aaaa so i finally get to cover this song after a few years.
this song!! means a lot to me!! and i really relate!! so i tried to put it into words as best as i could, and hopefully it came through ;v; a huge thanks to sayri for helping me out with the meteor part, that was a bit of a pain to nail but i think it turned out just peachy! c:
is the dude an imaginary friend? maybe a friend who died? maybe they're both dead? i like to think that the girl hates the idea of growing up and would rather die than become an adult, and made an imaginary friend to spend the remainder of her "childhood" with her having fun. then he disappeared cause she realised that she can be happy in adulthood too.

Honestly, I believe this song is about love and growing up. As the girl grows up, she starts to lose herself. Her friend, the boy, always helped her keep that childish side of herself. He helped her stay her essentially. The Town Of Jade might represent healing of some sort or a spiritual realm. I believe he probably died or was a ghost the entire time and wanted to help her before he passed on. The gun he used wasn't to kill her - it was to kill her doubt and sadness. Possibly a way of saying "your old self is dead, now you can start over."
Thus, he passed on, and she moved on.
When you finally confess to someone and they casually put a gun to your head i was like well it happens to us all at some point XD

Im an avid rewatcher of this video and i cant believe it took me this long to pay attention to the mv more.
This is one of my favourite vocaloid mvs and i dont think i need to explain why - the coloring, the animation, the fluid transitions from panels to panels, its absolutely beautiful. Ameya is such an incredible illustrator.
To start my own theory, as you can see around 2:27 there are students gathering, and assuming from the way theyre all wearing a red flower pin, its most likely their graduation since thats what students wear during it. My guess is that all of their faces are covered with filters as a sign of them growing up, ready to leave their childhood behind and graduating.
The girl's face in 2:39 is only covered by the filters for only half of her face, her denying the want to grow up like the rest with the lyrics as she clutched on her own red flower pin, 2:44 and then throwing it away as the red petals fly through the wind. The filter only grows on her face, covering it completely.
Her face only clears up again when the boy is back, reminding her of her youth again. He points a gun to her, and when he shoots, a blue flower comes out and all the red petals disappear. My guess is that its a Waterfall Azure Mist, which means (yes im googling im an overanalyzer but not a flower expert) "Associated with healing and good health, this flower should be used in a get well soon gift or a celebration of overcoming an illness. Give this flower to a friend to show you're thinking of them during their time of sickness."
What i noticed is that in 3:15 he was putting that flower in where the previous graduation one was.
My theory is; a girl met a friend thats possibly in the same class as her, and they grow close. From the way the filter flickered in 0:51, shes probably close to graduating soon and feels sorrow about it - theres multiple reasons to, when youre her age you cant help but want to cling to simpler days of youth than growing up in a what seems to be a scary and unfamiliar world of adulthood - but her friend always helps cheer her up by spending their remaining days together.
That was until the day finally came. Every student is gathered in the hall to hold their graduation ceremony, but the girl's seat is empty 2:33 because she doesnt want to go through it. The boy finds her while shes struggling with the filter, at first he frowns because he understands her pain but eventually smiled and gave her the waterfall azure mist.
I think its his way of saying "were going to graduate and seperate soon, so we cant escape growing up. But even so, i wish for you to be able to endure that pain and hope that you will eventually heal again, even without me."
When the red petals from the graduation flower fades him away, "thank you for always sticking by me here."
3:27 at the end, she finally sits on her previously vacant seat. She was finally able to accept her graduation and growing up, and at the last frame she holds the flower on her chest through it all.

I discovered this song when I was 13, I would cry while listening to it and relate to the lyrics. I am 18 now and in 4 hours it will be my last day of high school. I haven’t been able to sleep all night and I have been just non stop sobbing to this song, I relate to it even more now.
Update: im on a new account the one I had when I was 13. But i have graduated and I am leaving the country soon, this song is still in my head all the time. also my birthday was last month.. im 19 now, i’m going to paris. It’s my first time out of the country and my town. I grew up here and my whole ancestry has been here since the town was formed including my own family members being the mayor, I am the first female to leave and go to college and not be a mother not to mention I am studying to become a psychologist with a doctors degree, It’s a hard burden to have on my chest, I feel like my ancestors are watching my every move. I just wanna be a kid again, I want this weight to be gone.. after college my father has already arranged the rest of my life.. if not I will shunned by the family. I secretly have a boyfriend I plan on running away with after college, we’re going to have a nice home in the woods with our own garden. Basically to summarize my rant. This song is still one of the most important things I have, It has been in my childhood.. it is now apart of my adulthood. Thank you Rachie. For everything. I will update soon I hope.

