In this chapter we talk about a type of aquarium that was introduced by Takashi Amano in the 80s, the Iwagumi style.
The Iwagumi style is a decorative trend for freshwater aquariums originating in Japan.
It was initially used to decorate the gardens and interiors of Buddhist temples.
From 1980 Takashi Amano began to base the decorations of his planted aquariums on this philosophy of interpreting nature.
The translation of Iwagumi in Japanese means rock formation, and in this style of aquarium the rocks are the protagonists.
Aquascaping in general was developed in Japan in the 80s and 90s, where landscapes with plants, logs and natural rocks began to be developed.
From the year 2000, the Nature Aquarium concept also appeared with logs and plants such as Eleocharis vivipara, which Takashi Amano began to use regularly in his setups.
Iwagumi in Japanese means rock formation and these are aquariums with rocks as the main protagonist.
