  • Rickwood Field was vital to the Negro Southern Leagues and professional baseball in the South.
Known as the Oldest Baseball Park in America, Birmingham's Rickwood opened on Aug. 18, 1910, when the hometown Birmingham Barons beat the visiting Montgomery Climbers.
In the 114 years since, more than 100 members of the National Baseball Hall of Fame have roamed Rickwood's outfield and circled its bases, including such Rickwood legends as Satchel Paige, Willie Mays and Reggie Jackson.
This rich history is highlighted at the Birmingham Negro Southern Museum where we got to sit down with Interim Director, Anthony Williams to learn more in this video presented by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama.
