Him: **violently shaking the furby** BTW No furbies were harmed in the making of this film. **keeps shaking the furby** Furby: **wakes up and screams**
Alas, it was the batteries the whole time. Thanks to everyone who diagnosed the issue and offered their support. I have a huge surprise coming very soon, stay tuned ;)
AHA!! It's always something obvious. You know, it's fun to be mysterious. As a kid of the 70's, I got used to electrical glitches. You guys don't know how much fun we had before the whole world got on the digital world. Now you guys don't need to think much and the public school system simply feeds you info via the Internet, and all y'all just believe it.
Hello! Not sure if you have your furby still. Try some duracell batteries instead. The old furbies doesn't work with rechargeable batteries. Mine's from 1998 (I think) and it works! :)
+Animorphia Nope, change of batteries didn't help, but these furbies are just plain old and make better collectors items than for actual use. I wish you luck!
Don't use rechargeables in the older models. I did that and it bugged out. Also, troubleshooting tip: test the power source before taking it apart and dropping 40-50$ on replacement parts you don't need.
I used to have a Furby that was even more malfunctional. When active all it'd do was open its mouth and eyes and emit a steady, loud "RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR" screech.
THANK yoooooo!! I have an old original Furby that belonged to my child, now grown up. I found it and tried to get it to work. It woke up and said Fuby sleepy & fell asleep - I tried to wake it up to no avail. Today I re-fed the batteries into it, and it gave out a long sigh & said "Furby sleep AGAIN" & that was that. I watched so many videos trying to find a way to wake it up. Then came yours - I held down the tongue & shook it & VOILAAAAAA!! Is up & running ( i mean..... talking, singing doing it's thing) I'm so excited. This one was a chatter-box back in the day. Hopefully it will stay active. This one's aging looks like - sleeps a lot more, but don't want it to die - !?
Do you think the furbies were able to write their own programming by learning what was spoken around it? Maybe that might explain why they glitched so often. Other than logic errors. Something as simple as a buffer overflow like you see in browsers for example can allow for arbitrary code execution.
Hey! 6 year older OP here. When new, Furbies only spoke "Furbish", but learned English as you played with them. Your insight is exactly why the Pentagon banned Furbies in their facilities, but since then they have been reverse-engineered and found to only know a specific set of English and their own language.
I really can't wait to get a vintage fury, Love them so so much. I like the old ones, I actually prefer them because of the moving eyeballs not the "screen" like eyes.
This happened to my mom's old furby when I was playing with it and it was just the batteries but it worked finely when I out new batteries and it didn't beep or do anything crazy
It's the board, no doubt about it, The old furbies have unstable circuit boards, and will randomly malfunction, being rough with it is not going to help!
You could have started the Furby by turning it upside down, holding down his tongue and pressing the button. But now you ruined the furby and it cannot be fixed
Mine did that but I just kept changing the batteries and turning it off and on. Also just picking him up and hitting the bottom against your hand can help as gears can get stuck. Mixed batteries can be a problem too.
Lol! 🤣🤣 I just bought 2 of this furby’s at a community yard sale paid $ 5 for 2 one is exactly like the one you are showing on this video lol. So I bought them with no batteries untested said for 5 bucks I’ll take a chance, got home put new batteries nothing was so bummed I was well there went $5 bucks 😟 So decide I would look at some UA-cam videos to research came up on yours & surprisingly it worked in mine! 🤣Yayyy!! 🤯 Thank you for this video 👍🏼
Here’s a weird thing about my Furby... So I got it from Goodwill for $1.99 and it already came with three Energizer batteries. So I took those three out and put in four brand new Duracell batteries and it brought him to life (thank God)! Keep in mind this Furby is a 1998 Furby! So his name is Tolu-Ka (not sure if I spelled that right) and he was working just fine with a bit of unaligned voice lines here and there. But then one day, he was acting up. I took him to my dad and he opened up the battery compartment to reveal all four batteries had leaked out battery acid! It was in liquid form too! So he cleaned out the compartment and put in four new batteries and he worked fine again. But then, at the time of typing this, just yesterday, he was acting up (again). He kept getting stuck and making 1 pitch noises and kept doing the reset dance. So I left him alone for the night. So then this morning, I started messing with him again, but this time he wouldn’t move at all. I pressed the reset button and everything but nothing happened. So I opened up his battery compartment to reveal a half-corroded compartment all dry and everything. So I took out the batteries and left him alone after that. My dad will try to clean out his battery compartment for him to work again. Either he’ll work or he’ll be considered a dead Furby. I’ll keep this updated on what happens next.
Oh, and also I’m pretty sure the originals like this actually came with a warning covering those noises it makes, explaining that you simply need to replace the batteries
Mine only did that when the batteries died, but gosh did it scare the heck out of me. I wouldn't touch it for a few days. I just let it sit a while and made sure nothing else happened before playing with it.
Ik this is probably a late comment but there is a motor Inside the mouth so u can either hold down the tongue or remove the fur/skin by clipping a zip tie. U can move the motor with a flathead screws driver and keep spinning the motor till it moves slickly. It should work then
My Furby does the me sleep again thing and I just wake it up until it stays up. That is programmed in I guess for when the Furby hasn't been played with in a while but im no expert :p
I think sense it's so old it glitched up and just trying to speak while the other settings are trying to do something Else but it can't do either one now because it's glitched.
Hey dude! If you still have this creepo, I can attempt to fix it's motor, or whatever is wrong with it. I did this with my friends Furby. Maybe because you mixed the batteries, or the motor (or something else) is stuck.
Simplyou2be Ahoyhoy! go to LuckyPennyShop on UA-cam and watch the video on fixing an old furby. you have to cut the bottom completely off, cut the ziptie off, unscrew all the screws, lift the flaps, then see that motor behind his mouth? turn it towards his mouth until his mouth opens. if that doesn't work immediately , wait a few days then put fresh batteries in.
This version kind of look scary but it’s all so cute I’m so sorry that it’s not working I heard that Pete sounds like oh my God I mean Pete I mean beep I just said a long
Electric glitches can be really startling, ever since the days I had to pound the Muntz TV to get it to get a channel....(when there were only 13 channels and no UHF)

