+Dominique Martinez I actually always pictured the song as his emotions trapping him. Like he tried chasing her in the past but failed so now he's more or less lost his hope and motivation. I see Lost Time Memory to be mostly a prequel to the chapter/episode in the manga/anime (haven't watched the anime so just got the manga to go by) Since in the end of the song he's left lying on his bed in defeat as if he hasn't slept in months and throughout the song its more or less about him being helpless to change anything so in the manga where he's forced to go outside, the events there allow him to drag himself out of his room, even if its just because he has no choice in the matter. If I recall correctly his eye ability was "Retaining Eyes" meaning he never forgets anything, which realistically if he never let anything distract him from Ayano's passing then he would more or less be reliving the feelings of helplessness and isolation he had, which is probably where the song gets confusing when compared to the manga, but I think they work better side by side rather than trying to tell the same story. Just my opinion though :\ dunno what everyone else thinks
I saw so many comments saying that people don't understand this story so for the future here's what's going on. Ayano died. There are two routes. Route xx and route 1. In Route xx shintaro can't accept ayano's death so he goes crazy. First he kills Ene and himself. On the other hand in Route 1 shintaro find some friends and eventually accepted ayano's death. Shintaro died by saving kuroha, don't know why because kuroha is bad. Shintaro from route xx and shintaro from route one both died on the same day and basically the same time. This part is really confusing because they both are shintaro just different routes, basically like another dimension. Remember ayano and how others have different types of powers? Yeah they all got that from the heat haze. They all died with someone but they were able to get out of the heat haze because they died with someone and the other person who died was stuck in the heat haze (a place where you're stuck in forever).
Anyways, ayano died by herself (that's a whole 'nother story to why she died). Ayano has powers but she is unable to get out of the heat haze since she died by herself. When both shintaros died they both saw ayano in the heat haze. Ayano gave her power to the shintaro from route one, who accepted her death. After she gave him her power, the shintaro from route xx, I don't know, it looks like everything went back to normal like he went back to his world. since ayano is stuck in the heat haze, shintaro from route one was able to get out of the heat haze and I think shintaro from route xx didn't remember anything and went back to his regular life. It's a whole complicated story. I knew these videos came out but to me it's still a little confusing.

Fun fact: I read that Sidu designed Shintaro's eyes the way she did to make him look more homely, like an actual person, but truth be told I think Shintaro's eyes are kinda hot haha. Also I love how Shintaro smiles at 2:16 lol. I think it's supposed to be a genuine smile but he's so socially awkward and/or depressed it looks almost psychotic. Reminds me of how I look when I try to smile and be social lol.

9 years ago i listened to this song so many times in middle school and highschool. It actually changed my life and i think it was just how profound and intense this song gets as it tells a story. I immediately had to watch where this song came from and never have i related so hard to a group of kids with powers

Shintarō is member No. 7 of Mekakushi Dan. He is the main protagonist of the story and has an IQ of 168. While he was in school, his intelligence caused him to have an apathetic personality. After a while, he became interested in the girl who sat next to him in class, Ayano Tateyama. Despite Ayano always being cheerful and friendly to him, Shintarō would treat Ayano with coldness. After Ayano's suicide, he becomes a hikikomori addicted to the internet. A year after, he was sent a mysterious virus named Ene, and as he was unable to control her actions, his lifestyle was at a loss. After stopping a terrorist attack with Ene, he became involved with Mekakushi Dan. He possesses the "Retaining Eyes", which allow him to remember all of the past (including the routes). His ability is shown in episode 8 of the anime adaptation. Ayano's death results in two possible routes for the Mekakushi Dan, as shown in Lost Time Memory. Ten years, ten years. If you compare this to one of her most recent covers, you can hear the difference. She has more confidence now in her singing. The old covers, and the new both sound beautiful, you can hear so much how she has improved.
The amount of emotion in this, in the lyrics, in everything... I always love these sorts of stories, ones where a protagonist has to learn how to deal with the deaths of loved ones in a healthy way. I don't know but these kinds of stories are always just so... emotional and real. And I feel like the very core of Kagerou Project IS the theme of dealing with death and not letting the death of a loved one destroy you forever.

I think this song-specifically this cover, was my first introduction to Kagepro. I wish I could remember what I thought was going on back then because it’d probably be funny to compare to what I know is actually happening. Anyway, this will likely be forever one of my absolute favorite Kagepro songs.

