to visit or getting to see places I know I will never be able to get to. Also, I love how you express yourself and the "trials of the mind," you describe while out on trail as it makes me feel a bit more normal knowing I am not the only one with similar struggles. I will continue rooting for you to succeed along the PCT as I did when you hiked the AT. I love how you are setting out to conquer your dreams and setting a great example for not only your three children but all of us!
Sorry about how you are feeling. That happened to me on a great vacation. For me it was anxiety. I got through it. Glad you did too.
I’m 68, no long hikes anymore. But still love a good march. Living by the NCT, I hike little bits of it when I can. Bad hips and back make pack carry a no no. Watching you relieves my wanderlust anxiety some how. Keep Truckin dude! May trail peace follow you everywhere.
I am disappointed that you yellow blazed. You were such a purist on the AT and I am a bit of a purist myself.
Well hike your own hike I guess. They say if you do the whole trail within a calendar year you thru hiked the trail so maybe at the end you can come back and finish where you left off before the road walk.
Good luck on the rest of your journey. It was awesome that you got back to see the little for thr birthday bash
So glad to see you back out there! Hope the hike goes smooth for you. Loving the footage.
12:00 Frozen/IBTAT “Back on trail man…. Shhh!!”
I have several bloopers where I say that accidentally lol
Love ya bro…. My biggest fear of being tied down by “the system” is when I retire my mind will be ready to thru hike but my body won’t let me.
As someone who has struggled with perfectionism, I think skipping that section can be a good lesson in self acceptance. My therapist encouraged me to do things "the wrong way" intentionally once in a while just to show myself I'm allowed to. Let the purists whine about there being an asterisk or whatever. Its your 2nd thru hike. You already did it the rigid way once, and should feel extra justified about approaching this one more casually. It's a victory lap.
Them bad days just suck no matter how you look at it. Don't beat yourself up too much about the go around. I'm pretty sure that mountain isn't going anywhere for a long time and your footsteps are connected. You even did extra mileage for it. Don't know if you've ever seen Hammerhikes. He is another one of us lousy Pennsylvanians. You passed him while he took a side quest into LA for a few days. He gave you a huge shout out on his episode 21. If you get a chance to check out that video, I'm sure it would absolutely make his day! You have been a huge inspiration to him and others. Makes everything you're doing all the more awesome! You might even catch up to roadrunner soon. She is just a little ahead of you based on video delays. You may have just passed her or are right with her now. Like you, she is going to look at something first before deciding to continue or go around.
Your killing it! Keep it up
Awesome views!
Tried the Ultraventures. Too much rocker on the sole for me. Curious to see how you like the Mtn Racers vs the Terraventure’s. The Traverse currently has my attention. Hike On! Stay safe
The problem on the trail is that you get a lot of conflicting information and it's really hard to know what to trust. My experience was that quite a few exaggerate difficulties as a way to explain taking alternates. Also, rangers most likely have to be "conservative" in their advice to avoid potential complaints from under-prepared hikers. Conditions after a snow fall and/or on really warm days change really fast to the only reliable advice you can get is from someone who just did the section and who isn't too far off your own experience level - and that's hard to come by.
I almost did the road walk past Mt Baden Powell as I was alone at that point and had heard it was dangerous. Luckily 2-3 other hikers came along and we did it together. No problem at all, climbing in snow was of course hard and there were several miles with snow after the summit, but nothing dangerous (from my perspective) at all - even without ice axe or micro spikes. In good weather this time of the year Mt. Baden Powell might be hard but is unlikely to be dangerous for anyone with some experience with hiking on snow.
You got a new hoodie!
C'mon, Frozen, get over it!
I'm not trying to be harsh ... It's just that you have no choice. 🙂
Maybe hit Baden-Powell after you finish the PCT but before you go back?! 🐻🌲
Dude, please don't beat yourself up over making decisions based on safety. Better safe than sorry, right?
🇦🇺
Just found your videos. Enjoy watching!!! was curious what brand of Alpha Direct did you get and what weight. Looks nice and warm 😊
Hey Frozen really been enjoying your videos and have watched you over the years. I was planning to hike the PCT this year had a permit and then in January was diagnosed with throat cancer myself. Finished treatment and believe I’m cancer free, will know for sure when I do a PET SCAN in July. Working myself up to hike the trail next year, but loving your videos. Maybe next year you can follow me. 4Runner
18:07 West Coast Fresh Grounds??? Is that you???
It's okay to be "Off" sometimes!
Do u think you skipped Baden Powell because it was your first day back and u were by yourself? Was wondering why the skip and road walk? Love your channel it's your hike
I explained it all in the video.
Glad you had a nice time with your family. Good call on that dangerous section. Do you think you will return to make it up later?
Someone had a really good idea to wait 10 years and hike it with my son. I really like the idea of that.
@@FrozensAdventures Now that is just perfection. I’ve been with you this long, in the blink of an eye it will be another decade later. I am thinking you may want to add some spots ahead, too, to share with him like JMT. I always wanted to do that section but it is too late. You are walking for many, Jason, as well as yourself! God Bless you and may you be safe, well and ever you.
go back!
First comment :D
Hey If you said this already I apologize but i haven't seen anywhere that you said why you went with a tent and not your hammock system?
It's very impossible to do a hammock in the desert section. Plus I'd rather tent on a long trail to gain that experience.
No trees in the desert.
I use Trekking Treez they're carbon fiber hiking poles that turn into your "trees" and they work absolutely amazing so there's no need to have trees in the dessert you can hang anywhere. The inventor used them on the first 1700 miles of the PCT starting on Mexico boarder with no issues.
hipbone not skull ;-)
Oh well, guess you are entitled to a bad day.
Closing a hiking trail for a frog is wild. If foot traffic hurts them, their days are numbered anyway
I was a bit surprised when you didn’t go over Baden Powell since there are others ahead of you that went up and over. They too said they were going to quit listening to people and comments on Far Out App. However, you do what is best for your mental and physical health. We support you!
You inspire a lot of people but, please don't let You Tube and video pressure wreck your hike.
Finish the PCT then come back to get Mt Baden-Powell at sunrise with your wife?
People always over exaggerate and make things out worse than they are. Take beta research with a grain of salt
Dude, no one is making you do this. Just go back home until you’re ready to do it. Slow down and enjoy the trip!
I don't want to slow down. I'm enjoying myself very much.
