He played a small town rodeo in Ft. Stockton, Texas back in the eighties. After the rodeo they packed down the ground in one corner of the arena for a little dance floor and that’s where he played, and we all danced within a couple of feet of him. Gosh those were good days! He never succumbed to the crap they call country music these days.
He use to sing this in his bar room shows before he even had a recording contract. He sang all over Texas and I got to see him twice before he became a star. Good thing because I sure couldn't afford to see him now. I wanted to see his last show in Dallas but tickets were from $5000 up to $25000 each. First time I saw him in Corpus it cost me $5 at the door. Still great though.
Garrett Woolf here from Bakersfield California and that was written by Audrey Grisham and Russ hull and Mary jean Shultz and Blaine Smith and it was covered by Webb pierce In September 1953
Nobody does this better than the original, but this song is great whoever sings it. Webb Pierce was the O.G, and still my favorite. Support independent musicians! We need your support!!! Peace. 🐰💙🇺🇸🗽🎸🎶✌️
When George sings this “Ballad” I LOVE how the music gets real loud and George starts singing and it feels like he’s leading the charge! WOW I just love it… BEST SONG EVER!! ♥️♥️
You people are looking at man who holds the record of best musician EVER!!! Its astounding his amount of gold, platinum albums and his ability to chart. You get yourself a top 10 hit every fn year for 30 years. Never be stopped
He will always be the best - such a huge talent. An outstanding role model for his choosing clean lyrics, great arrangements, delivery. that voice is incomparable. Good husband and dad. George Strait, you are the best!
I'm surprised George Strait never recorded his version of this song and put it on an album. He actually used to play this song at his shows quite a bit.
Love this song and his live version of this song!!! I wish he would record it for an album. He is the King of Country Music!!! Thanks for posting this video. Love it!!!
Yes. A extraordinary singer - but it certainly doesn’t hurt that he’s easy on the eyes .... STILL!! If I could find a nightclub that still played these GREAT country songs, I’d go out & FIND me a dancing partner!!
I have seen his performance of this song a couple of times and this is the first time I have seen a quality recording of it. Sure, wish he would have released it.
I'm 67 year old used to run Texas in love to hear George Strait on AM radio this is real country sorry you don't remember it sorry, excuse me that saying that you didn't remember them but you can hear it now
@MrDemonface123 I think both artists do it their seperate ways; Webb Pierce has the early sixties Nashville sound and George Strait's Texas sound. Both do a great job on this song, and it makes the song slightly more relevant to those who don't necessarily like the 60's Nashville sound. But in the end, both this and Webb's version are truly country songs, unlike songs today called Country Music.

A great honky tonk song, sung by the greatest Country singer.
This first time hear this song. George all King of Country Music. Pure country music sound. Why enjoy his music though years. Two thumbs up.
julie brtek Conway, George, Merle and Hank are gone so he might be king now but Gene Watson is still kicking so uhm... maybe not yet 😎😉
This is a Webb Pierce song from the 50's just to let you know
The ultimate performer for the last 35 years.
We saw him at Gruene Hall back in ‘82,
We danced right by him on the stage,
And it was $1 beer night! Lol
Aww, the good ol’ days
Ps Yee-Haw!🤠
He showed up at Gruene a few years back. Just walked in and started playing for people. Wish I had been there.
Dollar beer in 82?! That was highway robbery, I turned 21 in 91 and most bottles then were .50-1.00.
@George Strait Since the early 80's.
@George Strait Iowa, yep.
Pure country gold, both the song and the performer.
He will always be the best - such a huge talent. An outstanding role model for his choosing clean lyrics, great arrangements, delivery. that voice is incomparable. Good husband and dad. George Strait, you are the best!

GOD BLESS YOU GEORGE I MISS YOU IAM REALLY WORRIED ABOUT YOU ..😢😢😢😢😭😭😥😥💋💋💋💋💋💋❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I watched the ACM Awards tonight. This I came to hear some real music especially George Strait!
I'm surprised George Strait never recorded his version of this song and put it on an album. He actually used to play this song at his shows quite a bit.
LOVE YOU GEORGE..
That's because he knows no one can sing this song like Johnny Bush.
@@austinteutsch you mean Webb Pierce?
@@jaidendeprez1842 No, I mean Johnny Bush. He is a true country singer deluxe. Another great version is by Jack Greene.
@@austinteutsch Those are great! Compare with Ted Hawkins-- his version is unique and bone-chilling.
george is best ever
Wow, George knocked this one out of the park!!! Great song and great performance! Thank you for posting!
HE represents South Texas thank you!
George Strait did it rite!
I saw him and Tanya Tucker in a small rodeo arena in Ada, OK 1986! Great concert!!

George does a great dance-hall, swing version of this one!
Webb Pierce made the first hit recording of this song, but the style was very different.
George, Bobby, Gary-and him. Stupendous
I love those old timers also but the fact is George Strait is about the last hope for traditional (as I know it) country music.
Love this song!!
This Man! This Song!! Just melts me, love it!!!
Wow!!!! I had never seen this................awesome!!! What can I say Texas does great things and George Strait is an example of just that!!

Absolutely great cover of a Webb Peirce song
THIS IS MY NEW FAVORITE SONG FROM GEORGE!!
Crushed it
Here from Sam Hunt's Hard To Forget but this original is actually so good!
I like that song.... but I don't like how they used "there stands the glass" within it.
REAL....Country!...For all you...uh..'wannabe's.' THIS!...is what it sounds like...!
I love 💘 you george
I love how you sing this song.. your body moves so good to it ❤️💋💋
King George
Happy birthday george
Loved Johnny Bush version but George's is good as well.
Michael .Konvicka George’s version is better
@@hudsonwright6506I'll disagree with ya. Johnny Bush has the best version of this song
Yes, but he will never beat the man that first sang that song. The late great Johnny Bush. Nobody could match him for that song and for Whiskey River.
Eres el mejor George
my aunt Louise passed away on first day of spring this song came from Conway Twitty please all prayers I have never posted anything before

Sam Hunt brought this golden masterpiece back to modern day relevancy
And fuckin ruined a classic song in the process
@@bub927 how did he ruin it if the original song still exists lol just go listen to the original
I love you
❤❤❤❤
Unbelievable phrasing...
