Watching Pistol Pete handle the ball is like poetry in motion. He's like the white version of one of the Harlem Globetrotters. Not only was his ball handling beyond words. But, his ability to pass or score was unbelievable. He could've played in this modern era scoring on even Lebron James. And, that's saying something.
“He was unstoppable. It’s as if they had melted down all 12 Harlem Globetrotters and then filled up this skinny 6-6 white frame with everything they had.” -RALPH WILEY, SPORTSWRITER
People talking about his dribble but this man’s jumper was more crispy then my grandma’s best homemade chicken nuggets. Imagine him if he could have added the step back
We can only imagine what Pete could have done if he had played with today's liberal ball handling "rules" but we do know that the Pistol was at least the greatest ball handler of his era if not the greatest ball handler ever.
@@67Plushhe can be the best if only he played today and learned from watching iverson, isiah, anderson, jwill, kyrie...but alas hes the one who started modernizing the dribbling
More Pete content, it's so hard to find the content of arguably the most skilled player of all time. I don't understand why the NBA won't open its vault and give us a proper Pistol Pete mix. To celebrate the 75th Anniversary Team we should get proper 20+ minute mixes of all the players on that list. But as far as Pete it's the same content. I don't understand why nobody has more robust footage of him considering at the time he set a record for being the highest-paid player, was a perennial all-star, and arguably the most exciting player of his era sans Dr.J, IMO. Pete was basically a Globetrotter but used his skills to the effect of averaging 44 ppg in college. Then they thought it was a fluke until he came into the NBA lighting it up to the tune of averaging 24 points, 5.4 dimes, and 4.2 boards per game for his career. Those are mirrors of Kobe's career numbers(25.0, 4.7, 5.2). That's how skilled he was in the '70s. He was basically the White Mamba only he never got a chance to play with an all-time great Center like Shaq. Imagine Pete playing with Kareem in the '70s in LA?
Of course… "Pete was 'The Man.' I'd just sit there and shake my head and say to myself: 'How'd he do that?' Through following basketball and enjoying his flair for the game, I feel as though I knew him. He was a great scorer and a great passer at the same time. The passes he made were unbelievable. He was so ahead of his time." -Magic Johnson Not only Magic though, just a crazy amount of players (Magic speaks right at the beginning too): ua-cam.com/video/gfWkiO2Iz08/v-deo.html
Too bad he had to retire just when he and Bird came together. If they had played together for a few years, what a show that would've been. Plus the "Pistol" would have a couple of rings.
It’s an overlooked skill in today’s basketball. So many people put emphasis on scoring. Ball handling skills with the NBA defense (lack of) in today’s game, Pistol would be a nightmare for the Lebron’s and Curry’s. One player can’t carry an entire team. Pistol would pass the ball off at any second to the other 4 guys out on the floor with him.
Of the very best players, only 5% will work these drills. Of this 5%, only 5% will perfect them. It takes an extraordinary individual who has a burning desire to become their imagination.
Congratulations to Pete Maravich on being named to the NBA 75th Anniversary Team!
he should lol he the pioneer of all modern pgs
Pete would have love playing in todays era, no one's calling carry and travel now. He'd be a god.
he did this all without carrying too
Pistol plays on another level. First pick on NBA elite team.
Man his handles were cold!

Oh, and the Globetrotters offered him a million dollar contract during Pete's senior year to play with them.
I love the stutter dribble!

Or if the 3-point line existed. He’d have wayyyy more career points.

@@spazniik_gaming3356 thats because he played in an Era where ball handling like this wasn't common he basically started it
@@spazniik_gaming3356 you weren’t allowed to palm or carry by the side
Not really, pretty much 90% of guards have handles as good if not better
Nowhere near the best ever lol
We can respect a pioneer without hyperbole smh

Great video for Pete & great to see you back!
Thanks, appreciate it!
My guy was smooooooooth with the rock
To add the experience of watching this video
Remember that there's nobody that have that type of handle before him
Damn he was really that nigga
wigga*
Scored 68 against the knicks without the 3 pointer in play yet.
If it was, he would have scored 100..
He would have had more had he not fouled out.
Yes that's a "white" man but he sure was "black" on that court 😆😆😆 RIP to a legend
Folks lighten up just a lil humor.

YES THAT WOULD BE AWESOME!! (Nba releasing 20+ minute highlight reels of EACH member of the 75)
Was Magic Johnson inspired by Pistol Pete ?

8:49 was great
The goat
Watching Pete Maravich makes todays NBA make them look like waiters out there
Thank you!!!!!
his crossovers look modern wtf
I just tried the drill under the legs catching behind your back ....i hit my nuts game over
I love the straight up dagger pull up 15 footers off the dribble... swish
Completely unstoppable if hes playing today when you can carry and palm the ball
Pistol had fun,
True power dribble and having the ball on a string. Effective dribbling not flashy dribbling
If you had a shamgod and that stutter dribble the n your pocket you would demolish people
What is the purpose of your comment?
He's saying if somebody had both of those in their bag today, that'd be all they need to to be effective.
4:35.
Pistol Pete…back when there was no palming or carrying like today.
I ENJOY THE SHOW ON THE NBA TV GO #HANDLES
my addidas....
Hmm Austin Reaves plays a lot like bruh
WTF!
