  • Welcome to the first part of my Camino journey, "The Camino, My Way 2024 Part 1 - Bury St Edmunds." In this video, I explain why I am starting my pilgrimage from the historic town of Bury St Edmunds, a place with deep spiritual and historical significance. As I embark on this journey, I draw connections between St Edmund, the town's patron saint, and St James, the revered apostle whose remains rest in Santiago de Compostela.
Bury St Edmunds holds a special place in my heart, and in this video, I explore the parallels between the stories of St Edmund, the martyred king of East Anglia, and St James, one of the first apostles to be martyred. Both figures share a legacy of faith, sacrifice, and miracles that resonate with the spirit of the Camino de Santiago. I delve into the rich history of Bury St Edmunds, highlighting the town's role as a pilgrimage site in medieval times and its significance in my own spiritual journey.
Viewers will gain a deeper understanding of why I chose to begin my Camino from Bury St Edmunds and how the stories of these two saints inspire my pilgrimage. This video sets the stage for the adventures and reflections that lie ahead as I make my way towards Santiago de Compostela.
Don't forget to like, comment, and subscribe to follow my Camino journey. Your support means a lot as I walk this path of reflection, faith, and discovery.

James...as a veteran of 3 Caminos and countless youtube videos...this was brilliant! The idea of starting your video in your hometown is amazing. Clearly I must visit Bury St. Edmunds! I started calculating the same here in San Francisco, where I have been singing in the choir at Mission Dolores since 1998...averaging perhaps 40 or so Sunday Masses a year...that is a lot. My prayers go with you on this journey! And since my first Camino was when I was 64 and my last at age 70, I have no doubt you will make it. I will look forward to your next videos! Buen Camino!

Thank you very much, I was starting to think my videos were not being watched!! :) I hope you can see where I was coming from with the comparisons between our own St Edmund, with St James. It felt like a natural progression to do the Camino with the first stamp in my pilgrims passport being from the Cathedral in Bury St Edmunds.