The way I see it is that it’s basically about a girl who doesn’t want to grow up, graduate from high school and become an adult (because she is dead set on the idea that life will become dull as an adult) so she comes up with an imaginary friend so that they can do fun dates and such just like children (and maybe the imaginary person is someone she once knew but grew up and left or something) eventually, with the help of her friend, realizes that there is no stoping time and that she must grow up (I really like the imagery for this part because he shoots at her but what comes out of the barrel are blossomed flowers symbolizing the “death” of her childhood and the blooming of a young adult)

I’ve always loved this cover because usually english cover lyrics are really, well, not poetic because of the lack of the nuances of Japanese, but this cover takes the lyrics and makes it fit the tone of the song. Like it’s more upbeat than the og and I love that

This song is my comfort song whenever I'm afraid. I am, putting it simply: A little bitch. Being in the dark scares me and so I sing this song whenever I'm forced to be in the dark by myself. It doesn't so much other than just break the silence and possibly make me think about something else but I've memorized it and I truly do appreciate it. Ok, Hello Internet! Welcome to Song Theory, where I dissect and present evidence from a song and to explain what might be happening or what it's trying to convey.
First off, Let me just say that this took over a week to think of and I've known the song for a year now and I'm only just trying to explain what it means now (But don't quote me on that, because I might've made mistakes) so with that in mind, let's begin.
In the beginning of the song we see two people, a boy and a girl. To make it easier, I'll call the girl Haru and the boy Fuyu. We see Haru and Fuyu playing in a playground while Haru complains about life being too boring wherein Fuyu invites her to go on a date in the so called "Town of Jade". Now let's first dissect the two people, clearly they're in middle school just by visual reference and is later backed up by lyrics about growing up into adults. it's common in anime tropes and even japan that middle schoolers have a misconception where once you've become a High schooler, you become an adult, hence "growing-up". We can also confirm that through the "date" that they had, clearly the date they went on was only in a playground, not a very entertaining place if you're in high school, if you ask me, but is perfect for middle schoolers.
Now The visuals and Lyrics somehow have a contradicting but kinda not type of story to tell, bare with me. Now listing to the lyrics, you can recognize that the girl is sing a song where she doesn't want to grow-up and stay as a child, this is due to their graduation day that is coming really soon. The visuals don't actually have the same work, rather, it doesn't fully work with the lyrics. Now during the video, the key visuals are the colors. In japan, color plays a lot of roles and symbolizes many things. Now what we see is a girl wearing a white uniform, while during the graduation, everyone else were wearing black. Black in the japanese color perception means sad occasions or are used during sad occasions, white is used the same but there's another color that disrupts this and shows that Haru was actually happy until she slowly became gloomy. The color red usually symbolizes love, even in the japanese, we see a red rose in the chest pocket of every student during the graduation. In japanese culture, there's a tradition where when people come of age, they wear a red colored yukata, this both means growth and for healthy blood circulation and healthy growth. Now what does this have to to with Haru not being sad during the occasion? Well the rose means growth during the graduation, and black means being sad or mournful, and so does white. Everyone was sad about growing up maybe because they might not be attending the same high school as their friends, if you want more proof, remember when their faces were pixelated during the entire ceremony? It's because they were crying, we can prove this by going back to the lines where Haru says "This impulse I got" where her eyes become pixelated because she was gonna start crying too, but always didn't because of Fuyu. In the end, she still cried during the part "The two of us here, though it wasn't clear" when she covers her face as it was pixelated, it is also from a few people in japan call "A messy Crier" where their faces are a mess if they cry. But you might be asking, if black and red means being sad and growth, why does white have a different meaning when black and white both mean mournful or sad? Well it's because in japanese tradition, a yukata with the color white and red actually symbolizes Happiness or Joy, exactly what the color Haru was wearing, a white uniform with a red rose. You might be thinking that, why is Haru sad then in the end if she was happy all along? and Why was Haru Happy while everyone else were sad? Well let's Continue, near the end, we see Haru crush the rose in her chest which leaves only the color white to be seen, it means that Haru was happy at first, but became sad and mournful near the end. Then why was Haru happy in the first place and why did she become sad? Haru actually didn't have any Real Friends, she was happy that she got to leave the school because she couldn't make any friends there, then that leaves Fuyu, isn't Fuyu her friend? Yes he is, but he isn't real, notice that during the graduation ceremony, there was only one empty seat when both Haru and Fuyu were not attending the ceremony. It only makes sense if Fuyu isn't real, Fuyu is only an imaginary friend Haru thought of when she was lonely. She was happy because she got to leave the school were she didn't have any friends but was sad because she knows once she gets real friends, she wouldn't be able to spend time with Fuyu anymore. We can even tell that she didn't have any friends thanks to the flower Fuyu gave Haru. The flower was blue, there's a colored blue flower that also has a symbolic meaning, this flower is the Ajisai. The Ajisai represent Heartfelt emotions but in both a negative and positive way. It's a flower that's given to her by herself to accept these haertfelt emotions from her imaginary friend. In a negative sense, it means heartlessness, which is in contrast to what Haru was describing Fuyu as, Fuyu was Gentle and Kind, so the flower is meant to represent both of them. The Ajisai means in a positive way, Fuyu, Fuyu is a kind and loving friend, while In a negative sense, it describes Haru, Haru is heartless, even during their date he says things like wishing for the planet to be destroyed and also means unfriendly, which explains why Haru doesn't have any friends, even in the end, we can see Haru all alone in a chair surrounded by empty chairs. Haru is all alone but the flower that is given to her by Fuyu means that she can work hard to be friendly, kind and gentle too, It's a symbol that says "You and I aren't too different, after all you were the one who made me" and becomes a final farewell as she clenched her hand to her chest where the Ajisai was because it feels like she could grasp Fuyu when she grasps the flower.

