@@fractal_mind562 uhhh wtf do you think they do in medical school? Doctors might not know every single chemical in a drug is but you bet your ass they know how it will affect your body. Anyway pharmacists know, pharmaceutical chemists do, no one just makes a drug and easily puts it on the market. It is heavily tested over and over and the majority of drugs and biotech companies fail because of the time and money it takes to even put a single drug on the market. But sure, be afraid of Tylenol and vaccines, that's just natural selection at that point.

The only thing that's really "man made" in this case is the formulation to synthesize these drugs. Coming to pharmaceutical companies making literally billions from selling drugs, it's like any other market chain on earth. Fruit produce for example, is a billion dollar trade industry. Companies make trillions. But its all natural producst. Does your argument apply here too? I don't think so...
2. Since the arrival of modern medicine, mortality rates from various dieseases and disorders has dramatically reduced. But for your sake of argument, lets consider that allopathic medicine or modern medicines don't work. Then we should be seeing even higher death rates from diseases like smallpox, polio etc, given the fact that the earth's population is higher than when it was during the times of the above mentioned diseases. But, the mortality rate is relatively low as observe. Is it allopathy? Is it ayurved? Or did nature decide to suddenly heal and make humans stronger (not evolution)? Think about this as well...

I don't know if it's the way you explain such complex topics in such simplified ways or the background music (probably both), but I am so absolutely engaged throughout all your videos, it's like this intense focus that doesn't waiver until the very end, something even the best lecturers at university can't do.
These topics have fascinated me for like the last 20 years but I always gain new perspectives of things when I watch these. Thank you!
I found the test using two airplanes flying opposite directions done in 1971 online. The result is that the clock on the eastward ticks the slowest and the one westward ticks the fastest but the one earth is in btw. But its the one on earth that travels the least in space-time. How to explain that? Also the greater the speed the slower the time. But is that the speed observed or the speed to an absolute media? Both airplanes have speed observed by the one on earth. Why the clock on earth is slower then one of them in airplanes?

It might be that movement is a resource of an object such that
when most of the resource is being used to move in one direction
there is proportionately less available for movement in any other direction.
Since a body aging is simply the living processes wending their way through a programmed path and these processes consist entirely of particles moving in
many directions relative to each other then the amount of that movement will be less because most of the movement resource is being used up in the direction of travel.

I must have seen dozens of videos on time dilation, trying to wrap my head around the topic in an intuitive way, but to no avail. Your footstep analogy made it "click" for me in just a few seconds. Amazing work!
I'm having trouble understanding this, so maybe you could help? In the video, i will observe a moving person to mark more seconds than I do, so shouldn't that moving person age more than me?

Not for me. I think that no one can explain it. It just an optical illusion after all and the time is always be the same.
@@djsandbird Well you could say that the analogy is just an optical illusion but in reality, it is not. You can visualize it easier if you use objects on a bigger scale like a planet near a blackhole against earth. The planet near a blackhole experiences time as normal, but when the people from earth observes the people near the blackhole, they would see everything going relatively slower, hence, different perspectives but on a bigger scale. This goes vice versa as well. The people near the blackhole would see the time on earth move faster. Itll be like watching a timelapse. Though the difference in time dilation would depend on the strength of the pull of gravity but you should be able get my it now

He's just regurgitating what he learned from the mainstream physics community. But the production value of the video is professional grade and the analogy he uses is actually quite clever. It's just that what he is analogizing has no basis in reality.

Spacetime Minkowskians can not explain the twin "paradox", since it is an abstract geometrical/mathematical concept not fully in sync with fundamental physics.
In this concept it might as well have been the earth twin which accelerated away from the travelling twin (then not travelling),
and the earth twin would have been younger because he/she travelled a longer distance in spacetime.
In fundamental real physics the rocket twin transforms chemical energy (the fuel) into kinetic energy (the whole rocket).
And that kinetic energy is immediately balanced with lower internal atomic energy, a combination of lower kinetic energy of electrons, quarks (which is the physical time dilation, a changed rate of internal change in matter), and lower binding energies in sync with that. Relative to the earth, which did not accelerate. And no no no, it does not require General Relativity to explain it, it is not the acceleration (or the acceleration phase) itself which causes this physical time dilation. It is the velocity caused by the acceleration, caused by the transformation of energy, which causes it.
That is why one twin becomes physically younger,
not because of some "geometrical perspective". Time is physical change, not a dimension.
When you understand this, you also know why an object being accelerated to close to the speed of light, does not have increased mass. Its internal energy is lower in the same amount as its kinetic energy as a whole, the combined amount of energy (and therefore the mass) stays the same. Energy can not be added to the universe by setting objects in motion in it.

