T Ghost - Invisible Tank

- The formidable Swedish CV90120 light tank has recently received an astonishing upgrade that almost seems to push the armored vehicle into the realms of science fiction.
Already possessing some of the most impressive mobility-to-firepower ratios in the armored combat vehicle industry, the CV90120 is now undergoing the addition of the Ghost ADAPTIV infrared camouflage system, which is sure to make the light tank a remarkable asset in the arsenal of future warfare.
Because the most effective anti-tank guidance systems like the one used by the US Javelin rely on infrared detection, having an armored vehicle that can effectively mask its infrared trace and even disguise it to fade into the environment is a significant achievement.
If the project continues as planned, the CV90120T will be able to deliver devastating firepower while remaining technically invisible to the enemy… A proper ghost tank! - Наука та технологія
All they need now is an HDMI port so between engagements they can watch movies on the side of their tank. Pretty slick tech.
Underrated comment... unless the tank has it already and we don't know it.
I'm with you, Chilly
You're gonna need nod's to actually see it, also, it's resolution isn't all that high but should be enough for the meme.
Everybody gangsta until the enemy tank rickrolls you.
Actually I think that would go better with a Self-propelled Artillery Piece. rather than a recon Tank. what's more likely to be engaged?

First rule of tank warfare:
See them before they see you.
Second rule:
Shoot them before they shoot you. Light armor is less of a problem that way.
And this IR camouflage will make this tank very deadly at night. The enemy will not get a chance to see it.
@WTH1812 this technology applies to the first rule. If the enemy can’t see you, you will be the first one to shoot.
The Swedish strike, once again breaking the mold on Tank Warfare
I saw a clip on the history channel where the British used mirrors to bend light around a Chieftain and made it disappear, but this is light years ahead of that system
Essentially, it appears that this is exactly what they are doing?
The FGM-148 Javelin does have an Infared seeker head. But the missiles subsystems are more akin to the Walleye TV guided fire and forget system. It locks onto the image in three focal planes. It is undetectable, un-jammable and inescapable once it attains that lock and is fired. Once sent on its merry way, something is gonna die.
Is it similar to some missiles that uses video feed to track the target?
@@aspopulvera9130 Some what, as the tracker scans, you the operator place the target image into the sighting box. When lock is achieved the box will bracket the indented target and not move from it. One then simply launches the missile and moves to another location before the missile makes contact.
The whole point of this is that it can change its image in real time to match the background while moving.
Active visual camouflage would be the next step and that is already being worked on for aircraft.
@@allangibson2408 problem is that it still exists so a laser range can still “see” it
@@PorWik Laser guidance still requires the operator to see the target. IR helps with avoiding the initial observation, active visual camouflage is the next level beyond this.
Can't get enough of DT . Narrator has a talent and a gifted voice .
Incase anyone wants to know how this witchcraft is possible, it's thermoelectric cooling, aka the Peltier effect. Its super simple. If you have a semiconductor and you apply an electrical differential (voltage) it will create a temperature differential. One side gets cold, and the other side heats up: you're using electricity to pump heat from one side to the other. The heat doesn't just disappear (thermodynamics is a bitch like that) but you can pick up the heat from the hot-side and dump it into the environment. I would guess they use the ground. However many watts of heat is generated by the engine or crew or whatever that's how much you have to sink. Also, the electricity you use to do the pumping ends up as heat so you have to sink that too. Just some ball park estimates, a human puts out 100 watts of heat at rest and you can move several watts of heat per watt of electricity.
yeah its old tech that has been around for a while and is used in many everyday items like small portable refrigerators and coolers because it weighs a lot less and is very small in size when compared to traditional refrigeration
I used to use Peltier beer coolers in college! To think that little plate is now protecting tanks is pretty cool.
The Swedes make some amazing weapon systems!
This is a very impressive tank! Outstanding work from Sweden! This tank is going to dominate in the battlefield and, if I was the enemy, I would be very nervous and uncomfortable in the field knowing that this tank is lurking and watching. Again I think this is going to bring a huge difference to the battlefield and will become a huge asset to the swedish military. Outstanding work to Sweden.