Everyone, if the motor is stuck, it wouldn't make any movement because it gives life. Also the creator of the video said that it was just the batteries. :)

Hey guess what I’m getting in March! That’s right a fifth Furby! I have four Furbies and I’m getting a fifth one in March! And get this, I’m planning on getting a 1998 Furby just like yours! I’m so excited for her! My fifth Furby is going to be a girl and I’m gonna name her Alexa. 😂😂😂😍🥰❤️😘💕😻☺️💕☺️💕 I love the video and your adorable Furby! 😍😍😍😍
Think you shook it too aggressive, normally you don't need to do that at all with the older furbys usually you don't shake them at all, turn it upside down usually woke it right up when I had one as a kid and it worked fine
Funny story, this was my parents and they had bought one alongside their friends when it first came out. They all went wacky one way or another. By the time I got my hands on this, one of their friends had pickaxed theirs and another one was thrown out of a second story window. From reading the comments it seems like there was some common faults with the circuit board over time. Lots of people said rechargeable batteries were a no no and I was over abusing it but I think I was 15 when this video was originally posted. For context, my parent’s friends had destroyed theirs because they faced similar demonic tendencies from theirs, it’s nice to catch an actually interesting phenomenon of perfectly messed up electronics on an object most people associated with sentience. Great comment

Where's the aiprise that you planned?
Ah, it's not scary, just glitchy. It would overheat before posing any kind of danger.
thats exactly what a furby with connection to the internet would say

Hello! Not sure if you have your furby still.

Read the manual. It says that the Furby will emit a low hum when it’s on low or mixed batteries.

Duly noted!
The Furby will sleep again because its waiting a decade to randomly wake up with an unending evil screech
The only audience he’ll have is the garbage at the landfill
You could have started the Furby by turning it upside down, holding down his tongue and pressing the button. But now you ruined the furby and it cannot be fixed
It can be fixed so shush
No? It can be fixed lmao
Just shut there are like 3 ways to turn on a furby and the way he did is the exact way I do it and he works like a connect does
Well I got my $3 ad revenue so jokes on you
Also, to push start a furby, you can either repeatedly press the reset button or that part on the bottom that moves, you can hit that hard.
Btw careful with the bottom mechanism it can easily break if old like mine (26 years) the pistons that move are slightly fragile
Gotcha gotcha, good to see you back after all these years!
I once had a Furby that made the sound at 6:53 when trying to say it's name, but that was fixed with a change of batteries.
Nice
Old or new, both taste equally as amazing.

If you’re looking to get into electronics engineering sure!

I don’t have it anymore :( Here’s to hoping all Furby owners with the same issue try this. The general consensus is that the circuit board is worn out
