    Today’s topic: Al Koran
    For Ayrton Cobb
    Born Edward Charles Doe
    March 4, 1917, East London, UK Died June 12, 1972 (age 55) Chicago
    Ashes scattered by Billy McComb in places Koran loved
    He worked for ENSA during World War II
    The Entertainments National Service Association was established in 1939 by Basil Dean and Leslie Henson to provide entertainment for British armed forces personnel during World War II.
    1945
    Became the youngest member to be awarded the London Society of Magicians Gold Medal.
    The stage name “Al Koran” and made magic a full-time job.
    1969
    Emigrated to the United States. First to Cleveland, Ohio, and then later settling in Chicago.

    • The Jonah Card (1948)
    • Ring Flite (1968)
    • The Koran Deck aka Miracle Pack aka Five Star Prediction aka Future Foretold aka
    Premonition Deck and Spyder Deck
    Marketed in the 1950s, which was a direct copy of Audley Walsh’s Magician’s Dream which appeared in The Jinx (No. 43, dated April 1938 on page 298) - face up stop card, prediction in an envelope held by the spectator

    Hi David. I think Al was born in 1914 and therefore passed away, aged 58 - albeit again, that was far too soon. Al was successful with mixing Magic with Mentalism, his methods being very creative but ultimately delivering very direct effects. Similar to Maurice Fogel, Al was born (and lived) in East London. As that is my place of birth also, maybe that adds to my admiration for both of these superb Mentalism performers!

    Koran’s Medallion is such a great effect. It’s been a mainstay in my stage work for decades.

    Great Video as usual David! It's awesome that you call attention to many in past and recent Magic History that are not always given their Due. I actually use and perform a number of Routines credited to Mr. Koran, but until now I knew little about Him! Cheers!

      Many Koran effects are in conventional magicians and mentalists' current working repertoire. He was one of our greats

    great stuff David , I also think he was on ED Sullivan as the act before The Beatles first appearance which I guess gets overlooked ?
