Very helpful. I recently completed a story. My first. I don’t care about trying to sell it. I just want to have a physical copy and this answered all the questions I had.
Hi, Thanks so much, I followed all your instructions and thanks to you I will receive 5 copies of my life work, poems that I have been writing since 1986. My wife will be very happy
You are amazing! You made this incredibly easy to follow, and I am terrible with stuff like this. This video answered every question and concern I had. Thank you so, so much
This instructional video was excellent. Thank you for making it. The way it was done step-by-step made forming and purchasing my book's proof copy so easy, not to mention made me confident in the process.
This was extremely helpful, thank you so much. I didn't realize I could order a proof copy and was freaking out trying to make sure I figured everything out just right before uploading because I thought the only option woold be to go live or trash it 😆
cool. I have edited (and added to) a book on reality creation, and I have translated it into Japanese, I have 5 adult children living in Japan, so I want to give it as a gift. I didnt need very many copies so this is awesome.:)
Nice tutorial! Your video was the top video in a search on how to print your books before book release. I'm looking to purchase a few cases of print books (without the 'Not for Resale' banner) for book releases i have this year, but was considering not having them for sale as print on Amazon until a release date (I'm 16 books published so far, so this isn't my first rodeo, but it's the first time I've wanted to print a supply of books before the release for a book release party. I'm suspecting the new 'Archive' option would work for this - Print your books, Archive it, have your book release, and unarchive it. Or, since I'm not a top-demand author, just release it like I've done in the past, and print them, and have the party. LOL. Answered my own question I guess.
Very good information. How do you make sure your book is not live when you only want a proof / work in progress. Then if proof is okay, how do you go live, publish the uploaded files?
You can only order a proof copy when your book is in DRAFT mode, so theres no danger of your book being LIVE when you order a proof copy. When you are ready to go LIVE, just press Publish ☺
I just finally did this process. At first the cover pdf a designer made for me was too large, then too small then it fit. He had to do some research to find out what the issue was as we had the correct dimensions and it was within the permitted pixel number and file size. I think it was something to do with setting the image size in inches in the pdf save option. Also, I'm in the UK and I ordered a proof copy from UK Amazon and even though I have Prime and don't pay for deliveries, I still had to pay shipping for a proof copy of my book.
@@huma7366 It was £2.99 if I ordered one copy as I did for the first print to see if it came out well. But then when I ordered 5 copies it was £4.99 for shipping all 5.
I published a printed book on KDP and discovered after receiving the physical proof that I wanted to change the trim size down from 6x9 to 5x7. They warned that you cannot change the trim size after publishing. I thought I could just "Unpublish" and then go in and change the settings, but it is not letting me. Do I basically have to start over again with this? How does that affect my ISBN #, and the auto-sync with my digital version of the book? Should I start a new book and then delete the old one, and cross my fingers that everything else about the book does NOT change? Thank you for your help! I have not found any source of info online on how to change trim size AFTER publishing!
Thanks for this video. My goal is to get physical copies of a book and sell them to people in person, not online. It seems like this method does that but the "not for resale" label seems to suggest Amazon does not want me to sell it. Do you know where I can go to print copies of a book without being forced to sell it online, order a minimum quantity over 10 books, or have a "not for resale" label on the cover?
I would say no; if you publish fanworks on an established publishing site like Amazon for profit using someone else's creative works, you're liable for legal action. Fanworks exist in an area of copywrite which has more protection IF you don't do it for profit. Fanfictions are for fans, BY fans. Long story short: don't publish fanfic for profit. You could get sued.
Thanks for the review! Does Amazon have to review your work before printing it (to make sure it's not copyrighted?) Also, next to the description it asks for details "So customers can learn more about your book." Will this proof show up for others to see or will that only apply once it's been published?
Excellent video!! This is exactly what I want for my book. I never intended to sell it so I'm not interested in publishing it. However, I feel that I need a little help with the editing. What do you recommend?
Excellent video! I have one question that hopefully someone can answer. If I use the free KDP ISBN number, but I just want to print proofs here and publish from Ingram Spark, would that cause any problems or issues down the road? Can I delete the book all together after printing them in KDP once I'm happy?
