I followed Jon and Andrew to Sekinchan for a day trip recently. Sekinchan is a fishing village and they have a paddy field (rice plantation) too, making the place really amazing for photography. I took this opportunity to do another POV photography, bringing you guys with me, showing what was directly in front of me as I took my shots. I brought along the dinosaur Olympus DSLR E-1 and a Zuiko Digital 14-54mm F2.8-3.5 II (lens borrowed from Jackie, thanks). This is also a continuation from my "old cameras are great cameras" series. You don't need trillion megapixels for good photography! You don't need to break the bank to enjoy photography.

I recently bought an E1 and loved it so much that I sold my modern Sony A7C and bought a second E1 (also with the 14-52mm). I don’t feel the need for the latest and greatest; these old CCD cameras not only make shooting more interesting but I also feel deliver a result you can’t get with modern cameras.

The Olympus E1 and 14-54mm were my first DSLR kit. As of today I have purchased and sold my fair share of camera bodies and lens....But I could never sell my E1 and 14-54, the colors from that sensor are amazing.

Just received my E-1, after 17 years, LOL! I'm using mine with a Sigma 18-50/2.8, and, I am really enjoying it, haven't had this much fun in photography in years! Really enjoy your videos, and, your enthusiasm! Thank you, sir!!!!

This was a perfect example of what I have felt for years because I still have beautiful images taken with my original Rebel XT which was 8mp. The only thing lacking on the earlier pics was my lack of an L lens which I added later. To each their own but I personally I find it humorous when (like this morning) I read on a Facebook Olympus group somebody recommending a 20mp Olympus camera over a 16mp with the mp as the primary reason. Maybe others find a big difference but I don't.

So, your last E1 video made me go out and find one. I found an E1 in the box, under100 shutter and still has the film on the plastic LCD protector! Now, i need a 9 18mm, 14 54mm 50 200mm. On we go!

I remember in the mid 2000s I was super impressed with the Olympus Camedia C-5050, it was almost as good as my SLR, but it had a f1.8 lens and an articulating screen it was only 5mp too. Olympus was doing some impressive stuff back then, even if I was more of a Minolta fan myself.

Astonishingly good images Robin. It just goes to prove (yet again) that primarily, photography is about creating imaginative and original images, which clearly an elderly, but perfectly competent, 5megapixel camera with superb lens and in the right hands is more than able to achieve. I still regularly use my E-3 with both the 14 - 54mm and 11 - 22mm prime lenses with great results. I gave up obsessing about megapixels, lines per millimetre and street cred. etc, when I realised how much it impinged negatively on my overall enjoyment and creativity.

I like the idea of using older camera's. If you have kids it is a good idea to show them how to use the camera you no longer are using. My problem is that kids have great camera's on their phones. I really enjoy my higher MP camera's so I can crop the picture within the picture. With a lower MP camera I just have to make the picture I want without having to crop it. I bought a variety of old camera's for my grandkids, ordered the needed batteries and memory cards, and gave them a choice of two camera's each. Then had a picture contest. They enjoyed the prizes I provided and I enjoyed seeing their pictures. I still like to use the first digital camera (my wife bought it) a Olympus C-4000 4 megapixel camera. It still takes great pictures. Just don't rush it.

Highest iso is technically 3200, but 1600 and 3200 are extended and only really look fine when in black and white. The 14-54 and the 12-60 are wonderful lenses for the 43 system.

@@SuperZarkosis exactly! The color noise was pretty rough. It is interesting how different Olympus has taken lens design. Definitely better on the prime lenses now. You're kind of like me with living in the past with old Olympus Cameras. I've got 4 E-1s, an E-520, An E-30, and two E-5s and I have all the high-grade and super-high grade lenses except the 300mm F2.8. Even though I have an Em1 MK II, 1DX and an R5, I find myself carrying one of my old Olympus 4/3 bodies most of the time. For some reason, I get more pleasure out of shooting them than the modern cameras. My favorite of course is the E-1 matched with the 14-35mm F2. Give me an E-1 and those fantastic colors from the sensor and I'm as happy as can be.