So here is my personal theory of the Heat Haze. -I think it's pretty close to what actually happened, but I'm too lazy to check the wiki.- When Shion and Marry were killed, Azami told her snakes to take the people who died on August fifteenth/fourteenth (perhaps they actually died near midnight so she wanted to be sure, or maybe Jin just thought that mixing fourteen and fifteen in the lyrics of Kagerou Daze sounded better) and bring them to the neverending world (Heat Haze). They did, but then they were like, no, only one of them can actually leave and we're trapping the other here. When they let Marry go, the queen snake chose to go with her, possessing Marry and giving her the Combining Eyes ability. The thing was, Azami only specified, "the people who died on August fifteenth/fourteenth." She didn't specify that it would be Marry and Shion. So the snakes were like, okay, let's bring lotsa people to the Haze. And with their queen gone, they chose to leave one at a time, in order to reunite with the queen. The reason that thousands of people aren't in possession of the snakes is that the snakes' entire goal was to reunite with the queen. They couldn't influence their hosts that strongly, to take some random dude who died in America all the way to Marry in Japan, especially if he was poor. They couldn't just pick anyone. So they only chose hosts who they could bring to the queen. My theories for the Haze's basic characteristics: - *The Haze continues over all the Routes.* Kido died with her sister in all Routes, meaning that she always had someone who would stay in the Haze while she escaped. The same applies for most of the characters. However, Shintaro did not. But Route-X Shintaro was there at the same time as Route-1 Shintaro. So the reason that Shintaro escaped was because he entered it in only two Routes, both times without another person. - *The Haze does not require that one person **_escapes,_** but rather that one person **_stays._* In the PV of Ayano's Theory of Happiness, it shows that Ayano saw the plans of her father to kill Takane and Haruka (or at least implies it). So she chose to commit suicide before he could, thereby taking an eye power. (Her failure to do so, of course, was because she had insufficient knowledge of the Heat Haze. I ignore the anime's version in this theory; I don't consider the anime canon.) Do you really think she waited a year after Takane and Haruka's deaths to commit suicide, or that her father had had it all planned a year before? No. So she stayed, while two people were allowed to escape instead of the usual one. - *When people enter the Haze in "sets" - Kano and his mother, for example - it requires that the people share an emotional bond.* Ayano, Haruka and Takane were friends. So were Hibiya and Hiyori (sort of). Marry and Shion, Momo and her father, Kano and his mom, were all child and parent. -Shintaro was himself.- Kido and her sister were siblings, Seto and his dog were friends, in a way. So if one dude in Australia dies at the same time as a dude in Africa and they don't know each other, then both of them will stay because no one they share a bond with died with them. Holy-- wow. Nope, the way people got into the haze was because Azami died protecting her family, so when she died she began the haze where her powers would be spread out. People don't die to get their power, someone else dies. People got into the haze because whenever someone was in a life or death situation with someone else, they would get into the haze, but while someone is in the haze with someone else in a life or death situation the Haze kills one person and gives the other person the eye power. So marry didnt die, but she got and eye power because when Sinon was protecting Mary, Sinon got into the haze with Azami and Mary got the eye power and lived, some other examples are Seto and his dog got sent into the haze the dog drowned and Seto got an eye power, Kido was stuck in a fire with her sister and her sister got her out of the fire but died. So basically the date of August 15/14th was just the date all the people with eye powers gathered together in their group.

It's heavily implied that while Hibiya was seeing an ever-repeating cycle of Hiyori dying, she too was seeing him die, again and again. Shintarō is member No. 7 of Mekakushi Dan. He is the main protagonist of the story and has an IQ of 168. While he was in school, his intelligence caused him to have an apathetic personality.
After a while, he became interested in the girl who sat next to him in class, Ayano Tateyama. Despite Ayano always being cheerful and friendly to him, Shintarō would treat Ayano with coldness. After Ayano's suicide, he becomes a hikikomori addicted to the internet. A year after, he was sent a mysterious virus named Ene, and as he was unable to control her actions, his lifestyle was at a loss. After stopping a terrorist attack with Ene, he became involved with Mekakushi Dan. He possesses the "Retaining Eyes", which allow him to remember all of the past (including the routes). His ability is shown in episode 8 of the anime adaptation.
Ayano's death results in two possible routes for the Mekakushi Dan, as shown in Lost Time Memory. In Route 1, also known as the Good End Route, Shintarō (often portrayed in a red jersey) goes out and meets the Mekakushi Dan instead of staying at home and mourning. In Route XX, also known as the Bad End, Shintarō (often portrayed in full black), still mourning over Ayano's death at 18 years old, becomes fed up with Ene and kills her through unknown means, causing him to have a mental breakdown. The Red Shintarō dies while saving Konoha from shooting himself, while the Black Shintarō commits suicide by slitting his throat with a pair of red scissors.

