@@marionlewis741 Maybe look to Wellington or Loveland. There COULD be some affordable options there, but 1 bedrooms are still going to be pretty close to $1000 depending on their size and updating.
Just moved here (short term) and really loving it here. It feels like a good sized town so the population boom isn’t particularly a bad thing but yea it does suck for rent which is high in all the good places now. At least there’s plenty to do and it does feel very safe. I’m impressed.

@@jacobcagle2921 hi, I used to live there when I was kid and let me tell you that it's beautiful. Nice big town. I went back to visit friends and it has changed since when I moved out. You also get a nice view of the mountains. The winter is nice too.
I used to live there from 2003 to 2007. I went to shepardson elementary and bolts jr high. I had the best memories there than all the other places I've been. Better than seattle, Pennsylvania, California Montana and the other places. I currently working in florida but it doesn't beat the beauty of Fort collins

I am a Marine Corps veteran. My family and I are moving to Colorado next year from Alabama. Deciding between lakewood and Fort collins but this video made me want fort collins now

I live in Silicon Valley and have considered retiring in Ft Collins. We love the outdoors (hiking, running, biking ...) and love that it's a College town with high tech presence. It also helps that I can sell my house here and buy 3 or even 4 equivalent houses there. But after one visit, we changed our mind. The weather is horrible. What's the use of great outdoors if you're stuck indoors most of the winter? Yes, there's sun, but that doesn't count when it's 20 degrees outside. Sorry, it's an awesome place - it's safe, people are wonderful, College avenue is awesome with whole foods, old town ... and I absolutely love it. But the weather is absolutely horrible.
Oh man. We will have to agree to disagree haha. But I WOULD agree that it can and DOES get cold here. But yesterday was 55 degrees, sunny in winter and the golf course was full of folks playing... But compared to 75 degrees and sunny in December, I get it haha. Perspective. Thanks for visiting!!

Interesting that you think Fort Collins is cold. Most people would disagree because FoCo actually has very mild winter! 20 F isn’t cold for most people. The average high temperature during winter is around 45 F in FoCo so I would hardly consider this place cold. Sure it gets somewhat cold at night, but very few people go out at night anyway. If you can’t handle 20 degrees, you shouldn’t look anywhere in Colorado. Even the warmest part of Colorado still see temperatures in the teens.
I will move to States probably in next year and I consider all small cities around Denver. So far it looks like Boulder is more expensive and Fort Collins looks like what I need - mountains, not bad weather, vegan restaurants, low crime rate etc. I will probably choose based on the job because I hate commuting. So far I've heard that in states it's pretty normal to commute one hour. For me, a half-hour is too much. Normally I look for a job and then I move as close as possible. In my last job, it took me only 15 minutes by bicycle to get there.
Oh man! Haha, I know that yes, a lot DO commute and that could be 3-60 minutes. I am spoiled. I live in Fort Collins and I only have a 15 minute commute. Soon-to-be welcome to Colorado.
Biggest con has got to be the prices of homes!! It’s absurd. Other than that, pretty much the perfect place to call home... if you can afford one!

The driveways! Such a good call...and love the mention of diversity. Generally speaking, have you found that Fort Collins is welcoming to folks from different backgrounds/ethnicities/religions??
Absolutely. I feel like there are underlying prejudices that are getting challenged through exposure, but that they’re uninformed prejudices that once confronted typically fade away or lessen at least. My family is an example of that. Probably not the most enthused or concerned at the beginning of my relationship 10 years ago, but are so happy and more accepting than ever. I can say that about most of the folks here. Given the chance, they’re open and kind to others.
I have a north-facing driveway. Nothing too bad about that. House should be great for solar and the backyard gets a lot of solar energy for fruits and a garden. A south-facing driveway would give you a house shadow over your backyard. East or west facing driveways can suffer from poor solar opportunities on your roof.
Thanks for your insights, Phil! I guess it would be important to think first, what is important to the homeowner and then decide which direction facing house would be the best for their situation. Good points!
I have a south facing driveway and I love it. After a big storm my neighbors are chipping ice off their driveway for days while mine dries out fast.

Looking to buy land and grow from there, any suggestions (good sun, creaks, water supply, trees)
Definitely depends on how much land, but if water is your focus, I would stay West of I25. You will probably either be going north or south or in the Mountains if you are looking to get a fair amount of Land. Fort Collins doesn't have TOO much available (not to say there isn't any). Looking for bare, vacant land?

