1:02 Macht desperately wants to have a peaceful relationship with humans, but he can't. It's like watching a kid try to reach something a bully tossed up out of reach... Unfortunately in this case the bully is whatever forces created the demons and this kid decided to try to reach it by stacking the bodies of other children, and you can tell there aren't enough kids in the playground to make a stack high enough to reach the goal.
It's also sad because if he ever actually reaches his goal he will also be able to understand how horrific his methods were.
Fern, living up to her name being a *distant* sniper.
This battle with Solitar recalls Serie’s comment about Frieren being unskilled for her age. Here Frieren faces someone who is close to her equal in mana and probably of similar age. It is clear from the beginning that Solitar is more skilled than Frieren at both attack and defensive combat magic. Which is probably exactly what Serie meant.
But then we discover that for the entire fight, Frieren was multitasking, and working on analyzing and dispelling the Gold curse Macht had cast on the area, so that she would restore Fern and Stark, for Fern to snipe Solitar with the decisive attack. Which in turn recalls when Serie asks how a mage like Frieren could possibly defeat the Demon King, and Frieren answers by saying she didn’t do it alone, but had the help of a party.
So while Frieren hasn’t spent as much of her time honing her pure combat magic like some other mages of similar vast age, she hasn’t been “wasting” that time either. She has been developing other skills, which she finds ways of using to her advantage in combat as well.
1:17:02 she said a 'summoning' back when she was first looking for one. We haven't seen anything that uses components tho... And she used one of the messenger birds to send it off somewhere after collecting it from Himmel.
If it were another series I would expect it to end up being something ill-advised, like trying to resurrect her hometown, but in this series I totally expect it to be a way to summon the ultimate cookbook of mostly meat recipes.
It's also interesting that these shadow dragons leave a horn, as demons and monsters seem to crumble to mana dust and disappear when killed.
Perhaps you summon shampoo that keeps your hair in place for 1 week and gets not dirty. But given the potion that dissolves clothes, it is something alike such a case specific drug.
A small detail to note here. Had Frieren proceeded with her original plan, which was to fight Macht herself, she would certainly have lost. Without intimate knowledge of his opponent’s fighting style and specific immunities to that opponent’s signature magic that he prepared in advance to compensate for the raw power difference, Denken would have had no chance against Solitar, and then Solitar and Macht would have ganged up on Frieren and beaten her.
Denken stepping forward to fight Macht and Frieren deciding to trust him to do so was the key strategic choice that turned the match in their favour.
I'm caught up with the manga (chapter 138) and catching up on your videos. I watched the very first ones last night, I hope there will continue to be videos of controlled length. I will also catch up with this live as soon as I can, but I am hoping for a cut of the live itself by video format: it would certainly be easier (for length issues) to catch up.
Anyway, I am glad to have met you! Every now and then the youtube algorithm flags great channels!
My favorite character is Eisen. He can crush diamond 💎
And I can finally say that because you got past that bit.
@52:46 the “Heiter has 1/20th of Frieren’s mana” figure gets banded around a lot. I don’t think it’s accurate at all.
Frieren STARTED by throttling her mana at 10%, a thousand years ago. At 3 years and again at 50 years, Flamme tells her that she’s “gotten much better at it.” In ep 10 we also get a shot of Frieren’s mana suppression right before she meets the Hero party and it’s even more refined. And when she releases her mana against Aura it is WAY more than a 10x increase; it goes from a ~1m diameter to encompassing the entire battlefield.
Heiter is insane, like all of the members of the party of heroes, but I really do not feel like the text supports the 1/20th number very well.
One of these days I'm going to see enough comments like this that I'll be motivated to measure the area of the shown auras. I'm hoping someone else does a good job with it before I start down that rabbit hole tho. 🐇
Denken and Fern and Flamme - three mages who were the first students of immortals. Three mages who are absolutely ruthless when put into combat, despite their personalities outside it. Three who are appreciated by masters who are generally considered not particularly capable of emotion or understanding of humanity.
At the beginning of the fight, Solitar deliberately led Frieren away from Denken, separating them, saying that humans can work better together than Demons can. And in the end it really was superior teamwork that decided the battle. For although Solitar accounted for the possibility of Frieren and Denken working together, she completely overlooked the possibility of Frieren and Fern working together, having assumed Fern was permanently out of the fight because she had been turned to gold. And Frieren dispelling Diagoldze over the land not only freed Fern to join in the fight, it was also what distracted Macht and gave Denken his opening. Furthermore, if Macht had not cast Diagoldze as he did just before the fight started and turned Fern and Stark into gold, Solitar might well have either killed or disabled Fern to the point where she wouldn’t have been able to snipe Solitar later. So Macht and Solitar still ended up interfering with each other.
