What this means is that astronauts up in space are aging slower than everyone here on Earth. But why?

u don't age slower, for u and for the space ship u age at the same normal rate, but at earth time go faster, and people there age at the same normal rate too "but relative to earth"

For the people who actually want a straight forward answer:
Gravitational pull is what causes you too age faster. When you move at a certain speed you actually are defying gravity, whether your in space or not. For example if you could run at 5/a second and ran off a cliff, you wouldn’t fall too the ground initially,
In space however you have no gravitational pull putting stress on your body.
There’s MUCH more too it but this is my basic understanding of it

Try imagining infinite space. It is hard. That is why it is hard to imagine "space-time" and invisible network of time in all universe that can be slowed down on some places or speed up on other places caused by various things from which one is like flying fast on non-gravity places. Nothing to do with "stress on the body"

So what I'm getting is that we'd age the same way chronologically as someone here on Earth but only our physical age slows down?
So, this is in relation to age as measured by time, and not age as measured by biology.

It would appear that when they say ‘Time moves slower *here* relative to *there*’, that they are in fact saying that our perception of time appears slower *here* due to a difference in one’s perception of the light which reaches them, concomitantly allowing them to merely perceive time, but not to biologically endure time. This would make sense, but they argue there is real change biologically too 🤯
I'd like to see this space aging thing with pregnant woman. We send 2 months pregnant woman in space for "2 earth years".
After our 2 years she comes back, either still pregnant, with younger baby or baby thats old and big as it would be oj Earth
@@JohnE0102 It's not just a perceived difference in time. It's a complete distortion in time for both parties and this includes biological processes.
@@anothersone5304 that's not possible. You would have to send them very far away at a verry very fast speed and then also bring them back at the same speed to see and noticeable differences.

@@JesusLovesYou-j7m and how do you know that. I mean I am a 14 year old and the farthest I understand is the more closer you are to the surface of the curve due to the mass of earth the slower the time is for you and when you move your momentum bends the space time and thus time is slower for you.

I think it’s important to state that time is relevant to your pov. A second will pass the same from our pov, the difference is how much faster one second is for the other person.

When you go around earth, each time your direction changes and so acceleration occurs. Effect of acceleration and that of gravity are same. So the person going around earth goes younger, because of time dilation due to gravity and velocity. Though effect of earth's gravity is less for him, effect of acceleration of the circular motion is more.

Once we went to space, we will feel a different world.
So if you keep moving on earth (closest to the gravity that only exists here as we know) then you will age slower to somebody just floating in space (not moving) but if the person in space was moving (such as the space station constantly orbiting the earth) then they would age less than the same equivalent of people moving on Earth - so thats why they said superman at the end would age less if he could keep flying around the earth because he would be not only moving but also in space and moving compared to the difference of moving on earth (closer to the gravity pull)

But would your experience of time change with that, do you actually gain more years or is it only more years in the eyes of the other person back on earth? Like do I experience 10 years let’s say but when I meet up with my friend after coming back to earth it’s actually been 11 years for him or some other time greater than my 10 years.
so is the max speed of light a limit or once you go faster than it time starts to go backwards and we just cant measure it so it apears thats the max speed ?

depends on the speed on which they say it, but assuming that both say it at, as an example, 2 syllables per second, then yes it would technically, (i think, but i am no physicist)

No because you're closer to the mass of the earth and you can't physically create and sustain the velocity time dilation needed for a human to offset the gravitational time dilation from the Earth's mass. If the ISS was floating rather than orbiting at thousands of Mph, they would age much faster than we do on earth. The time dilation they create with their velocity around Earth offsets the gravitational time dilation from earths mass. Its trippy but its proven science.

Whatever. I say you age slowly when traveling close to speed of light because of conservation of energy. Your atoms are less active so you age less.

what you are saying is because stars are millions of AU's away from our solar system even the closest star we know Proxima Centuari.
When Gravitational forces in the star becomes unstable it explodes forming Neutron stars and black holes but the light emitted by the stars while destroying itself takes millions of years to reach our Solar system.
So,even if we are able to travel in the speed of light stars we see today may have been blackholes thousands of years ago before we arrive there.

Can you measure "time" without gravitational time dilation?
If I were to count 1-5 in my mind, it would take same time anywhere in universe, gravity may effect the way we measure time,eg clocks tick, but if we measure time as how long it takes to do a thing, it should be same everywhere.

