Wow that was fun, they really knew how to have fun back then. The machines and the characters were very well built and it shows as they're still running a 100 + years later. Thank you Jacob. x
Being a native San Franciscan...still live here, I remember the collection in the Cliff House "basement"...love all this old stuff...have my own home museum...been collecting for years!
I have watched every video I can find about this place and it is on my bucket list. I am obsessed with automatons, the older the better. They are to me what wax figures are to TCB. Thanks for this.
Thanks to this video, I finally remembered where this museum is (I watch it featured in a travel show and all this time I thought it is on Britain, not San Fransisco). Also, in the show I watched, it is explained that those creepy animatronic about bad habits (the hanging, opium den and cemetery) are meant as the old days' PSA system to teach young kids and adolescents to not take drugs, drunk and also showing the possible outcome of crime, which is execution.
How charming! You know I remember, as a child, when some of these or similar used to be set in a wall at Chessington zoo, UK...I always used to be fascinated by them, you put your penny in and watched as the devil came out of the grave and the executioner chopped off heads...I remember going one year and they had removed them and I was so sad. Its wonderful to see them in action! Thankyou Jacob and thankyou to the lucky owner of all these magical machines.
I miss the Camera Obscura and hologram museum, it gave me kind of an eerie feeling and the upside down view was so perfect, I should find out if it's still around anywhere, but Cliffhouse was the best!
@@muzluv33 I have no idea, I thought it disappeared because I haven't heard about it since the Cliffhouse days, guess it went to the Wharf (?) I'll just look it up, thanks!
Your silliness and sense of humor are great.. it's nice to know that others are like me.. Peter Pan Syndrome. NEVER GROW OLD. I admire the fact that you get to be a child again and live vicariously through your adventures God bless you and your family. Safe travels wherever you may go..
My dad hasn't been to Musee Mecanique since he was a kid. Playland At The Beach was in The City By The Bay in the old days. 👍🏻 if The Princess Diaries brought you here.
We had a Peppy the Clown at my local arcade: Nunley's Carousel in Baldwin, NY. He was a dime then (1960s). There was also one in our W.T Grant's store in Freeport. You could probably get one on EBay.
lol... someone crocheted little bitty shirts for the football players :) good job Jacob yesterday in Tenn. Today back in CA ... you are as Gus said on Lonesome Dove .. One travelin' SOB!
That big carnival machine near the start of the video used to work, and when it did, it was grand. It was the star of the show in the building. Maybe the guys who own the Musee were having too hard of a time keeping it running. There are a lot more machines in there than Jacob was able to show.
I just found your channel and I am loving it! You are living my dream job! Thank you for all you do and for bringing us all this awesome stuff! I love your sense of humor, especially your HISSING sounds! Cant get enough 💖💖💖💖 have a great day and bless you and your family.
Aw, CB! I should go to SF more often, seeing as I'm literally just across the Bridge from where u were. I missed u again! Someday I'll have the opportunity to shake the hand of the man who's been entertaining me this past couple of yrs w/all these goofy videos! I took my son to Musee Mecanique back when it was under the Cliffhouse @ Ocean Beach, & have been to it @ this location once as well. So much attention to detail put into the creation of those arcade games & attractions. W/each new generation, tho, there are less & less ppl possessing the knowledge/skill for maintenance/upkeep when some wee part crucial to function breaks, requiring fabrication & replacement. Imagine how colorful everything must have been back when all the little wooden & plaster characters were new! I've always loved that piano; I'm a sucker for anything that makes music. I luv Sal, of course, too, even tho she's kind of scary.
Oh cool, glad you found this place, I forgot the name and haven't been since it was under Cliffhouse. I wish Sutro baths still existed, that place was insane, damn!
This one is my home town penny arcade, so it's fun to see you visit a place I actually already know of and have been to before. Also laughing at 2:04 because I for sure 100% remembered being the exact same way when I came across that machine. Oh man whats going to happen? OH MAN.... WIND! Truly, what a twist. lol
Glad you finally made it up to my neck of the woods! I'd like to think you read the suggestion I made in a previous live chat but most likely just found it on your own lol. My dad went to Playland at The Beach in the 1950's where a lot of those machines come from.
I wonder if the owner of this place and the late Marvin Yagoda knew each other. In spite of how cheesy some of those exhibits are by today's standards, I really like the old amusements best, when you think of all of the work that went into making those amusements and that some were made over 100 years ago, they are truly impressive.
I actually like really old vintage animatronics. They don't do much but the design of them is unique. Also their robotics show how far we have come in technology. :)
Hey Jacob,Been under the weather so I'm a little late to the party. What a unique and weird Muee. In your Caleeeforneeya videos so far, this one is really different.Great video, not that the others aren't.....................
Fun fact: this place was featured in the Princess Diaries (movie not book). Mia's grandma actually beat the arm wrestler! I bet I'm not the only person who saw it there and was super impressed to find out that it was a real place.
San Fransisco has such cool, hidden jems. However, if you go through the San Juaquin Valley, You should check out the Atwater Air Museum. They have a ton of planes, new and old, as well as a small aeronautics museum. Also, on the way tjere's a place called Casa De Fruta which is a fun road side attraction.
You always find the coolest stuff Bagger! Definitely deserve more subscriber's and views than you get! I didn't know what to expect with this video, I don't know much about the old coin operated animatronics at all.... Although I think they are insanely cool to look at! This museum should have plaques by each machine to give a brief description of the make, model, interesting facts, and date of creation, to help people like me out. Hmmmm maybe Carpet Bagger could edit in things like this on future videos?
Its so refreshing to see things like this, things when times were simple. No cell phones, crazy computerized vid games, no internet, etc....😊
God laughing Jack sounds nightmarish but the rest of these things put a huge smile on my face
Love these old machines even though some are quite creepy. Always fascinating to see items from the past like these in such amazing working condition.
Wow that was fun, they really knew how to have fun back then. The machines and the characters were very well built and it shows as they're still running a 100 + years later. Thank you Jacob. x

