    You never mention how long you left them in. I've seen other videos or instructions about using acetone that say you must rinse them afterwards with distilled water, is that not necessary?

      @@ryushogun9890 acetone is basically a rinse itself does NOT rinsed off with distilled water (although it won’t hurt it)
      However if you Dip a coin in jewelry luster or coin dip like E-Z-EST then yes you’ll have follow up with distilled water rinse … I prefer to dip only coins that truly need a Dipping in E-Z-EST I only dip my coins for 10 seconds!!! Don’t leave it in there long (I dilute my mixture 2 parts distilled water and 1 part E-Z-EST 2:1 ratio) then I dunk the coin in cool distilled water then last rinse is warm distilled water (warm water help evaporate faster) then place the coin on paper towel press dry (do not rub paper towel on coin it will scratch it and leave hairlines on it) … however some collectors highly condemn coin dipping then I can show thousands of Morgan dollars in high grades worth $3,000 to $10,000 BLAST WHITE ! that coin had to of been dipped … like I said some coins benefit from dipping while other don’t it has be done by someone with a lot of experience

      I've cleaned coins in that way and sent them in the PCGS and they were graded they didn't come back saying they were clean. It's the only way that I know that preserves the coin.

      @don951 4 роки тому +6

      @Marty: Old post -- but if you're still around... This is not "Cleaning" as in improper cleaning... this is conserving. This is one of the accepted methods. However, I would add that coins need to be completely rinsed with distilled water.

      @@don951 Why does a coin need to be rinsed with distilled water after the acetone treatment?

    • @don951
      @don951 3 роки тому +1

      @@martin.B777 Hi Martin. It had been a while so I rewatched the video to see what was going on. The video didn't show any kind of rinse and that is important as the initial acetone is contaminated. When the acetone dries it will leave behind traces of gunk. I have always used a 3 bowl setup... initial soak, rinse, and rinse again, as the second batch will still get dirty. They always recommend running water for that purpose, but I don't have running distilled water. Some prefer to use acetone, some prefer distilled water for the rinses. Cheers!
