I love the hand drawn style so much. It gives the sense of 3D even though it's 2D.
Sonic Overtime would be cool if a Sonic 1-3 were remade as a fan game in this art style

i don't know why everytime people see this they bring up the level design as if it's an actual level
i always saw this more as a playground for sonic's physics and abilities

Saw this game a few times, including when it was pencil sketches. Such a beautifully animated game, but Sonic's movement and physics looked sluggish. Happy to see those aspects improved and sped up!
I didn't see any particularly interesting level design, but the aesthetic is insanely well done, and the physics look very polished. The game looks slower and more zoomed out than normal Classic games, which I actually appreciate; the extremely limited time to react to what's coming keeps me from appreciating Classic Sonic's gameplay. I honestly think this game could pursue its own identity and put its focus on Sonic's moveset rather than momentum physics (or focus on both), and it would rival some indie games that have an actual price tag.
It may not be what they're going for, but this project gives me extreme Metroidvania vibes. And I absolutely think it could work; upgrades and backtracking were already a core part of SA1 and SA2.

@@princenobody5595 I do know that. I guess my wording may have been ambiguous, but I was not trying to say that they should put a price tag on it. I was saying that this fan game looks as good as some games that have a price tag.

Sonic CD intro will always be peak. I've always thought they should make a game that used sprite work like this! The best part of this art style is that it isn't too busy and its easy to tell where enemies and obstacles are.

Beautiful art style. This is exactly what I want a next-generation 2D Sonic game to be. So much potential here with the smooth animation style. You could present anything and go literally almost anywhere without being held back by pixel art or bad 3D. Great work.
Missed opportunity for "anniversary mode" in Sonic Origins looking like this.
God this is amazing. What I think is the best part is seeing the aerial spindash. Giving Sonic that move opens up so many possibilities, it's even better than the homing attack since you actually have to aim to use it. It's great for fighting enemies off the ground and can make for some unique platforming moments.
Good overtime video, really the creator of this game seemed that his design is very good, so this fangame looks more animated by tripplejaz and the rest ^^

I wish someone would merge all these games into a single SAGE Sonic Fan Game MegaMix. This way, instead of just playing 1-4 levels and the game just ends, you can have a patchwork experience that satisfyingly concludes and feels like a full game.

recently I was imagining what should sonic mania 2 be like and somehow this is literally 1 for 1 what i imagined. Its like the game dev read my mind.

Looks awesome, but I feel the camera is way too close, you can't see a lot where you're going (issue with the first Sonics too) and I feel it was done to showcase the beautiful art in the Sonic sprite, I get it. And the level... I fell I would be lost if I was playing it, no clear indication on where to go (tbh if going anywhere takes you to the goal, then don't mind me), just constructive criticism, hopefully it helps, the art is extremely good, the air-spin-dash thing is also a great idea, overall looks super cool, hopefully it has lots of success!! Kudos to y'all devs!!

I think the game looks so great and the effort put into this must’ve been massive, but I have some issues that hopefully the dev will see:
The stage looks pretty samey, which might make it hard for players to identify where they are in the map.
Level design seems disjointed, which followed by the stage makes it very iffy.
I do very much love the animation and art, its all great, and I think this new mechanic is interesting, but I need to see more.

If I’m not mistaken the original sonic mania team not only wanted to keep the pixel art from mania but also wanted to make it something akin to this kind of handrawn art

Sonic is a bit hard to see I like to see him bigger so I can see his beautiful design
