We grow many different kinds of Coneflowers but none of them are as distinctive and different as this HIGHLY UNUSUAL one! Echinacea Green Twister is a good vigorous grower with very unusual carmine-red and pistachio colored, spoon shaped florets. It is a native variety that is certain to catch the eye of all who come to admire it in your garden. It is another easy care, long-blooming selection that butterflies and pollinating insects will want to visit. One that is equally valuable whether you plant it for a bold splash of color to your garden, in seasonal planters and containers or snip a few stems for a eye catching floral arrangement.

Absolutely, there's so many really unique and very special ones. And, there's more coming all the time. Have you used it is flower arrangements?
It is wonderful in the garden ,but when you snip a few flowers and put them in a vase.... Man, they really stand out!
      Thanks for letting us know.

@@OverdevestNurseries I planted one in the garden last spring. Added 2 more this year, excited to see new colors and mutations.

I finally caved thanks to this video. I've ordered one crown which I plan on using as a background piece in a tulip small bed (something to follow up the spring show with)
I'll start with one since the bed isn't that big, but if it's too sparse I'll toss in another!

That's great to hear. If you reside in our region (Northeast & Mid-Atlantic States), don't forget that our partnering garden centers will be stocking plants like the ones we feature in these videos. Big, premium sized, healthy specimens that are ready to settle in quickly and make an instant impact.

@@OverdevestNurseries It's a bummer that I'm just north of you in Canada (Quebec, zone 5a) because your selection is truly amazing. If any of your plants get shipped north of the border, I would jump at the chance. Despite my location your channel has now more or less become a guide for plant ideas. Your videos are detailed enough and show perspectives to the point where I can decide what I'll pick. This is extremely useful since photo searches for flowers on Google yield less than optimal results.
By the way, I have a request: If you carry Crocosmia, I would love videos on the cultivars you carry! Being a new homeowner, I had to learn a lot in short time, and I was surprised to find out after buying Crocosmia Lucifer that no one I knew had grown this before - not even my mom who has decades of gardening experience. When the Lucifer started blooming, it was so shockingly beautiful (sharp red upwards pointing flowers) I bought a cluster of Crocosmia Emberstone (red-orange downward flowers) and made a new bed just for them. I have recently seen the Fire King (bright yellow with red-orange striped downward flowers) cultivar at another nursery and that one is also a beauty that I may add next year. When arranged right they make a fountain of color, it's spectacular.

hi, at 1:50 on the right of the Green Twister is another orange coneflower, what is it? And how does it compare to the Kismet Extreme Orange coneflower highlighted in your previous video about two plants to the left of the Green Twister but not seen in this video? Do you have a side-by-side shot of both types of orange coneflower? Thank you.

    • @OverdevestNurseries

      Thank you and well spotted!
The orange colored Coneflower that has caught your eye is Echinacea Prima Safron, here's link to another of our videos that will explain more about it: ua-cam.com/video/9XlCRzJvJWU/v-deo.html
We don't have any side by side pictures (because we tend to film these varieties individually) but the nice thing about visiting our partnering garden centers is that because our plants are delivered when they are coming up to their peak (in season), you can see (and compare) them for yourself, right there on the display benches. Finally, here's a link to our website that will enable you to find out where the garden centers are located:grownbyoverdevest.com/retail-locator/ and also you can search: grownbyoverdevest.com/plant-search/ through our varieties line up and get details like height, and view pictures etc.

How do these hybrid echinacea propagate? By seeds or by root division?

    • @OverdevestNurseries
      @OverdevestNurseries  Рік тому +1

Thank you for an interesting (and important) question. These hybrid selections will not come through from seed, so dividing them is the best way to get extra and longer living plants. This is normally carried out in early spring, just as the dormant crowns are emerging from winter hibernation, or alternatively it can be done in autumn too (although David prefers the early spring timing).
The way to do it, is to dig around the clump, shake (or wash off) the soil, then with your thumbs and fingers tease the crown apart or slice in between the tips of the shoots with a sharp knife to divide the rooted parts. Then re-plant them (adding generous amounts planting compost), like we demonstrate in our "How To Plant A Perennial" video: ua-cam.com/video/yfTBndSfySI/v-deo.html. Here, David is planting one of our pot grown plants, but the principle is the same.
Keep in mind, that most of these hybrids are patented, which means that wholesale production is illegal, but usually no one minds if you split your plants for your own garden.
Besides, dividing them like this every 3-4 years, helps to keep them vigorous and strong growing which means that ultimately, they will most likely be longer lived and more impressive. 😉😊👍👏💚
