Just strolling around the UA-cam and saw you Michael. This is your ol' bud Doug up in Green Bay, WI. I saw the song you were doing and there was NO hesitation whatsoever to listen to one of my favorite John Lennon songs. There is no flaws when I listen to your final takes Michael. You bring me right back to 1964. Thank you and God Bless. Give us some more.

I like my Beatles covers like I enjoy my steak….Well Done And that was well done and quite tasty. I’ve been listening to this song since it’s release on the Something New Album on Capitol records in the 60’s Great Song and Great Job👍
Yes! You nailed it. Enjoyed watching/listening very much. Had to sing along, hope that was OK. Glad you appreciate this oft-overlooked gem from the album. This song is one more reason this could be my favorite album of all. Definitely my favorite to play along with. They really hit their stride here. First album they recorded on 4 track. George Martin could really shine now.
I've been playing this album a lot lately around the kids. The other day the 10-year-old was around while I was listening to your version of this and she started singing along. (proud father!)
It’s apparent from watching a lot of videos over the years that getting a George Harrison 64 sound requires more than just buying a 330 12. Just plugging it in gets you only 40% of the way there. You’ve got the tone, the level and the playing style just right. What a wonderful sound. Well done for adding in the nylon string which a lot of people seem to ignore when they cover this. It give it a totally different sound. As always, this was really enjoyable Michael. If you ever sit at home working on these wondering if it’s worth the hard work you put in, just read the comments on your videos to remind yourself that there are a LOT of people who love your stuff. 😀
It's a 360 V64 12-string or a 360 C63 12 string, the reissue that replaced the 360 V64 after about 2001. They have the features of Harrison's original: double-bound body, toaster top pickups, trapeze tailpiece, ingenious headstock design. The guy who wrote about adding compression is absolutely right! Makes it really jangle and sizzle. Lower levels are more of a Beatles timbre and the more you add the closer it gets to sound like the Byrds. McGuinn's signature Ric 12 had some with a built-in compressor. Indispensable!
@@MichaelSokili know you probably use your compression after the fact and not a pedal but a pedal is all i can get. what ratio do you use on your compression
Really enjoyed this and great job. No live version of this great song by the Beatles to my knowledge anyway, so this was an especially nice treat to see.

Can't wait to see you play I'm Happy Just to Dance with You again!. Perfect as always this one
@Nathan Geiling I’ve only just started studying it, but my gut says it’s the Country Gent. It’s tough to hear much of it behind John’s rhythm but I don’t hear any 12-string octaves in there.
Things I give you extra credit for on this one: 1. Nice catch on the two bass guitars and the additional nylon-string guitar. I have listened to this song unknown number of times since 1964 and never heard that. 2. You get a bit of the "John Lennon bounce" going while playing rhythm. Shows you are getting into it.
You’ve got the all toys and know how to make all the noise! Excellent cover and demonstration of the parts that, I never knew were so complex - until now! I was especially taken with the guitar interaction and dialogue, as well as with the tone that you achieved for all the string instruments. Cheers 🥂
I love it too, it's a ridiculously good sounding guitar. I almost want to buy a Strat and IMMEDIATELY cover "Ticket to Ride," but I'll be patient haha.
Doubling the piano with a bassline seems to be a "Hard Day's Night" quirk! It appears here, and in the solo for the title track. Paul and George Martin must've conspired to thicken up the piano a little.
I just missed the nylon string guitar playing the second part of the solo. It's very prominent in this song, much more than the Gibson, which I even doubt if they used it at all in this track. But anyway.. what a great video, 5 stars.
This one really has got some drive to it. Apologies if you've told us before but I wondered what your order of battle was Mike. If I didn't know better I'd have thought you'd start with John's rhythm and then the drums, then bass, then any feature work. I'd have thought that the rhythm is a guide track to the rest and it seems you don't have headphones either, although there's those earbud things.
So I am wearing earbuds! They're sneaky and hidden behind my hair, but they're there. And my process always starts with layering guitars onto the Beatles' original version of the song, which is what I'm listening to when I record. So my "backing track" is always the Beatles version with a count-in slapped on the top. My routine lately has been guitars first, then bass and drums a bit later. Most of the time, I record a rough version of the guitar tracks and re-record additional takes of things I don't like or need improvement. A good example is "A Taste of Honey," which is a second attempt. I also remember trying a few different versions of the guitar solos on "The End." Bass and drums I usually do at the same time, and rarely require any re-recording. "Something" is the only time I went back and redid the drums, which I actually did twice! For all instruments, I almost always need 7-10 takes before I get something I really like, then I typically just use that last best take in the final mix.
This was fantastic, made me appreciate the song even more. Didn't realise that they used a classical guitar to fill out the sound at certain points. Awesome job, thanks for doing these for us all! Quick question about your process - are you using audacity to record the multi-track audio?
Thanks for the kind words! Yes, I put together the tracks and mix in Audacity. For the raw recording, I record through an interface, the Presonus 1824C console. So I record in StudioOne and add the plug-ins there, then I import the tracks into Audacity.
@@MichaelSokil Thanks for that insight, I was wondering at what point you applied the plug-ins and how it all worked, so now I understand. Really interesting to know thank you :-)
Only thing i would do different is mic the kick drum a bit more. Ringo's foot was like a sledge hammer when he got going ... everything else is three thumbs up !! 😁👍👍👍
Fixed! Lucero LC1505 Classical Guitar. I considered splurging for an authentic Ramirez reissue of the Harrison model, but my god they're expensive. Got the look and the sound at 1/12 the price!

@@MichaelSokil I can imagine, funny thing back then i think it wasnt even one of the top models back then. "José Ramírez III, manager of the guitar shop at the time, stated that these ‘tools for rondalla’ (what it said on George's guitar label) used to be constructed outside of his workshop or were prototypes made there by apprentices, as experiments, etc. Therefore they were labeled that way in order to sell them at the shop"

Great original by the Beatles and your re-creation is great also! Yours is one of my favorite UA-cam channels.

0:38 - George would later reuse the lick and make a whole different song out of it - Fish On The Sand

Must be a prodigy. Not many people can play so many instruments. How old were you when you started??
I always thought Paul played the Piano (sources credit him) on this but you said it was George Martin. Who knows maybes its both of them on Piano
I'm agnostic here, it could be Paul!