1:17:04 iirc, the shadow demon horn was used for summoning. I think in this case it was a gag reference to the beginning of the story. It had me smiling on the subway when I was reading the manga lol
1:50:05 Frieren(the character), Serie, and Kraft are all better Tolkien elves than the ones on Amazon.
The level of care, detail, and causality that goes into Frieren, the anime, feels very similar to Tolkien's works.
Frieren, Serie and Kraft are better Tolkien Elves than some of Tolkien’s elves. I always felt that a few of the elves in the Silmarillion acted just a wee bit too rashly and lacking in forethought for beings who were by that time several thousand years old. They really should have known better.
Hmmm frieren was deff giving it her all that fight but she can just multitask really well. If frieren wasn’t analysing the spell she wouldn’t have done any better than if she were to do it at the same time
It would be interesting if Himmel is left-handed. It would make him more similar to Link, Napoleon Bonaparte, Fidel Castro, and the most famous Austrian Painter.
The suggestion that he is likely ambidextrous is probably accurate.
Fun trivia, ambidextrous, directly translated from Latin, means 'both right handed'.
If this amuses you you should also look up 'sinister'. Fun stuff, cultural right handed bias runs deep.
Animated and drawn characters tend to end up being ambidextrous because it’s more flexible for posing and framing, but as an expert swordsman, it’s not unreasonable for Himmel to be ambidextrous. So many examples of animated characters using both hands for writing in different episodes; the creators probably don’t think too much about it unless it’s a character element explicitly stated.
1:13:06 a Stark arc? A starc?
The ship is very strong indeed.
1:17:14 IDK, she wasn't forced to her trump card that her clone had used, recovered faster than any of the other combatants, and was able to trade equally with Solitär while unraveling an incredibly complex and massive bit of magic. She also was able to find or create an opening to undo this magic... I doubt she would have lost to Solitär. Had she not undone the golden land it is likely Macht would have killed Denkin tho, and I doubt she would do well in a boss rush with Macht assisting Solitär or stepping up for the bonus round.
sure you can say Frieren with analyzing how to revert all of the golden land may not have fought Solitär in full force, but then again we don't know what Solitär had in her sleeve. And even the height of magic may not have made a difference against the demons mana shield. Solitär had the upper hand and would have won if not for Fern in my opinion. As Serie said Frieren is relatively unskilled and I don't doubt Serie's intuition.
solitar still had the upper hand and frieren literally says herself it would have been bad if the battle dragged out.
Frieren's "trump card" couldn't kill Fern. Do you seriously think it could defeat Solitar who is way more durable than Fern? That's very unlikely. Beside Frieren herself said she couldn't beat Solitar. That's why she unfroze Fern so she could do it.
She would not have lost since she still has the thing her clone used against the Demon King but it would be a very close call withotu the help of Fern.
@@alexandredecarpentries6485
The spell the clone Frieren used on Fern wasn't strong enough to kill Fern. It would no defeat Solitar who's way more durable than Fern.
Besides, Frieren herself said that her fight with Solitar was turning into a battle of attrition. This means her odds to win were around 50-50. Those aren't good odds for Frieren who was trained by Flamme to run way if she wasn't certain to win. That's why she decided to unfroze Fern. That gave her better odds at winning.

Well, you'll learn more about that in the another goated arc
land of lustrous have good manga too
Since the arc is concluded. It is personally not my favorite. Despite many are so into it and it has very nice things it was not to my likes as much as others. Perhaps what is the turnoff for me is the fight Denken vs. Macht, which is dramatic and will certainly be amazing but in essence a generic shonen fight with the protagonist repeating he can not overcome the obstacle and is in the end by some circumstance enabled to beat the opponent (it felt not-frieren). But it is no doubt a strong arc and my favorite demon with Solitär had her debut. SO. It was a fun ride seeing you experience it.
disagree completly the way macht was beaten makes perfect sense a generic shonen battle would be denken beating macht without external help but it was both frieren and series help ( counters to diagolze and frieren turning el dorado to normal distracted macht) that made him win
@@Jonas-jx3kw yeah Denken had so many help. Serie's, Frieren's, Edel and Lernen's,. He is clearly not match level. In some random shonen the protagonist would find a way to baake some power to surpass the antagonist. it is not the case. Denken is clearly way below match. I mean he worked and trained all his life for this fight and has and advanatge as the disciple of match and yet he still needs so much help. For exemple, denken vs solitar is not even close he would endured a bit porbably more than stark and fern and then he would lose wheras solitar is comparable to match in term of power.
