She went up the thing while 6 mos. pregnant and he did a fair percentage of the climb with 2 packs. Damn! That's going to be a tough kid.

Congrats all 3 of you, on a great achievement. Ben Nevis was my 60th b'day present from my kids. Never got to see the views from the top either. Pity. We walked the last 2 hrs in cloud! And now to bed.... finally. Have so enjoyed this series and been wowed by your cinematography, drone footage, editing. Works of art they are.

I can promise you that on a good day, when the sun comes out and there’s still some snow around, the views out to the sea lochs are fantastic. Nevertheless, congrats to all 3 of you.🎉

I carried my 2yr old in a backpack baby carrier on a hot day up Ben Nevis. We ran out of water and my wife and I drank straight from the waterfall. About 4hrs up, 3hrs down. The beer in the pub at the base of the mountain was just the best!

First off, lemme give props (and hoisting some water!) to R for taking on the extra pack to make it to the top since you're walking Llama speed right now (and for good reasons) and also being such a good sport about it.
The view might not be spectacular at that moment but the journey to get there certainly was.

This video was SO MUCH nostalgia for me!! In August 2003 I went to Edinburgh and rented a bicycle. It was an unusually hot summer for Scotland that year. I rode around the country for 10 days, ending up in Ft. William and climbing Ben Nevis. It was 80° and sunny at the bottom but they had told me in town it would be cold at the top so I brought every clothing item I had in my backpack, but I was still freezing at the top! One of the best feelings ever was climbing that iconic little mound in the clouds and fog. I thought I was in great shape, I hiked with my dog all the time at home in Pennsylvania and I had just ridden a bicycle for 10 days..... but the day after Ben Nevis I could literally NOT go down stairs, or even down the little slopes in the Closes when I got back to Edinburgh. My legs were trashed! It took three days before I could go down a set of steps forwards! 🤣
Congrats to you all for doing it!!

Few years back i had to call a chopper for a chap who fell off the zig zags path, he was doing the 3 peaks challenge in 24 hours and nodded off while walking 😅 welcome to Munro bagging, scottish style, type 2 fun 😂

Kinda depressing cos I just realised it's 19 years ago I climbed Ben Nevis. Where does the time go! I went up via the CMD arete rather than the tourist path. I had an expedition sized pack cos I'd spent the previous few days walked across Rannoch moor. It was a hot day in September. Can Mor Dearg must be the steepest mountain in the world! It was hellish getting up on to the ridge but the views from the arete were fantastic. The north face of Ben Nevis is magnificent as are the views across the Mamores and further south. After I summited Ben Nevis I descended down the tourist path and I think I literally crawled down the last thousand feet. I was absolutely exhausted, the hardest thing I've ever done. When I got to the bottom I realised I had the worst sunburn of all time and since I started university a couple of days later I had a bright red face on my student card for the next 4 years! 🤣🤣 Shame you guys didn't get views. Enjoyed your whole trip along the WHW.

I finally had to hang up downhill skiing when I was 6 months pregnant and a kid plowed into the back of me sending me rolling partway down the hill. Well the new larger ski pants weren't fitting so well anymore, so that fall was a good alarm clock. You go, Dixie. I was only going downhill, not climbing up, so many kudos to you.

  • @alangauld6079

I'm really lucky, I've climbed the Ben 3 times and every time I had a view. First was a backpacking trip in 1979 where we camped at the half-way lochan then summited for dawn and had a cloud inversion with all of the high mountains peeking through the layer of cloud. 2nd was on the wedding of Prince Charles and Diana (and a huge street party on the summit! plus Brocken spectres as a bonus) and the third was on the day of Live-Aid. But statistically, your trip was the norm... I do hope you took the side-trip through the upper glen to the Falls of Steall though - a great short hike with the UKs 3rd highest waterfall and a surprise adventure as a reward.

I believe you already know that your videos are very enjoyable for we your fans to watch based on the number of views-why the rest of the viewers fail to hit that “LIKE” button astounds me!! But I’d like to speak to the young man, or young woman that exhibits the most amazing video-editing knack to find the most amusing pleasurable locations to place your “HW~~” logo!!! It’s delightful searching for the logo-when it’s not so obvious given the background or unsuspecting location. BTW-I have learn to trust your judgement Dixie when approaching a cliff”’s edge-especially while carrying someone so precious that is along for the free ride! Always plant your foot on the ground with certainty, please! Marvelous videos dear girl, and a grand appreciate to your husband for his ever-watchful eye on you during this challenging hiking endeavor!

Way to go! Carrying that baby up that mountain was quite the challenge. If you do drive to the AZ Trail a nice little walk in Las Vegas, New Mexico is the Hermit Peak trail. 4 miles up with 4000 feet elevation gain like Ben Nevis. You will most likely get a good view since we don’t have humidity or a lot of rain. May or June the best time, because the snow will be gone and the PM thunderstorms will have not started. If it’s a wetish year there is a spring at the top to refill water bottles.

It looks exactly the same as it did 12 years ago when I was up there. That's why Ben Nevis is called Ben Nevis: never visible!
Unfortunately, on average there are 300 days of fog per year, but I think if you're ever in the area, you should go up there.
If you still have some time, take a look at the north-west of the country.