@@THEGAME-tz6yu wdym? tanks still cant easily see it so its not useless

Look at Sweden killin it again with advanced weapons platforms that potentially outclass even the US! Last time it was Kockums with the Gotland-class sub

@@hellothere1656 good idea. We might need to add radar to our Javelins. If the thermal don't match the radar signature then youre on target. Gonna be difficult to make that a man carried system.
That Swedish tank will be awesome
This tank could simulate the infrared silhouette of a friendly while it's barrel turns toward you and FIRES! Wow.
The Jav doesn't care what kind of tank it is. It just tracks on the IR..
@Bob Hauk Tanks emit huge amounts of exhaust from the turbine engine. The only way it could be entirely camouflaged is if the engine is off, in which case, the tank wouldn't be able to move or turn its turret.
@@skuzlebut82 Which is why new M1 tanks are getting standby generators (which also burn less fuel than an idling turbine).
The Ukrainian T84 uses a diesel with inherently low IR signature.
@@allangibson2408 A low IR signature doesn't mean invisible. Seeker heads are cooled to cryogenic temperatures which make them EXTREMELY sensitive. You have no idea the sensitivity of then.
@@skuzlebut82 You don’t need to be zero - just match the background. This is much easier in summer than winter.
Aviation IR seekers are looking against the sky - that’s an entirely different problem.
Those clips of it actively changing in IR is some of the craziest stuff I've seen in a long time!
Just remember the Ghost CV90 was shown off in 2007 that is 15 years ago am sure it has been further developed.
Technology is great, when it's functional.
We need a new technology called “function”, then we should apply it to everything. I just had a big 🧠 moment.
Didn’t they only 35% of the newly purchased F35s are actually functional.
Dayum! I remember watching a documentary where they used mirrors to bend lights. Then I thought about panels that displayed the environment around them to blend in fully. Interesting to see this coming to fruition!
Other than being a great IR chameleon, I like the idea of it "broadcasting" an IR type of IFF signal to friendly forces. If one of these tanks are spotted on the battlefield, an unsure soldier could look at an IR sensor and see if it is portraying the "IR code of the day".
You'd think that if these tanks are displaying an IR code, enemy forces could figure out to mimic it and display their own. But, if the enemy hasn't cracked radio communications, the tank could easily switch its IR IFF code at the push of a button. That makes me wonder if these codes couldn't be actively remotely changed by a central command unit and IR scanners would automatically "red flag" any vehicle with the same IR IFF code. In other words, HQ could send out a signal to all CV90120 tanks to display "123" (when not in active defensive camouflage) and all units would automatically display this code (when not in active defensive camouflage) and IR receivers would automatically sound an alarm when an unknown tank displaying this IR code is sighted.
The IFF code could be modulated into active camouflage - you just need to allow for the slow frequency response of the IR panels.
You dont really want to be pulsating out IR signatures more so than you already are. The enemy might not know the codes, but theyll be able to pick them up nonetheless and be able to track it. I think the real value of this is not so much to remain ‘invisible’ but to make it harder for IR-based weapons to target you. But as we sit here i bet US defense companies already have or are working on weapon systems that acquire targets via EM signatures. Everything electronic, or anything metallic for that matter, gives off EM waves. There’d be no hiding from that.
@@John_Redcorn_ You get a weak EM from living tissues, particularly a nervous system. Perhaps in the future, bullets that track the EM of a soldier.
You'd want to give the suspect tank in your cross-hair a minute to update, but yeah. Relatively passive way to put "IFF tags" on ground vehicles.
You could also have a method of marking concealed vehicles in a less obvious way, just a smaller thermal marking, doesn't have to cover the entire vehicle. Something that wouldn't immediately scream 'shoot me' to the enemy.
@@John_Redcorn_ it might be possible to shield EM signatures. But more likely, you can create EM distractions. Still, quite a thing if they can detect those from a distance...
As you can see,it's clearly visible to the cameraman. All hail the king of humanity, the cameraman
Sweet tech!
Nice to see Swedish and UK defence firms working together and producing some kick a** systems...
Yea I agree. Sweden and UK developed the NLAW anti tank weapon together.
Really cool. As long as the system isn't too fragile, it sounds like it could be very effective, especially combined with all of the other aspects of the 90210. The swedes really do know how to create top notch military equipment!
Like me, you went all Beverly Hills on this one, lol. its 90120 but i prefer the Brandon Walsh tank

