I remember when I went to Sam’s Club on September 9th 1999 to get the newest Final Fantasy, they had a Dreamcast under a plastic milk carton zip tied to the shelf running a Sonic Adventure demo. I would stand in line and play the first level over and over again. I remember looking at the grass and honestly believing games would never look better than that. Christmas morning 1999 was lit.
Before the Dreamcast was released, the local cinema had 2 arcade-style Dreamcast machines in the foyer. Me and my brothers would visit especially to play Sonic Adventure - by the time we got our own console, I was a pro at the first level 😂 Great memories!
It was a lot like Super Mario 64 in that I could not believe a game was capable of something like Emerald Coast. Also, Sonic was as much a comic and cartoon series as a video game because Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog and Archie, so it was amazing that they finally merged the games with a full shonen anime plot. People may criticize the alternate gameplay, but when you're a kid and see 6 playable characters, that really leaves a good first impression.
Lol when I played Generations and they basically remade this scene I was tripping as a kid at how cool it was. I never realized how much I loved that game until now.

This game isn't amazing by today's standards, and SM64 definitely aged much better (except for the camera, SA has a much better camera), but people really exaggerate how bad this game has aged. It's still really solid even if it's not that amazing anymore. Can't say the same for SA2 though to be honest. Sonic/Shadow's stages are still great but Tails/Eggman have always been awful, while Knuckles/Rouge are a massive downgrade from Knuckles' in SA1.
It's a REALLY fun stage but in CITY design wise it's probably the worst city in the world. Here we have streets that form loop-da-loops, The street just ends on a ramp thaat go's to the top of buildings, The street it's self starts on the exit of a building, the streets curve on to the side of buildings. It's over all really strange and would probably be impossible to get through without dying or being horribly injured (in real life)
Tiernan Brennan It wouldn't probably work the way you think. The highways indeed look complicated, however, if Sonic can maneuver so smoothly through this, I'm sure many people can.
Tiernan Brennan That is true. However, I think it would be interesting if a city like Speed Highway was real. Artificial gravity would help with moving around the city, of course.
Has nobody heard of how many deaths happened on this highway? It was fucking brutal cars falling 100 ft to the ground, the weight of trucks making the elevated parts collapse killing hundreds, 12 buildings fell, on ramps making vehicles fly into 4 of the 12 buildings I talked about earlier, blood everywhere... I die inside just thinking about it....
That at Dawn section at the end of this level was one of my favorite parts of this game as a kid. I used to play this level just to chill there for some minutes while listening to its song. I think I liked it because it felt like a real place with many of those hidden boxes, so exploring it was super fun. Most sonic levels were kinda linear, so that part definetely stood out to me as a kid. It is a shame that the speed highway from generations does not have a at Dawn section.
I want SA to be recreated with the action levels fully explorable from Windy Valley to Jungle Egg Base. The low res backgrounds seem like they have none story stuff that'd be happening for you to do.
I love the subtle story it tells. Most of the Sonic Adventure levels have a vacation theme going on (e.g. snowboarding on Ice Cap, ziplining in Red Mountain, Emerald Coast and Twinkle Park period), but this is the most unique take on it. First section is like avoiding rush hour traffic, second part is literally dropping into the hotel, and the last part is leaving the hotel on a bright sunny morning to enjoy the sights.
It technically does it just doesn't have the music change but it does have the same spirit multiple paths it's on the ground for the most part and there's cars you dodge so yea. And the level ends with the sun rising so yea
To this day, the fullspeed running animation of this game still is my favourite. I mean, this game didn't have boost, but it still have an insane sense of speed.
Love Speed Highway and it's theme. This level pours a lot of life into not just Sonic's world, but speed. Combined with the speed sneakers' theme, it sends chills down my cheeks because of how exhilarating and fast the experience is.
I feel absolutely so sorry for anyone, Sonic The Hedgehog fan or not who never got to experience Sonic Adventure, Sonic Adventure DX, Sonic Adventure 2, Sonic Adventure 2 Battle, Sonic Heroes and or Shadow The Hedgehog 2005 in their childhood.
