I always promise myself that I won't get too emotional watching this film but the part that gets me every single time ( And I have watched this film many times) is when Harry says: "To my big brother, George, the richest man in town!" There is absolutely no chance that this scene can make anyone indifferent. One of the best movies ever. They don't make them like this anymore.
This movie makes me tear up in several waves-when Zuzu comes out and says "not a smidge of temperature!"-when Mary rushes George back down in tears saying "it's a miracle, George, it's a miracle!"-everyone filing in for over a minute for his cause-when everyone begins singing "Hark"-and then yes, "The richest man in town", followed by their beautiful chorus of Auld Lang Syne, and most certainly the iconic clip of the movie about the bell and Clarence's book note. This movie makes me cry tears of joy. How truly special ❤️

Me too pal... me too. Get's me every time. It's such a simple line, but so deep at the same time. George didn't need the money to be rich; he had the respect and friendship of all the people he'd done right by in his life. That carries more value than any piece of silver or gold.
This is NOT the best Christmas special. This is the best film ever. The best story, maybe. You can watch it 2000 times and it never gets less powerful.
As at 15 May 2021, the only person still alive from this scene is the little girl Zuzu (Karolyn Grimes). You can see Lillian Randolph, the legend who voiced Mammy Two-Shoes in Tom and Jerry. Rest in peace, all you legends.

@@megamoviez The movie was made after the Depression ended, Mega Movie. 1946, to be exact. A time when America was about to start the greatest 20 year period in its history. It has all been downhill after that.
Saw the movie for the first time last night. His entire life, he wanted to leave town and travel the world and in the end, the entire town came to support him in the end for all the years he helped them.
I remember a few years ago, my Dad told me this was his favorite movie. So I decided to buy him this for Christmas and got the black and white copy before the colored version came out! I was so happy, much better in black and white. It's now become one of my favorite movies too
I know it's corny, but this film was literally what started turning my life around back in November 2019. I was miserable. I was considering suicide. Thanksgiving was making everything worse. But this movie helped, eventually everything changed.
There was a scene in the script where Clarence(just before he gets his wings) confronts Potter and he takes the miserly man 5 years into the future if he doesn't change his way. In Potter's potential future, he loses his bank due to successful lawsuits brought against him from his bankers and clients. The Bailey Brothers Building and Loans is at the site of his former bank. Next, Clarence take him to the former site where his mansion used to stand, which now another affordable housing unit. Potter demands to know what happened to his home. Clarence mentions that because of the lawsuits against him, he was unable to pay for the reparations and he had to sell his home that was the only source of value he had left after losing his bank. He shows Potter the former overpriced slums where his future self has been living since he lost everything. In that moment he shows compassion for his future self as he suffers a heart attack and expresses his remorse for how he's treated the town. Watching his future self die alone, Potter begs Clarence for a 2nd chance at redemption. He refuses, claiming this is what Potter deserves because his cruelty and miserly nature caught up to him in the end. He doesn't give up and finally Clarence relents. However, he makes Potter promise to keep his word or else his potential future comes true. He makes good on his promise and visits George at his home. Potter returns the $8,000 he took from Uncle Billy and apologizes for his behavior. When George asks what made him change his mind, Potter mentions they both share a good friend in common. That friend is Clarence who receives his wings for helping George and making Potter see the error of his ways.