So a young boy and girl were close friends, and the girl started to develop feelings. However, its unclear but its either that the boy was going through some mental illness or depression or sickness. The boy started to fall for the girl as well and shortly before their graduation, the boy confessed his love as did the girl and sadly, either killed himself or passed away, leaving the girl with an empty heart but still being fufilled.

This song continues to bring tears to my eyes without fail. I have been listening to this cover for close to 6 years now and it was also somewhat my entry point to vocaloid music. It awakens such nostalgic and melancholic feelings within me. Only a few special songs are capable of that. I am eternally thankful to you rachie for creating this cover
My interpretations:
Let’s call the girl Haru.
Haru had a best friend, who left the for Town of Jade one day and never came back. She makes him live through a fantasy that blurs the line between real and fake.
But then, a part of her reminded herself (through the boy) that the line had disappeared. That she’s rotting away from the inside by staying in this fantasy.
The red flowers symbolise her memories, and the blue flowers (and the gun) represent her realising that she shouldn’t be drowning herself in what are basically lies.
Or, another interpretation, the gun is as inviting for Haru, asking her to come to the Town of Jade with him. The blue flower he offers her is one part of her, saying that she should give in and join him in the Town of Jade. But the red flowers are a stronger part of her, telling her to let go of him, and reject his offer (proof is a red flower petal wiping him away in a figurative sense)
The last interpretation? This girl has major suicide issues and the boy is that part of her who wants to die. The blue flower is an invitation to the Town of Jade and the gun is the transportation. The girl herself is a part of her that is helpless, who doesn’t know what to do and is being led on by the part that wants to die. The red flowers are the part that wants to fight, that wants to stay alive, and the red petal making the boy disappear symbolises the good part wiping away the thoughts of death.
In the end, the girl doesn’t die, and moves on.
The flower at the end means that she hasn’t completely let go, but she realised her mistake and didn’t let it affect her any longer.

I've been listening to this song again after a long time of forgetting that it existed but I wanted to give my own interpretation of the story (and I will be projecting a bit). But I see this song as being about the death of childhood or at least the realization of childhood coming to a close. But on top of that, I see it as also having to let go of a childhood friend who has died. In the video we see the guy be the one who pulls the girl out of her head so she can enjoy her life instead of just worrying about the future that hasn't arrived just yet. This may or may not be an accurate depiction of how their actual relationship was when the guy was still alive but regardless at some point before the graduation, the guy has died and the girl is left with the memory of him and their shared childhood while having to also face her future at the same time.
I think that she probably spends the days leading up to graduating reliving her childhood and ignoring the future in a way by going to places that they went to together and just playing. But the memory of the boy ends up eventually pushing the girl to remember how fun being alive is but that she does have to go back to reality and face her future. That it is okay to let him go because that just means that she can live enough for both of them and enjoy her life instead of being depressed and anxious about the future. It is hard to realize when you have reached a point in your life where you are suddenly older than your dead friend ever got to be, but they wouldn't want you to be a blurred-out and desaturated version of yourself simply because they are gone.
I like to believe that this means that even after graduating she doesn't see herself as losing her identity just because she grew up and that she has accepted that her friend is dead but still holds his memory close but in a way where his memory is a motivation for her to hold onto what makes her herself while making her way in the future. It's just sort of bittersweet because she is okay or at least going to be okay but she is allowed to accept her friend's death.
Sorry for the long post but this idea has been just building up in my head and I wanted to share in case there are other people who have gone through similar things. It's okay to be sad and scared. But please keep moving forward in your life for them. I promise that you aren't betraying them in any way by doing so. You are still yourself and that's more than enough