I work as a science teacher at a local high school and will surely use this as visualization of time dilation. Very intuitive video, and love the narration is perfect. I'm sure this will get millions of views.

Time dilation has no significance for time travel in physical plane. It actually indicates the depth of space-time while observation made on speed of light is a projection at the surface. And time dilation said to be due to gravitation is also not true, it indicates the difference in levels of crests and troughs along the surface of space-time. This was the best time dilation explanation video I've seen till now. The video and narrative was so good, that it forced me to finish the video first and leave a comment of appreciation. Your hard work truly deserves it. This video explains the concept in a layman's language for anyone to understand, yet keeping all the concepts and its ideologies intact. Kudos to the team/member who made this.
This is by far the best illustration of time dilation I have seen.
the animation of the stationary observer moving through space-time and watching moving objects move at angles to themselves was art.

I have seen various videos on explaining relativity… this one is the best so far, I can’t say I fully understand it but this one really is on another level! Space time visuals are super helpful!
I don't recall seeing the analogy of the meadow before, but 2:05 is a very good way to introduce relativity of simultaneity. It's a familiar experience to almost anyone, yet segues nicely into the geometric explanation of spacetime. Sucrée. Consider yourself the recipient of a high-five from Hermann Minkowski, which to you just arrived, but from his reference frame was sent in 1909.

As educational videos go, this is simply excellent. Clear explanations, great visualisations, and the presenter actually allows me some time to absorb what is being told before moving on.
Every video you've made on a topic thus far, imo, has been the most visually intuitive on the topic. This one's no different. Minutephysics did a good job with his Special Relativity videos, and so did PBS Spacetime, but those had parts sometimes hard to grasp. This one however is simple, easy to follow, and very elegantly animated. I've been recommeding your videos post-lecture to my students, and even though they have a poor mastery over the language, the animations were very helpful. Glad that I've found your channel.

One of my favorite aspects of this channel is that in the explanations we're told where the analogy breaks down. I love the fact that it's pointed out so I can intentionally avoid trying to square that fact while interpreting the analogy. Extremely helpful.

Btw an important distinction. Only causally unrelated events' order don't matter. If two events are causally related, then all observers must agree on the order. They might not agree on the spatial or temporal distance between then events but they have to agree to on the total spacetime distance.

This is confusing, the Lorenzian geometry mentioned at the very end, with the cone analogy. It is just stated as space-time’s “peculiar” geometry that restricts order of events, as you mention. But what makes up the ‘peculiar’, ie - what restricts order of events from warping say into a curved loop and then out again. Like, if one sees 1-2-3-4-5, why couldn’t another see 1-2-3-4-3-2-3-4-5, right? Not that you would see it in real life, but theoretically why not...

@Snap-off - in terms of space alone, gravity, but it is only a contextual bias, because a plane falling will contextually allow me to fall down and then suddenly fall up. But, in terms of sequence it is falling towards highest gravitational source, so I know what you mean. BUT - what from some other theoretical observer, why no warping permitted, you know. Why can’t they see you loop in between, what literally in space time prevents that

@@gursahibwander3355 he just explained the relativity of time, you don't need to add the curvature of spacetime to explain a time dilation, you also don't need to know why curvature of spacetime happens in order to understand relativity of time, he did it for conciseness
the flat spacetime example is a dilation caused by velocity(you travel at different motion, the perspective changes), the distorted spacetime is caused by gravity(witch time is distorted in curvature and the space does not change due to einstein's second postulate about relativity theory)

I first read A Brief History of Time 30 years ago, which introduced me to this concept, and have seen so many explanations of time dilation in the years between then and now, but this is the best visualization I've seen of spacetime and how all this works. The subject is too abstract for any of us to ever truly grok it, but this got me a lot closer.
This is by far the most clear video I've ever seen on this subject. Congratulations!!

Well actually I wouldn't say that time dilation "causes" gravity. Rather, gravity and time dilation are both consequences of the curvature of spacetime.

Still if the object is stationary in space (not orbiting) I don't get why the time difference translates into vertical movement. How the time dimension movement transforms into spacial dimension movement.

Watching all of your videos on 2x speed while screenshotting various intriguing stills, occasionally playing them at .25x or .50x to capture a finer granulation of time evolution between the stills, has helped me understand time dilation haha
So if I understand it correctly, the reason why people on Earth are all experiencing time similarly is because we're all moving approximately in the same direction through the same space.

4:04 If the surface is curved for one but not the other, the directions are also different. If both travel the same curve, however, the directions are the same. So the second point is not always relevant; it is only the difference in directions that matters.