I am moving there in June and couldn't be more excited. 31 and starting over, school and all.
I am from Tennessee, but don't really fit in. The difference will be night and day. The lack of crime, the friendliness, the creativeness, the legal weed. Sounds like a town made for me.
The lack of diversity surprised me though.

I’m looking to relocate to Colorado from South Florida. I think you’ve sold me on Fort Collins! I saw someone else here on UA-cam who also lives in Ft. Collins and it looks absolutely beautiful! Right now I’m in the process of looking for jobs. Hopefully I can land one in that area.

I just moved here over the summer of 2020 (unfortunately when everything was on fire and Covid has a lot shut down so I didn’t get to do or see much). It’s a really nice town. I especially like the North side and Old Town. Campus is quite beautiful too. But I find it hard to be in my late 20’s here. There’s lots of young kids running around (duh, college town). It’s been hard to find community in my age range. It seems you either need to be a young college kid straight out of high school or already established in a family and settled. Not much room for early career single adults (there’s night life but it’s definitely amateur hour with sloppy, obnoxious, barely legal/fake ID kids falling all over the streets- it’s quite annoying). Which is unfortunate because I can afford to purchase here but at this point I’m moving my sights back to renting in Denver.
So I’d definitely add the con of the fact that yes, there’s a night life, but it’s confined within a very small section of downtown and you will be surrounded by the loudest, most annoying kids binge drinking alcohol for the first time in their life. Not exactly conducive for meeting someone in your late 20’s/ early 30’s.
For sure! Social, Ace Gillet and a couple of other bars are trying to make in roads with a more mature yet younger crowd. It is an uphill battle against the dollar shots and binge drinking college backbone our community has. But, with the growth and desire of Fort Collins, I’m seeing more folks that match your age and period of life making their way here.

Population growth is actually a pro IF and only IF it's managed. I live here. Yes, the traffic increases, but you can still get around all of Fort Collins on a bike. I don't own a car but I do own a house here. We need to attract more new business. We need to become a startup hub. We need to build commuter rail to airport and servicing the whole Front Range. We need to construct more housing. More high-density housing which is of high quality and nice to live in.
It is definitely a topic of discussion with the council. How to allow growth while maintaining our identity and character. Agreed 100% on startups and jobs! It is probably the #1 most important thing that Fort Collins has to figure out for it to remain a vibrant city now and moving forward to the future. Thank you for your engagement!

@@kingtrance307 Yeah, not every city needs to be growing. Boulder has strict limits on growth. But of course greedy council members push for as much growth as possible. Fort Collins.

I will be honest here. Moving with my mom to Fort Collins as a teenager hit hard being biracial and lower middle class in the mid 00s. I grew up on the east coast around a lot of family and just in the first few years, a lot of behavior ranging from teachers and counselors to employers and coworkers soured my opinions on FoCo. I won't go into my exact experiences and I'm grateful to have met my husband there, but systemic and passive racism felt unavoidable after struggling for 12 years. If someone is sure in who they are despite how others may view them and has a support system, I think Fort Collins has the potential to be great. It just...might be really hard to feel like part of the community without those things.
That is definitely tough to hear! I'm glad you were able to find your husband here and hope that we can grow as a community and allow my kids to have an extremely inclusive childhood, teenager years into adulthood! Thank you for sharing!
Funny, if you'd ever lived overseas or had your internal narrative regarding other people's attitude toward you challenged, your issues would likely miraculously disappear. We see this a lot in teens: without proper support, their anxiety and stress over moving tends to get projected onto others, and when they finally get perspective and life experience, they realize most of their problems are self inflicted or overblown.
Hi! I visited Fort Collins 4 years ago and noticed a lot of individuals starring at my husband and I, this mostly happened at the Breweries. I couldn't tell why they couldn't tell take their eyes off of us! Would you say that even now in 2021 you experience discrimination?

I was just looking up to see what the air quality there is and I was really surprised that it isn't good... is this true? Fort Collins was recently ranked the 17th-worst city in terms of high ozone days, according to a new report from the American Lung Association, bypassing its 2020 placement of 19th-worst.
Hey there! Thanks for the comment. I’ll have to check into that. Is that a running average of a year? Or an individual day? I know we had some TERRIBLE days here with the smoke that came from the Oregon and CA fires. I just looked and this morning the Air Quality is “25” which is “Good” according to the Weather Channel App. But that isn’t something I track or watch too closely, so I’d have to look into it. Thank you!

