While not these models I have 2 Short Wave recievers. I recall my Sainted Grandmother, a WWI refuge, saying (as we listened to her SW, I at age 4) a person needs a World Wide Radio to hear the news from several other countries because people cannot trust the news one's own Government allows to be broadcast. Danm Smart Lady. Best
That "religious station" was non-other than the infamous and recently deceased, "Brother" R.G. Stair (AKA "Brother Scare" ). I'm so getting this radio!!!!!!
Jumped through some Google hoops to reach out to the original Russian designer to get one of these radios. I've always loved the Russian people, even as a cold war kid. Would be super cool to add to the go box !
You may be interested in the CCRANE Skywave. I hear a lot of good about those (especially from Ham Radio Crash Course). I’m a bit confused about station grounding. A video on the subject of grounding would be seriously appreciated. In my specific case (using the Ed Fong DBJ-1), would you/how would you ground the antenna? How do you ground the radio/power supply?
Yeah the CCrane radios are nice. With the Ed Fong antenna I would ground the pole it was connected to. Drive a copper grounding rod into the ground near the antenna and bond the mast to it. It would also be a good idea to attach a ground wire from the radio (one of the mounting screws will do) to this same ground rod. Your power supply should have a 3 pin plug on it for connection to the building AC; one of these pins (usually the round one) should be the "safety" ground running back to the distribution panel and its earth ground. You should have no trouble here unless you mount your radio to the power supply (keep them isolated from each other).
The CCrane skywave isn't all that it's cracked up to be for that price, you're just paying for the name, back in the day CCrane radios was really good, but today not so much. Just get a Tecsun PL-330 for $80, or an Eton Elite Executive for $100-$120, with either receivers you'll be getting just as good if not better for less.
Very fine ! Thanks a lot Concerning Date and time settings, I did what it is wroten in notice but only problem I have done this but, it is impossible to save Date and time settings definitively. I have to set date and time every time I switch on the radio, this is awful. Is there really nothing to do ? 😀
I am curious, did you discover the FM broadcast calender view like old radios from the sixties have? Itś an awesome visual add on that lets you scan the FM (stereo) band and it will update the calender view while at it. All fixed FM Radio channels stored and accessible through the dials to skip back and forth. That alone is nowhere available on small FM Radio handsets. It is activated by clicking on the display while in 87.5 Mhz mode. The tiny telescopic antenna will do just fine indoors and even smaller ones. I use it a lot. Ofcourse I paid less than $100 when it was on a sale at Banggood. Fully activated with 50Khz to 2Ghz range. Mine is even smaller, less thick. Fits in a small camera bag. I do miss the NR DSP Function although it is there, just isn doing anything. Itś a clone, happy with it.
I tried and got nothing I may have to try again, I knw there are many different revisions of this software and I may need to flash it and upgrade it so I will let ya know. My other Malachit radio does AM and FM very well.
Good point on the Firmware version - mine is running 1.10b. To your point in the video, I am afraid to upgrade - although I am pretty computer savvy, I would rather not have a $200 brick.

I can hear it nice and clear
Radio Comms are essential, whether listening in or Tx/Rx
The Morse code you hear upon shutdown is saying 73 which is a ham radio salutation... And mine does cover am and fm broadcast band
Yeah I will have to check it out, honestly I tried to get a local FM and AM station with it and no luck. My other one covers it easy.
The models are all over the place. What are the differences in models?
There is a movie on youtube where a person made a very smal print for correction circuit for the antenne
I'll pick one up.....at your garage sale 😂🤣😂🤣👍
The cw sent at turn off is 73 or Ham for Best Regards.

lol I figured it might be, I have seen many talking about him on the shortwave groups on Facebook. Signal was nice and loud here.
I wish they'd stop airing his recording.
Nice little gadget
Very good video!
Really wanting that CD sign or sticker also, whatever it is. KE8DZW, thank you for sharing.
I got it on amazon its a reproduction, think it was around 18 bucks!

@@Iridium242 Thank you very much for this help, sir!

@@Iridium242 How would you say that this compares performance-wise with CCrane, Tecsun and Sangean multi-band radios?
Man that thing is nice! I've heard that Russia built some good radios.
And if it needs repairs: you can use a tin can, a monkey wrench, and a potato to fix it!
Very fine ! Thanks a lot

Thanks for sharing and that looks like a really nice radio receiver and 282$ are a little bit pricy for me.
I reviewed one a few weeks ago that was in the 120 dollar range and it was pretty cool as well Honestly they are all over in price range
@@Iridium242 where did you get the $120 unit from ?

cool yeah I did find the FM broadcast calendar that is neat.
I like it! I'll have to check it out.
Are you sure it won't receive broadcast AM and FM? I have the same radio and it receives both

Great video. Will you be reviewing the new ATS-25 SI4732 ?
Yeah gonna try soon
Do you have a video showing how to connect this to a computer? Using air spy and just can’t see it on the source screen
Can this do p25 police frequencies
Maybe it's down to whether it's the OG Russian radio or a clone, but the Malahits I've seen do FM and AM as well. Is that a firmware thing?
Does the radio receive the civilian airband ?
yes
It's range is 50khz-2ghz the air band is 108-137 MHz