Why the heck am I crying even though I did not understand the MV? It's feels my heart and tears has an auto switch to let these emotions flow.
I reckon he's an imaginary friend, and she doesn't want to grow up. At the begging, he's suggesting for her to go on a date, to do the things other kids her age do to have some fun, as the things she used to love rot away with age. She clings on to him, trying to stay a child, but slipping into 'The Town of Jade' more and more as she does. Eventually, she realises she has a chance to make new friends, and to change things that may have happened before to make her cling onto an imaginary one so much. This is when he dissapears, as she realises as much as she wanted to stay with him, they have to separate, or he'll end up 'shooting her' under the guise of flowers.

My theory:
A hero and a villainess are reborn into a new and peaceful life after one that had been filled with strife. Neither of them remember who they had been or what had happened but they feel tied to each other with a sort of destiny they can't explain. The villainess ended the world in her previous life, the hero failing to stop her. The heros brokenness over what happens and his inability to save anyone follows him. Her emptiness at what she did and how it didn't stop her pain or make anything better follows her into her life.
The girl, still filled with a pain and desire to be rid of this world she can't understand, is never able to find a goal in life or to connect with the people around her. Without any danger in their relationship or any ability to actually destroy the world again like she could as her past self, the girl just sort of floats along listlessly through life wishing she could make the whole world stop just to end her own pain. She knows no real future is ahead of someone like her.
The boy, the hero, tries to help her and save her. He tries to make her feel safe, to brighten her world, since he doesn't have to fight anymore. Without a greater destiny anymore an ordinary life feels pretty stale to him. He latches onto the one thing that feels familiar: her. He can't save the world, its already at peace. He doesn't have anyone to fight, so he does the only thing he can and fights for the villainess instead. He can't make the world better now but he can try to make *her* world better.
The hero finds the Town Of Jade after he's drawn to it, a place that existed in their past lives as well. He decides to bring the villainess there for a beautiful day of playing just as kids. The villainess has grown to love the hero as the one person thats truly kind to her, the one person who brightens up the world around them.
She confesses all her feelings, about life, about her wants, even her love for him. The hero has come to understand the darkness in her during their time together just as she has come to understand his light. After giving her one beautiful happy day he does the one thing he's known he was destined to do since the start.
To stop her, to end her. He sees it now as the one way to make her pain stop, to make the world end for her the way she wants. He knows its awful but somehow it feels right, like the only way things could end for them.
As she dies, the villainess feels a flash of absolute joy as she remembers who they were and what she was, knowing now he did the right thing. Even though things are ending tragically, they got one last happy day, and they had gotten to live peaceful and beautiful life. Its going to end now before things ever get to sour again.
As she passes on to heaven she hopes they get to live another peaceful life like that again.

I've been listening to this song since Rachie's cover came out, and there's definitely a lot of interpretations. The first one is rather literal. The second one, where he's part of her imagination, either as coping mechanism to deal with death, or a refusal of growing up, or even her suicidal thoughts. But my current interpretation, is that it's a story of first love. How teenagers go out for the sake of pass time, fall in love for the first time, turning their world inside out, support each other, and break up, lose each other (in a sense), grow up, realizing they don't get to be together, feeling like the end of your first love is the end of everything.
Still somewhat similar to my interpretation at that time, but I now think she was sui c idal and her first boyfriend saved her! So when he 'pulled the trigger' on their relationship, he still have her a 'chance to do it all over again'
Am I the only one that thought it's about a girl and her imaginary friend? Probably the boy was her close friend but then killed himself. But then when she graduated she started to become an adult. That's why she couldn't be with her imaginary friend anymore.

I think what this song represents is a girl trying to hold on to her childhood, as she as things in her life are changing. The boy is her imagining of her innocents. She does everything to avoid losing her dreams and becoming just another pixelated adult. The boy shooting the gun in her face is her suddenly accepting herself and blooming in to her own kind of flower, and in the end she grieves her fading childhood.

That the girl and the boy use to be best friends,then the girls best friend went to the town of jade and while he was there he died and ever since then the girl felt lonly cause she realized that she had feelings for him so she had all of these memories of him and her and she would think of what would of happen if she went with him, if he didn't die so she got stuck in her own world ignoring everyone in her way she thinks of moving on but she can't so that's why it seems like she is falling cause she can't move on cause that was her 1st love, so in the 1st part of this video is the boy asking the girl of she would want to go to the town of jade with him, she says no and on last part of the video he is pointing the gun which means she wants to die so she can be with him but when he pulls the trigger a bullet dosent come out but a blue flower dose and that blue flower means he wants her to live and move on
