It took me 13 painful years of self teaching, books, videos and online lessons to learn this. After which, I realised that many instructors didn't really know what they were talking about. They knew the positions and what not, but they couldn't teach the simplicity of what it is you are trying to do in the swing, which would fix 90% of most peoples problems. I envision that I have a slack rope with a stone attached to the end, and I'm slinging it out into the course with both hands. I feel like I'm pressuring the handle right from the top, and the more I exaggerate it, the further it goes. You can generate unbelievable speed this way. Mike Austin and Jack Nicklaus both said that they were adding power right from the top, and I never understood it until I got what you are talking about here, then it all made sense. EDIT: I should add, that the statement gets thrown around a lot, but you are one of the best UA-cam instructors out there and should have far more subs than you do.
An essential fundamental - nicely illustrated and explained - 90% of the golf instructions on UA-cam are rubbish - they should have video ratings - this tip gets 5 out of 5 stars.
I played with EA last week and he can really pound his driver. His driver is as good or better than 75 percent of the Champions Tour players. A good 280-300, pretty straight also. Very competitive golfer in his own right who I expect to do very well as player and coach in the future.
I’m not doubting the premise, it works, but where did Ben Hogan refer to a release from the top? In the WWOG video he says ‘then you release at the bottom’.
Hogan said a lot of different things over the years and to different people for different effects. Hogan believed there was an ideal and that individuals needed to adapt and adjust for their own specific needs. In the WWOG Hogan was addressing the masses, and IMO was showing them something he believed they should all do to improve, but it wasn't the whole truth. As Hogan continued to master his technqiue he felt he could release it harder and harder from the top without hooking it. As the video states, the body needed to be doing its job as well. And in the WWOG video he was showing what the body needed to do to have a strong enough action that the golfer could release it harder and harder. Hogan also said you need to learn to hook it before you could be a good player. I have a friend that met Hogan and Hogan personally showed him what he meant by releasing it from the top. My friend hooked it for years. If Hogan gave him a follow-up lesson I believe he would have told him how to better use his body. Hogan choose to give him the arm swing hooking it first approach.

fantastic lesson
how far do you drive the ball? it looks like you are hitting the ball with tremendous speed. The sound is incredible.

eagolfpro Thanks for your reply. What did he say to your friend?
Hogan’s clubs were made open and 2 deg flat so he could release fully without hooking