@@Jonas-jx3kw Fine with me to disagree. But Denken is generic hero. Acquire the item/training as you think that makes you beat the opponent. Challenge the enemy, get a setback/struggle because the power is not at the same lvl, get an deus ex machina intervention and win. It doesn't take away that he put in effort and has for that the reward of sucess, but it is very much how the standard shonen fight comes about. And that is not Frieren like, as in most fights have not a more powerful antagonist per se, but to overcome him you have to make a move that is not anticipated but setup to not come out of nowhere.
@@Airwave2k2 thats a lot of yapping!
and thats what denken did by taking advantage of frieren turning eldorado back to normal (wich was set up)
so you are saying the high concentration zoltrack denken used was ou of nowhere? if fern was able to do it why not denken?
fern used it so its not an ability out of nowhere
Calling something golden is a perfectly legitimate, if uncommon, way to describe something that is great in English. It's also really punny in this case.
*cough* golden boy *cough*
1 is not great until you have watched more of the series I think.
Frieren didn't "let" Fern have the final shot on Solitar. Frieren could not finish Solitar on her own. She literally said so herself. That's why she unfroze Fern so she could do it. It was necessity. There was no other way to beat Solitar.
@@1idd0kun you know this is my first time reading it and I was live? I can mix things up sometimes and there was a lot going on but thanks for the nice comment!
aren't you the guy who said fern was better than frieren at mana concealment because you thought fern could completely conceal her mana(she cant) then tried to say completely concealing mana was different from suppression even though they're both literally mana control? LMFAO no way i found you 🧠💀
@@jesuschrist7816
Fern is better at mana concealment than Frieren. How would she capture the Still before anyone else if that wasn't the case?
@@1idd0kun because they found a stille nest? LMAO chapter 75 the fog demon states no living being can completely conceal their mana. his fog magic detects the slightest bit of mana, the EXACT SAME as a stille does. the description of a stille and his description is the EXACT SAME description. stilles run away when they detect the slightest bit of mana so there's no way she could have walked up to one and casually captured it becaue the stille would detect her(just like the fog demon with the same level of mana detection as a stille). if you really think fern is better than frieren at concealing her mana off of an imaginary scenario you made up where we have no clue how she caught it and there's a direct statement later on in the series(the fog demon) that DIRECTLY debunks your IMAGINARY reasoning, then you might be 🧠 💀 .
solitar states frieren is better than fern by far at suppression and you BETTER NOT say completely limiting it is different from limiting it to a 1/10th like last time because in the chapter where flamme explains mana suppression, frieren asks her why dont demons suppress their mana and flamme talks about how demons suppress their mana for short periods of time(for stealth) and in the same chapter is telling frieren to suppress her mana to 1/10th. she talks about complete suppression and suppressing to 1/10th in the same chapter and makes ABSOLUTELY NO statement that the two are different things.
serie states frieren's mana control is so refined which is why she can trick demons, because mana suppression is literally mana control. solitar literally states frieren's mana suppression(which is mana control) is way better than ferns and that fern still has a long way to go. you have NO basis whatsoever for why fern is supposedly better than frieren at completely suppressing her mana other than that 🧠 💀 reasoning about the stille that is purely speculation and has a statement later in the story that directly debunks the theory.
fern literally lamented the fact that she isn't as good at magic as frieren and frieren says fern would never catch up to her in skill and technique (which mana suppression falls under). frieren has only ever stated that fern was faster than her at casting magic, NOTHING else. you really think a 19 year old is better at ambushing than a 1000+ elf who has dedicated her entire life to suppressing her mana and killed the most demons in history. you're a funny guy to say the least. i guarantee your response is going to be devoid any all logic and you're going to say something 🧠 💀 in response. just like it was last time because you can't accept the fact you're wrong and that you're not that smart lmao. for anyone who sees this comment im saying it before he even responds to me, his response(if he even responds) will have the most 🧠 💀 logic. watch this.
and before someone says im being a 🍆 head to him, this dude called me out my name multiple times befor then snitched on me to mods when i said something back(while deleting his insulting comment before he snitched so he didn't get in trouble too because they couldnt see what he said) basically, he's corny asf AND a religious fern fan who acts like she solos the verse.