If you don’t want free ISBN and want to purchase your own, do you need to have that ISBN before ordering the proof? Or can you purchase the ISBN after you order the proof? Thank you! Also, in the cover upload, do you include the spine and the back? Thank you.
Hi, Great video. Thank you. I’m wanting to print a proof copy of my book but don’t have a book cover or images throughout the story yet. I’m wondering how you created your book cover. What did you use? And can you recommend any good apps / programs for creating animation type illustrations.
Thank u for making this video it is very helpful 💓? Do I have to have a registered business and and ein # to get a proff or can u use your own personal account to do this portion of the process? Thank u kindly for your help! :)
I love this channel :) when you are uploading the cover, it lists size options in cm/inches but if you are designing it yourself how do you know what pixel dimensions you need to use or do KDP automatically resize it when you upload the image?
It depends. I got one as quickly as 5 days after I made the order, and another took 2 weeks. So I can't really say, might also depend on which marketplace you buy it from and the printer's availability in the area.
Hello, I was wondering if it would be okay to print a fanfiction using this method. I wrote the fanfiction myself, mentioned both on the cover and in the inside of the book that it is a fanfiction, and am not going to sell the fanfiction. Can I get in trouble for this even with the precautions?
How/where can you print individual copies of books at an affordable cost, that ARE for resale? Like, if you wanted to make custom books and not order in bulk?
you can do it with Amazon the same way, you just have to actually publish the book. I was just showing how you can get a proof copy but it's the same process. Then you, as the author, can order author copies and sell them yourself, or people can order them from Amazon and they get printed and shipped to them directly.
I'm 18 and have no money and I'm trying to publish my book I plan to make it at least 200 pages it's been my dream to make books I found a place were they basically take people books that are finished and then take a bit out of ever sell so I'm trying to finished my book so I can send it off to be published I hope this works
The "not for resale" banner is printed on all the proofs. If you actually publish the book, the finished copies and the author copies will not have that.
Can i use this to print hard copies of other people's books? For some reason there is alot of bakers that seem to only publish thier books as pdfs and i want a hard copy
You just save the form as a draft 😊 At the bottom of the form there is always the option to save your progress as draft, so you don't have to fill everything out until you are ready to publish and set your date. You can still order a proof when your book is set as a draft.
I cannot tell you how much it costs because it depends on your book and which amazon marketplace you will order from. But yes you can send it anywhere you want because you will add it to your basket like any other item on amazon.
I tried to go through the process but it made me select a publishing date. I think maybe KDP has changed since this video was uploaded and now I'm very stressed.
You don't have to select a publishing date. Just click save draft at the bottom instead and you can go through the process without actually publishing.
were your print proofs have really bad text quality? Like faded lettering with white lines through them? Some pages the text is hardly visible while others the words are more visible. I checked with the book designer and she said everything was exported correctly too.
Okay Commenters. Soo... I typed up my story in word. I want to make it a physical book to give my kids. No publishing necessary. any advice or InSite will be appreciated. can i just save it as pdf and upload it? do i need to use a different program or file type? do something with the margins? before going to Amazon KDP? please and thank you good people.
You can find tutorials on UA-cam for how to format the word file for publication. But yes ultimately you save it as a PDF and then upload it to KDP. Also, I recommend publishing it, literally just pressing the button, letting it process and then you can order author copies that do not have that ugly "not for resale" banner, so you can give something nice to your kids. Then just unpublish it and no one will know.
I think you can just go in and click 'upload cover' and it replaces the existing one. If not then you can just delete the project and create a new one without ever having published the old one. I'm actually thinking about doing A/B testing by publishing two versions with different covers to see which is more attractive.
What if you just want to print a book and not have it go trought any publishing companies like that? Just... get a normal printed book, that nobody else has. No "not for sale" line?
You could do the same thing but set your book to be live for a short time during which you can then order an author copy (which comes without the "not for resale" banner) and then quickly unpublish it so that no one else can see it/buy it. Also just to say that if you do publish it but don't tell anyone, the chance of someone finding it and ordering it are very slim 😅 So I think it's safe to do so if you just want a copy of it for yourself.