Are there any small ski areas for kids to learn? Like single chair lift or toe rope?
Probably one of the smaller easier hills and close is Eldora Mountain.
@@LivinginFortCollinsColorado I saw that but I was hoping for something more local and community oriented. My husband grew up with one like that in upstate NY and it may be a deal breaker to have to drive that far to get some practice.

Thanks for the question Arash! Congrats on your potential move to the U.S! With a masters in civil engineering you will be pretty desired most places in the country. That being said, I think I would start with what is most important to you? Lifestyle, close to amenities, being in rural areas etc. Then I would look at places with the highest income potential for your career with affordable housing prices. If you can marry those things together you may find yourself a great place. Your skill set will be welcome almost everywhere with job opportunities!
Stay away from NY and California, Florida is easy going Colorado is good, remember most Americans don’t like Iranians

We've moved to the US about 16 years ago after winning the diversity lottery as well. I'd suggest to get your masters degree evaluated towards US credits and standards. Most universities can point you in the right direction! Just look under "international applicants"! Good luck to you, we've never looked back. We've moved quite a bit in the US and are now looking into CO, esp Ft. Collins for our next adventure 😊
thumbs down, I'm a native, Ft Collins is too close to Communist Boulder. the whole eastern slope is toxic, has been for years, more so with POlis in office. Too many people fighting for 225 and all other roads trying to get to work EVERY DAY, even with C470 who needs it. People from Denver have been moving over to the West slope for years ruining it. The east slope has killed the whole state, no thank you, stay East we of the West Slope don't want you. We actually hope I-70 has mud slides more often ,
Patrick, do you see more upside in Colorado Springs or Ft. Collins in the next 5 years?
Obviously, I have biases. I have family and friends living in CoSprings and have spent a fair amount of time there competing for CSU and watching my wife compete. I don't like CoSprings haha, BUT, they have a more affordable median $ right now at around $380k and could be an attractive option to Fort Collins if someone wants to be in CO. I would say that CoSprings will increase to $440-450k median price quicker than Fort Collins will reach $515-525k. Only because it is easier for Americans moving here to afford those prices. My opinion of course :-)

Now when it comes to white men they don’t get much heat for dating outside their race. In fact most women across the world prefer you guys! Lol. Do you see black men there dating outside their race having problems?

Ummm. I don't think it is TOO big of a deal. My sister married a black man and my brother-in-law on my wife's side (who is black) lives in Denver is dating and will soon marry a white woman. I love that interracial relationships are more and more just a part of life these days. Thank you for your comment.

Interesting that it smells like it before it snows... I'm not sure. I know the SE side (as discussed with a client today) gets the smell when the winds blow NW from Greeley. Thank goodness that doesn't happen often!

Con #4, at least the fact that there are few black people in Fort Collins, is the reason for pro #5.
You claimed that you hope that more people are judged more on their abilities and character rather than their skin color. Yet you state that since there are too many people that look the same (con #4), that it detracts from the overall quality of Fort Collins. Why not base your judgement on the people in Fort Collins on their merits? You yourself can't even follow your own ideals.
Can people of European extraction have a part of the world to themselves? Is it really that bad? Or must every European nation, colony, state, and city be like an oversized international airport? I would like a response to this.
He specifically mentioned his own wife and kids. It’s hard to feel like you’re “othered” amongst a group of people. Is it that hard to understand? Also yes, having greater diversity helps make a town or city be more interesting with much more to do. Fort Collins would greater benefit from having more diversity. Not just in race but in other areas too! It pretty much feels like if you’re not a 19-year-old white sorority or fraternity member, you’re on the outside. Boring
I'm with you on this, hard to know what to say when I have met and worked with people from all over the world and their skin colour was the least interesting part of them, aside from being something that is unique to them. A person's culture and subsequent behaviour is far more important than their racial heritage (though sometimes their culture is informed by their heritage).
I've had about enough of people forcing their petty wants down my throat, especially when they don't align with the established culture, morals, or values. It's all imported bullcrap that has the same goal whether it's radical identitarian politics or radical religious ideologies: they want to fracture our countries to make them easier to conquer.