Absolutely stunning technology.
Fascinating. Thank you for another great, informative video.
I know a fair bit about science, physics, and IR and this is downright badass. Someone over in Sweden has an awesome job and is pulling their weight. Only thing they'll need from there is to do away with the radar camo and put RBG+SWIR pixels(4 pixel) onto the peltier chip array cooled hexagons and they'll have damn near complete camo. No reactive systems needed. Cool tech 😎
And don't forget to forcefully vent the radiator air through LWIR absorbent material! No need for hotspots 🙄 alright, no more tech videos for me. Beer and UA-cam is gonna get me in trouble smh
It is breakthrough technology I think it'll have the upper hand against any other armored vehicle.
Go Sweden 🇸🇪🇸🇪🇸🇪
Correct me if I’m wrong, and I’m certain someone will correct me, but don’t tanks also have regular tv or optical sights? What use are fancy optical tiles against a guy with 20/20 vision and a 125mm shell?
I think you're correct, but I'd say that this camouflage will make a few different types of enemy weapons ineffective. I guess another way to say it is: "Would you rather have 2 guns pointed at you or one?"
@@thudthud5423 would you rather smell poop or vomit?
yes it is still visible but in bad weather and night situations thermal is often the only way to positively id another vehicle. also most systems (armored vehicles and UAV's) use thermals as even in optical systems it can be very difficult to spot a camouflaged vehicle in terrain, but on thermal they often standout a lot more.
I believe this is backwards.
If you look at history, this's the 1'st thing camouflage used.
Then comes gadgets to help : IR , Thermal , FLIR and so on . .
personally i love the entire CV-90 family, especially the IFV variannts like -30 or the -35 and i would love to serve on them. I also really like the idea on pupose built medium tanks based on the hull of an armies used IFV, to serve in a dedicated anti tank role within a brigade or even a bataillon in dedicated heavy companies. While usually mechanized infantry is supposed to go alongside main battletank units, we all know some countries do not have such units in all of their mechanized brigades.
Germany for example, has a at least on Mechanized Infantry Brigade that lacks a dedicated MBT/Anti-Tank unit, leaving the Grenadier Bataillons to sort of take care of them selves in that regard.
I personally would solve that by adding Heavy Companies to such bataillons, being made up ifv-based medium tanks to increase the anti tank capabilities of machanized infantry brigades
They should make other CV-90 variants with this tech. Together they would make a great night raid party.
You've put out some great vids.

It helps a lot that they can build huge amounts of quality due to lower quantity
i mean we got like 500 cv 90 and sold around 1300 so its not that super lower quantity, ofc ye not 10k tanks like russia, but i mean its not just 100-200 either
As my 1st Sgt used to say…”I’m f-ing impressed.”
Did you hear about the tank that was tasked to be camouflaged?
It was never seen again.
If you know the enemy have big ass guns and javelins than can penetrate all armor, it does make sense to downgrade to just enough armor to protect against "tier 2 guns" to gain more speed and ofc a lighter tank will have less of a problem using public roads and bridges and going offroad.

yes when it fires it will as well as its exhaust when its driving
Modern APFSDS will shoot through most of armors.
Invisibility and active protection with powerful gun, seems to make more sense.
But when tank will shoot it can be detected so other tank can start shooting that way.
Any modern tank should have at least 4 Javelins or similar anti tank missiles mounted on top by default. You can fire your gun and some missiles and immediately disappear behind cover or your stealth. That's hardly a new tactic, just one that requires your sensors and crew to work better and faster than the enemies.

Really cool stuff!
Also, it might be worth noting that this very same technology of reducing its thermal signature could be applied on light weight mobility devices such as an E-Bike. It could be mounted much like a windscreen. T
his windscreen could offer some ballistics protection as well with new high tech light weight armored plating.
The advantages of doing this is that an E-bike is small, light weight, can go almost anywhere, (either ridden or pushed/carried, even inside buildings) , and (thanks to a 500-1000 watt high torque w motors) can go up to 20 to 27 mph (on roads) and maybe half that speed on trails and can (with fat tires and such) go over snow and mud.
Also they can also be lain flat to make them harder to spot and target.
Also, cargo E-bikes can carry 300lbs or so of cargo such as heavy weapons such as 50cal MGs, automatic grenade launchers, 81mm mortars plus ammo, and man portable ATGMs and such.
E trikes can also use this to have even a lower profile.
These could augment light unmanned ground vehicles (such as the one you recently covered) and traditional manned vehicles as well by giving leg infantry more mobility, cargo carrying capacity plus protection as well.
With extra batteries they can have ranges of up top a hundred miles and batteries can be easily recharged, even by solar panels.
One can also employ heavier electric motorcycles that can are more powerful and can go much faster (say 50 -60 mph vs 10 - 20) but they also weigh more as well and thus may not be quite as flexible as their lighter e-bike cousins but one might employ a mix of the two to have the best of both worlds.
