Very small military (only 23,000 active personnel) with 25% of the troops being female. They currently only have 12 modern tanks and 12 modern fixed wing aircraft. Most of their other weapons and equipment date back to the past century. How come Croatia, which is half the size of Hungary with much smaller GDP has more aircraft? How come Serbia, which is also smaller and less wealthy than Hungary has more tanks? They are going to buy new weapons and equipment but most of it is years away and with insufficient numbers. For 30 years Hungary did not take its national defense seriously and depended on NATO for protection. Now there is a war next door and NATO, like the EU, is not very happy with Hungary. Hungary has a history of going to war unprepared, with poorly trained soldiers, out of date equipment and weapons and poor leadership. Maybe that is why they keep losing wars?
