MnO4 Highlights: Syrup, Honey, Alcohol, and Glycerin Rxns

Don't try this experiment at home! Check out what happens when we mix Potassium Permanganate with Honey, Syrup, Glycerin, and Isopropyl alcohol! We see some interesting oxidation reactions that are quite exothermic. It gets hot hot enough to burn you so be safe and don't do this one at home.

I have never put those two together. I think that was listed in this fun demo book I was reading through last week. Aluminum is one of those guys that loves to give away those electrons so I can see that potentially being a fun reaction!

When I was a kid, I once made a mistake and try to buy KMnO4 and glycerine at the same drugstore :)

You just got to be careful with that KMnO4. All those strong oxidizers deserve a little extra respect!

​@@flemdogscience yes, but if I compare it to the the stuff we were doing as kids some 30 years ago (in Poland), KMnO4 and glycerine was quite pale :)
Main source of fun was KNO3 which was easily accessible in every shop - just add a sugar. Those were the halcyon days...