The amount of emotion in this, in the lyrics, in everything... I always love these sorts of stories, ones where a protagonist has to learn how to deal with the deaths of loved ones in a healthy way. I don't know but these kinds of stories are always just so... emotional and real. And I feel like the very core of Kagerou Project IS the theme of dealing with death and not letting the death of a loved one destroy you forever.
I can't help but tear up and sing along for the last chorus... This song strikes all of my feels.

So here is my personal theory of the Heat Haze. -I think it's pretty close to what actually happened, but I'm too lazy to check the wiki.-
When Shion and Marry were killed, Azami told her snakes to take the people who died on August fifteenth/fourteenth (perhaps they actually died near midnight so she wanted to be sure, or maybe Jin just thought that mixing fourteen and fifteen in the lyrics of Kagerou Daze sounded better) and bring them to the neverending world (Heat Haze). They did, but then they were like, no, only one of them can actually leave and we're trapping the other here. When they let Marry go, the queen snake chose to go with her, possessing Marry and giving her the Combining Eyes ability.
The thing was, Azami only specified, "the people who died on August fifteenth/fourteenth." She didn't specify that it would be Marry and Shion. So the snakes were like, okay, let's bring lotsa people to the Haze. And with their queen gone, they chose to leave one at a time, in order to reunite with the queen.
The reason that thousands of people aren't in possession of the snakes is that the snakes' entire goal was to reunite with the queen. They couldn't influence their hosts that strongly, to take some random dude who died in America all the way to Marry in Japan, especially if he was poor. They couldn't just pick anyone. So they only chose hosts who they could bring to the queen.
My theories for the Haze's basic characteristics:
- *The Haze continues over all the Routes.* Kido died with her sister in all Routes, meaning that she always had someone who would stay in the Haze while she escaped. The same applies for most of the characters. However, Shintaro did not. But Route-X Shintaro was there at the same time as Route-1 Shintaro. So the reason that Shintaro escaped was because he entered it in only two Routes, both times without another person.
- *The Haze does not require that one person **_escapes,_** but rather that one person **_stays._* In the PV of Ayano's Theory of Happiness, it shows that Ayano saw the plans of her father to kill Takane and Haruka (or at least implies it). So she chose to commit suicide before he could, thereby taking an eye power. (Her failure to do so, of course, was because she had insufficient knowledge of the Heat Haze. I ignore the anime's version in this theory; I don't consider the anime canon.) Do you really think she waited a year after Takane and Haruka's deaths to commit suicide, or that her father had had it all planned a year before? No. So she stayed, while two people were allowed to escape instead of the usual one.
- *When people enter the Haze in "sets" - Kano and his mother, for example - it requires that the people share an emotional bond.* Ayano, Haruka and Takane were friends. So were Hibiya and Hiyori (sort of). Marry and Shion, Momo and her father, Kano and his mom, were all child and parent. -Shintaro was himself.- Kido and her sister were siblings, Seto and his dog were friends, in a way. So if one dude in Australia dies at the same time as a dude in Africa and they don't know each other, then both of them will stay because no one they share a bond with died with them.

Nope, the way people got into the haze was because Azami died protecting her family, so when she died she began the haze where her powers would be spread out. People don't die to get their power, someone else dies. People got into the haze because whenever someone was in a life or death situation with someone else, they would get into the haze, but while someone is in the haze with someone else in a life or death situation the Haze kills one person and gives the other person the eye power. So marry didnt die, but she got and eye power because when Sinon was protecting Mary, Sinon got into the haze with Azami and Mary got the eye power and lived, some other examples are Seto and his dog got sent into the haze the dog drowned and Seto got an eye power, Kido was stuck in a fire with her sister and her sister got her out of the fire but died. So basically the date of August 15/14th was just the date all the people with eye powers gathered together in their group.

Well, the reason that I put both people dying was because of Heat Haze Daze. It's heavily implied that while Hibiya was seeing an ever-repeating cycle of Hiyori dying, she too was seeing him die, again and again. And while the anime states that the characters were involved in life-or-death situations, it should _also_ be taken into account that the people who leave the Haze do not seem to remember their time in it.
-If it's the date that they all gathered, then how would Hibiya join? Wasn't it at least a day after the fifteenth that he joined? Sorry if I'm being a bother qnq-
