Im a top driver for both apps for about 8 years. I even was driving for corpoarte in NY. I move from NY to Atlanta and what i'm experience so far the y take more than what they suppose to. They taking 70 percent. I examined the pay and its something called Est. external fees. A trip came in Atlanta for 99 miles and lyft try to pay me 37 dollars i declined that trip faster than flash running. I wonder can i put Est. external fees on my taxes?
Got paid an extra $0.36 from Lyft this last week because Lyft said I didn't make their suppose 70%. Meanwhile today they were offering $5 trips with a $2 surge/bonus already included in that total. F scam. Rides pay $2-$4 in my market. If 70% is true then the rider would be paying about only $5.70 for an $4 ride. But in reality that rider is paying $8+. Seen it at $14 when I got $4.
It seems the CEOs goals are diametrically opposed to improving driver/passenger experience. Therefore, obfuscation to the media/public is a matter of course, while they pursue their real goals= which presumably is to make themselves as rich as possible - drivers and passengers be damned. By the way, evil, self-serving people do not necessarily get karma- many bad people live full, healthy lives.
Can you imagine how fast your brakes will go out if you are stopping to pick up and drop off 10 people in an hour. Forget about if it's even possible time wise, the money wouldn't even pay for gas and brakes, let alone all the other expenses, like feeding the driver food to eat so he can drive :-)

That 70% lie INCLUDES any Ride Challenge bonuses you earn. This week my regular earnings plus Turbo plus Ride Bonuses was only 60% of the fares after the external fees got subtracted, but because I earned $110 in Ride Challenge bonuses that put me over the 70%, so I got no extra from Lyft.
Massachusetts just made Uber and Lyft agree to pay $32.50/hr and now they have to give paid sick time, healthcare stipends, overtime, etc. Uber has to pay $148M and Lyft will pay $27M, and at least $140M will go to the Drivers. This is really good and many states should follow what is going out there is Mass. Now, let's see if Uber and Lyft block drivers out there like they're doing in NY, and soon Minnesota too. Those guys are just asking for themselves to be forcefully resign or go to jail.
This year has gotten even worse, earnings have dropped by 40% compared to last year, and I drive a mini van.the same pattern as last year of work I make the following in 10-12 hours 1. My average gross earning per month is USD 4100 in 2024 2. Last year in 6 months I was at 33,800 gross end of June. This year as of today I am at 24, 166 3. My last year gross was usd 66,888 and this year I am expecting it to be usd 48k gross. 4. This year the earnings have dropped by 40% compared to last year I am sure other drivers who keep a track of their income can see the difference. Clearly we are making 30% of the total average fares
