Look at that minor body damage and a cracked windshield, Total it, here is 6% your cars value back! No no you can't just have someone fix it we already are towing it and any personal possessions in it away to be crushed and not even parted out or sold as an art piece.

It is protection. But not in the "defends you from something happening," sense, but in the "pay this 'protection' money or something bad will happen," sense.

I'm not quite sure what's wrong with the system, but in my experience - they don't pay me back a small fraction of what I paid them. They pay me back full and give a little extra on top of that. Maybe - I have some extra "luck" for fender-benders that always end in total loss. I still hate them, but also have mixed feelings. When all that mattered was money - I'd say it's surprisingly honest business. The problem is - you have to lose a significant amount of mental health fighting with those bastards for everything. You had an accident, reported it. Nothing happens, until you threaten them you will personally kill them for a fourth time. OK, they finally registered the case and send someone to look at the car. But no temporary replacement car for you. In my country they are legally required to cover it, but nah. But 10 calls later, fine, you get quite a nice ride. Then they send you their calculations. Then you threaten you will rape their hamsters again (seriously - I was just threatening them with a lawsuit and quoted some lawyer mumbo-jumbo). Then they send you their new calculations, you check it again, and it turns out you will fix that totalled car and will have some "free" fuel for a while ;) So... They pay. But it's always like drawing blood from the stone. IDK, maybe if some less assertive people deal with them they don't pay the money they are legally obligated to pay. I wouldn't be smarty pants here, but the experts told me that I have to question everything the insurance companies offer. It works, it pays off, but it's such a crazy annoyance. First they ignore you. Then they offer you 20%, then 50%, then 75%, then after a long hard battle - like 110% of let's say of what's more or less fair. Of course - if you don't fight them - you get 20% and probably quite late. And nah, I didn't hire a lawyer for those things. I educated myself from Internet. Read fine prints. Read everything. Do your own calculations. Ask independent insurance experts. Call some insurance lawyers, they can offer you a piece of advise over the phone for free. In some cases they can even take your case for free and get their fee from the lawsuit winning.

My mother used to work for an insurance company. They gave her the most stressful position (she's one of the people called if someone died) without any training, as well as keeping their staff so low that she, and her team, had to each do the work of two or more people. So yeah, insurance doesn't just screw over the people paying for it. My mother starts her new job on Monday.

Good! I detest companies like that. There should be a way of legally (and legally safely) exposing their malpractice, for customers and staff - so no one uses them and they can't recruit anyone again. And keep an eye on the owners if they buy out another company or start a new one. First sign of their shenanigans and it's exposed time again!

REMINDER: CHANNEL UPDATE: As you can imagine, our 15+ year-old channel has a TON of copyright violations on older content, and UA-cam has suggested we get rid of the offending videos as they're negatively affecting us. And while some videos nobody will miss, I've noticed several GOOD videos that I would hate to lose. As such, I'm going through and downloading old videos, editing out the copyright violations where I can (I don't have the original files so it's tricky) and every Thursday for the next little while we'll do a "THROWBACK THURSDAY" where I'll re-upload some of that old, good, copyright free content.

for 30 years I paid for premium insurance. Then I brought my sports car in to have a new engine put in it, I had over 200,000 miles on in, but it still ran great. While parked at the shop, a drunk driver totaled my car. Now the insurance said that because the engine was removed at the time of the accident they were only valuing the car for $1000. Because it was not in working condition. Then they said if I accept the $1000 I will have a salvage title, as I intend to fix the body damage this is not acceptible. So I got no money. I cancelled and went with a lower cost insurance. My insurance agent said you know they are discount insurance and not likely to pay out if you have an accident....I said Like you? My insurance was supposed to be supERIEor, not I'm in good hands. I also had a serious accident when a kid texting drove through a red light and hit me, he had little insurance, so I had to sue my own insurance company. By the time the lawyer got his 1/3 and all the "expert witnesses" got their money, I was left in debt $20,000. Insurance is a scam.

Not necessarily! I grew up in a second world country ( not first world, but not third world either) without cell phones for my first 19 years ( in the 80's and 90's). Let me tell you people found ways to ignore each other back then, too. They buried their noses in paper newspapers, magazines, books, the Bible ( so you couldn't complain about it). My favorite was looking out the window, during public transportation, so I could avoid talking to bored strangers, who talked just for the sake of talking. Extroverts may be dependent on human interaction, introverts are just fine without it, or with minimal interaction. I was a moderate extrovert and I was fine with minimal interaction from strangers, when necessary or when I liked to and with whom I liked. And the family dinners without phones, well, they looked like this: my parents and grandparents glued to the tv, usually on the evening news, my younger sister and I, with dolls, coloring books and pencils ready at the table, ignoring the news and the adults, just like they mostly ignored us. They asked us questions from time to time, or scolded us about something, still glued to the tv. 🤷🏼‍♀️ When we were teens, our noses were buried in fashion magazines at the dinner table, despite my father forbiding it ( he didn't notice we disobeyed because his eyes were glued to the tv. He never drank ,so he was alert all the time, but the tv was addictive). During boring school classes, we played games on papers passed around, made paper planes and paper boats and played with them or simply slept with our heads on the desk. Ah, the memories ! 😁 A quiet evening at home: everybody in the living room, the adults reading books, newspapers, etc, I was knitting something or doing embroidery ( I liked those) and everybody was in their own inner world. It was the same in every place I visited back then. Of course, if anything we thought interesting happened, we paid attention, just like today. The only difference today is that the cell phones/smart phones replaced most of the other means of distraction.

