I watched this video when it first came out, and I am now revisiting it as we begin our bird unit. I am borrowing so many of your gorgeous activity ideas.
Second comment going through this video but I just have to say that this is so inspiring. I love the curriculum that we use but I am a very creative person and have been adding units for a long time but didn’t really know exactly what I was doing. One of my children has recently become infatuated with birds and my knowledge on them just is not adequate so my confidence wasn’t the highest on how to tackle this. Seeing all of these books and how you used them is so helpful for me. I’ve got preschool, kindergarten and first graders so this is just so tremendously helpful for me. I know this is an older video but at the half way point it has already helped me so much and I wanted you to know that you are making a truly positive difference in the lives of other homeschool families. Thank you thank you thank you.
Thank you so much Hayley! I truly appreciate your message. I hope you have an amazing bird unit, and by the end of it I'm sure your kiddos will learn so much.
When you mentioned the Robins book in your last video I immediately checked it out from my library (even though we are not studying birds at the moment) My six year old loved it so much and read it cover to cover to her 4 month old baby brother!
We read “ Outside the Window “ in the morning before we start our work. The kids love it. I prefer Botanicum over Animalium. I also place them for display. I fall into the same problem. I find those books with a lot of a little bit of information a bit overwhelming. I prefer to have books dedicated specifically to the topic we are covering.
Love all your videos ,Hana. Love the books you recommend and the projects you do .I don't homeschool but I am trying to do partial homeschooling kind of thing. And I especially love that you make it a point to show the inside of all the books..thats really helpful..as you know ,one does not want to invest in a book that won't be used much. Jazakillah khairan. You are an inspiration. Keep the videos coming if you can ,Hana. Don't be sad or discouraged because of some sly or snide comments....there are much more of us who is inspired by your videos and adapt what you show to suit our particular situation. A thousand thank yous for all the videos and blogs you have done until now. Do whatever works for you though. If you want a break please do take it. Be you.You are awesome.Mashallah. May Allah bless you amd your family for all the good you have been doing.Ameen.
I totally understand what you mean about the more encyclopedia type of books. I always loved these kind of books but at the same time you have made me aware that they don't really provide in depth information about one topic, rather a bit of information about everything. The Waldorf approach of bringing information within a story and with real attention is something I never really thought about before watching your video's. I think I would use both types of books however, like you do, because I just love books! And also I remember myself flipping through and reading through these encyclopedia type of books as a child, and I always loved to absorb a lot of tidbits (is that the correct word?). Do your children like to look through these books on their own? Maybe it can function as a way of reviewing learned information.

Beautiful. Can i ask how you use the books? Do you read all the books first to your kids then do projects and activities??
Wow, well done. Do you write curriculum?
Hi Hannah. Would you use sculpey clay to make different birds eggs and paint them?
How did you clean the nest and try to preserve it?
Your son has very nice handwriting btw