I LOVE that museum!!
It was creepy cool.
Thank you Jacob for taking me to places i can't go to, that was amazing 😁
I have watched every video I can find about this place and it is on my bucket list. I am obsessed with automatons, the older the better. They are to me what wax figures are to TCB. Thanks for this.
Can you imagine the man-hours combined in the sum of the creation of those mechanicals? It must be something like 50 years.
It’s ludicrous
A Blazing Saddles mechanical re-enactment 👍🏻

Jmmy you good Friday 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉

This used to be under the Cliffhouse and my Mom took me here my whole childhood.

Pretty cool old machines! I could here Mrs. Pac Man in the background.

OMG lol your face on the arm wrestling machine was hilarious. Another great video Jacob!!
I enjoyed the hell out of that....thank you!! I LOVE all the old arcade videos you make.
Went to Musee Mecanique in October. Very unusual and cool place.
Watching a local channel that highlighted this wonderful place...💓...wish I knew about it when I visited few years ago...
That big carnival machine near the start of the video used to work, and when it did, it was grand. It was the star of the show in the building. Maybe the guys who own the Musee were having too hard of a time keeping it running. There are a lot more machines in there than Jacob was able to show.
I haven't been here in years! Thanks for making this video!
A neat collection of machines
I'm so glad this place didn't burn today!

Did anyone else hear that Reggae cover of Billie Jean at the beginning?
@Eric P bro calm down

What a magical place. Would like to go there myself.
Skeeball!!! Has been and always will be one of my favorite games!

I was thinking about what that must feel like, lol!
What an amazing collection....great find 👍
I like it when at "Harry's Hash House" the sign above the dog says "El Stinko" sounds like a sigar i smoked...
Great Place ! Pretty Quirky but is good history ! Thanks Jacob ! ! ! !
I actually like really old vintage animatronics. They don't do much but the design of them is unique. Also their robotics show how far we have come in technology. :)

Fun !! A neat and different experience. Enjoyed it 👍
Nice. Wish you could've met the famous Bush man of pier 39. He passed away years ago. Nice video as always. 👍

Some of the attractions were originally at Playland At The Beach.

🐵 Groovy, Man!
My favorite was the Native American Buffalo. And the carnival.

I remember the one by Cliff House Restaurant.
I would love to visit!
🤔Why do I keep seeing my childhood in museums? I'm not even an senior citizen yet!!!😲