Stay away from huge car insurance companies that dont even have local offices y'all! We have insurance through a national company though there is a local office where mostly the same ppl have been working for years.
We pay more than the ones you see commercials for throughout the year though our deductible is only $200, we get a rental while our vehicle is being fixed, our rate didnt go up afterwards, and they didnt fight us AT ALL on using it. We got a quote, they wrote a check. The job ended up requiring more labor/parts (they couldnt see everything that was broken until they actually started taking the front end a part). Our insurance wrote another check. Super quick and easy. Then they called us a wk or two later to make sure everything went okay and we were satisfied.
Also, THEY call US when their rates/policies change and we're able to get a better deal for the insurance we need. Its been so refreshing.

It has been proven that most, if not all, insurance adjusters get paid commissions or bonuses based on how much they "save" the company. In other word, more they screw you, the more they make.
I had a friend that had a house fire that totally gutted his house. He had "full replacement value" on the content; actual structure value was a set amount. He was very nerdy and kept records on everything he had that was of any value. His records clearly showed that he had $45k in loses. The insurance adjuster couldn't dispute him. The insurance adjuster told him he had to buy all the items and submit the receipts for reimbursements. My friend wasn't happy with this but said he could start with $5k maybe $10k then use the reimbursements to fund future purchases until all was done. The adjuster told him no, they will only do one reimbursement. He was told to get the full amount he had to purchase all 45k submit the receipts Needless to say, my friend didn't have that much, and they wouldn't pay the structure amount until they payed contents. In the end the adjuster made a "compromise." He would would give him $30k lump sum. He was basically screwed out of $15k.

The deductible is.. Deducted.. From their payout. It's not a charge that could be "owed".
Poor people who own a beater - read the rest of my post, might help you.
What deductible does mean is you might end up paying the mechanic entirely yourself for repairs, or to buy a replacement car entirely yourself.
Basically it sets a minimum amount of damage that you always have to pay for, anything beyond that they cover (if none of their other tricks to get out of liability work).
People, mostly poor people who don't have time for this game, don't realize that if you own outright a beater ass car worth

      @Ladycyg 2 роки тому +3

@@craigslist6988 Very well described - here is a real life example. My car is worth ~$1200 (old but runs well). Someone bumped into my front bumper and made a dent (only cosmetic damage). I went to a body shop to get a quote and it came to $1000 (new bumper, new bolts and other misc items, prime, paint, polish, little chocolates on the dashboard - they _had_ to include it all for insurance) - that didn't include the 3 day worth of rental I'd have needed. I'm quite certain the car would have been "totaled" had I accepted their quote.
Instead I've just been driving around with a dent in the bumper. Insurance doesn't need to know. Note - the person who hit me was really kind and left a note - I didn't want to screw them over by having a "totaled" car on their record.
For my own insurance I just have liability for that very reason. I just looked up the calculations again. Doing a $100 deductible (10% of the price of the car) increases my cost by nearly $600 per year. In two years I'll have paid out the price of the car to an insurance company (and they would have KEPT taking that money for years after that, even though if my car was ever totaled I'd have only gotten $1200 - $100 deductible).

I'm rural so I am going to be buried in as little as possible on home land and told my offspring to enjoy that insurance money. Could that legally work?

When I first started driving in the 1970s, insurance was still optional if you owned your vehicle, only mandatory if you had a loan (like it is for boats today). The (obvious) reason insurance became a requirement to register your car was because uninsured motorists caused so much damage . Back then it was even more important than it is now to have very good "uninsured motorist" coverage so your medical bills and vehicle damage were covered by your own insurance. As you note, requiring that all vehicles/drivers have insurance is a logical way to safeguard lives and property...insurance companies' penchant tor denying claims and ever-increasing rates notwithstanding.

Facts is this the law needs to be better some people can't afford to buy another car if their car is total. What needs to happen is if it's not your fault the other insurance and your insurance has to pay you out for your car value is 20k your insurance other insurance pays 10k each so you can buy another car. Not total your car and give you a low ball offer. Both party pays you since it's their drivers fault and your insurance can get their money back from the other insurance that's how it suppose to be. If the fault driver doesn't have insurance the government helps you another car