Yes, for yourself. And when you look at your clock and stop how long it takes you to count from 1-5 in your mind, then it will alway show the same time, not matter where you are in the universe. I don't understand why you think that your mind works different than clocks, how should that work?
The point is: It it slower or faster relative to places somewhere else in the universe with stronger or lower gravity or speed. But when you don't get in contact with somebody where the time runs different, you will never notice that. So imagine your friend goes in a spacecraft and flies with super high speed away fro earth, turns around and comes back and landed one hour after the launch. So you waited for an hour for the spacecraft to come back, it felt like an hour, your clock says it was an hour. But your friend comes out of the spacecraft and says that it was only 10 minutes. And NOT because of a psychological effect (so that it is boring to wait for a spacecraft, but exciting to fly with one), but because for him inside the spacecraft it was actually only 10 minutes. Also his clock says that.

Summary : So the closer you to the center of a gravity (which in this case Earth's), the faster you will spinning/orbiting. And since we using Sun as our time measurement, of course time will go faster instead of being far from the gravity/Earth
i don’t quite get it still unfortunately, if there is a set of twins who are separated at birth and one goes up into space and lives there for 75 years, when he comes back down to earth, would their bodies have aged roughly the same amount? or would the twin who stayed on earth be long dead?
With gravitational time dilation! Wouldn’t the sun last longer then just 4.5 billion years, considering our current time dilation on earth? Does pressure change time dilation, because; I am sure the center of the sun has more gravity and pressure?
I’m pretty sure going to space increases your cancer risks a great deal. During time dilation you still experience reality at the same rate you don’t get more life from your perspective only to those not in your timeframe.

Wait, so what if two people were connected through a game that does have fixed time? Like Minecraft. Does the heavy gravity planet person move fast in the game? They can’t move at a normal speed to an earth person, because that would imply the heavy planet person would move slow, and the game wouldn’t move them faster to the earth person because it has software limitations. Is this a paradox, or is there something I’m missing?
The server would be based on either planet (1), and so it would send a signal every tick to the person where time moves slower (2).
The person 2 where time moves slower would get the ticks at the rate from planet 1, whilst their time moves slower. So the game would appear faster on planet 2.
But also, particles move slower for planet 2. So the game client for planet 2 would be perceived the same relative to planet 1 and so the game should feel the same. The server would just be seeming to have sped up, because it receives the signals at the rate of planet 1.
This is assuming the distance between the planets remains the same, if they move towards each other, a doppler effect would occur and the signals would be communicated at an increasing rate and cause a whole different problem.
I am no scientist, this is just how I think it would work. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Does this means that “age” of the universe is different in different part of the expanding universe? Those galaxy closer to the Center is travelling slower thus ages more and outer clusters are younger since experience aging slower?
Isn't time progression is always the same wherever you are? I mean 1 second on earth is the same as in jupiter or mars. Different aging process comes from gravity, people in space doesn't exposed by gravity while people on earth experiencing gravity causing like skin to sag, heart pumping blood upwards etc. The difference might be miniscule, but so as the aging difference. That's what i think

No. If you are floating in space doing nothing you would age quicker and die but if you are near a planet with extreme gravitational field or near a black hole you will age significantly slower like wayyyyyyyy slower

I think that lifespan can be changed.
So in accordance with above example, if a substance expires in earth within 1year, then the same expires in 1 hour in the plannet having higher gravity compared to earth.

The speed of light is measured using Distance x TIME. As time dilation changes due to gravity, the actually speed of light changes.
Your biological body is made up of cells, made by molecules, which are made by atoms, which are made by sub atomic particles. These sub atomic particulars. Which move very fast but not quite light speed.
The point I am trying to make is your biological aging is dictated by the speed and movement of these sub atomic building blocks. These sub atomic building blocks are Subject to time. Thus they move slower and you age less.
So if you teleport a loaf of bread into a massive gravity field by a black hole. Many years can pass for you on earth before the bread got moldy. The bread was only there a few hours. Granted the bread would be crushed under the gravity it would take to get these effects. This is because everything is subject to time, including the fungi and bacteria that mold bread.

Can someone help explain in detail. I am not understanding this. Here’s my perspective, if I set set a timer on earth and in space next to that person for 5 years your clock will go off at the same time meaning that you both aged 5 years so how can you look younger. How time appears to someone’s eye has nothing to do with aging. Some please explain!

@@travis2950 The slower time is for you the longer you could live relative to someone on Earth. If you could move at the speed of light you wouldn't experience a single second no matter how much time had passed on Earth so you wouldn't age at all.
This os not about time essentially it is about the appearance of aging.
