#Celtics Legends Reunite: Kevin McHale and Cornbread | Cedric Maxwell Podcast.
Remember watching these guys as a little kid, 80s and 90s basketball 🏀 was on another level.. Kevin Mchale had some amazing footwork. Cedric ✊🏽✊🏽 for getting these 0G hoopers on your podcast!! 🙏🏽
Larry is coming soon.
@@NBAHistoryCLNS I hope so. But from what Max has says there is still a bit of a riff between him & Bird. He's said many times he's still trying to straighten it out. #40yearCeltsfan
@CLNS NBA Legends Vault Keep bringing these guys out of hiding OG, little media tip if it helps people love to hear the locker room stories and reasons why certain things happened the way they did, example; pivotal moments in your big games, why certain decisions or plays were made. Salute Cedric. 👏🏽👏🏽
@@smittyboy13 there’s no “riff” between Larry and max lol. They spoke extensively during the bubble and text frequently. This is a man made rumor based on the (very few) instances Larry or max have said anything publicly about each other that wasn’t 100% positive. Max and Bird were champions together, teammates. Did they see life the same way? Absolutely not but they both saw winning the same way. In 2 weeks we celebrate the 40 yr anniversary of birds first title and Max finals MVP. I’m hearing some “rumors” of a reunion of sorts... 🤔 😉
One of the greatest players of all time. But one of the best human beings I've ever been acquainted with, Kevin Herman Mchale.
Darn, you took the words out of my mouth.
Even when he clotheslined Rambis?
Just looked back to see that Max was on the team with Havlechek. Cedric's first year and John's last year. Man, that's some legacy history right there.
Max was coached by:
Tommy heinsohn
Satch
Cowens
Fitch
KC
Played with:
Larry bird
Kevin McHale
Robert parish
Tiny Archibald
Bob McAdoo
Earnie D.
Pistol Pete
Don Chaney
Hakeem Olajuwon
Ralph Sampson
Norm Nixon
Infamous Rowe and Wicks
Signed by Red Auerbach.
Now that Tommy is gone (RIP) max is the only legend left active w franchise. Crazy.
Cedric was amazingly underrated
I know right? Astonishing
Easiest interview Max ever did. Kevin is a tsunami of commentary 🌊😂
You know cornbread had the day off that day lol
I was a die-hard Detroit Bad Boys Pistons fan and the one player we could not stop was Kevin McHale. This guy was unstoppable in the paint with those long arms tipping the ball in, that jump hook or turn-around jumper. One of the best players of that era by far and one of the all-time greats.
As a kid in the early 80’s it was nothing like watching all those greats play that was a special era. I still watch those old games and get excited
Kevin McCail is so underrated his foot work was incredible he got buckets.
As a 76ers fan I hated y'all but grew to have so much respect for y'all!!
Philly was a bitter rival, but I have to admit Great Fans. Same with the fans of they Flyers.
Andrew Toney the guy that gave bird Fits. He terrorized Boston Moses the doctor Bobby Jones World be free come on man Dawkins Maurice Cheeks Sixers heaven
Road to finals in the early 80s.
Eastern Conference. Boston, Philadelphia, Milwaukee. Stacked
Western Conference. L.A. Cakewalk
Man...that was a lot of fun. McHale is my all-time fav player and the one who got me hooked on buckets. And Maxwell is just a great guy. I could listen to these guys for hours...
It is so interesting to listen to you guys. All my respect. I remember listening to several videos where everyone was saying the team talked all the time and the McHale was one of the best.
Max is such a nice guy .
Greatest interview I've ever seen and heard. Max was a great player. I was lucky enough to get season tickets one year before Larry. In those days Max was an all star and one of my favorite players. Love Kevin too! Todays players suck compared to these boys!
As A life long Laker fan who at 11 years old cried with my 13 year old brother as we watched the end of game 7 in 84 I can honestly say that is the best NBA FINALS I have ever seen. It hurts to say that. We got payback in 85 and 87 but to win in 84 would have been the sweetest. Ugh still hurts to this day!
As a celtics fan that's how I fell about 85!!
And that's the year I was born
And it would be a three-peat
People forget Max was MVP in 81 and they wouldn’t of won without him and Tiny
I’m glad Tiny got that ring he was a great guard lead league in scoring and assist in same year nobody has ever done that
And probably never will
Man that’s awesome! What a great show. Two legends.
Those Celtics were tough as were the Lakers Philly and the Pistons. Real Basketball during and through out the 80's
Kevin McHale was one of my all time favorite players. Great guy and very nice!
Loved those Celtic years where these guys' careers overlapped. McHale and Maxwell both had the longest limbs and both had excellent body control in the paint. Just difficult guys to guard.
Cornbread, I gotta say, I'm loving your podcasts! you are so good at initiating conversations. BTW Max, 1984 vs. Lakers or 1981 vs. Philly. Which was the better series? I'd love to get your take
Man these Celtics were such a blessing to watch
Ahhh yeah!!! I love my Celtics! Banner 18 this year!!
Fantastic insight from both of theses two winners!
One of the best interviews of all time. Thank you.
Max had the charisma when he was a Celtic! Man, it's good to see him again.
This was so much fun to watch and I missed out on watching the NBA in the '80s when basketball was a team sport.
Two of the best!
What a fantastic interview
Marvelous interaction and stories going against bird and Parish every day in practice wow
I would love to watch y’all practice playing Larry and the Chief. That would be cool. And the fun it must have been for you four. Y’all are awesome.
Those 80' celtics teams where so good and so special no matter how much success we have had in Boston and being able to see all four teams win and win championships is awesome but man I😮 teams I was little and when I did watch them I didn't get it yet but just wanted to say thank you guys for the memories and God bless and hopefully we can have a d espiode about the next banner for the celtics ☘️
These are great. Thank you.
Fabulous player..one of the greatest
Those of you who didn't live in or near Boston at the time have no idea just how much the Celtics meant to everyone there, right in the middle of all the crap that was going on financially and racially, The team literally carried the spirit of the working classs of eastern Massachusetts on their shoulders.
Thank you guys I loved watching you. I miss fundamentally sound basketball with no traveling, team ball, and no carrying while dribbling
Best game comeback was against Philly ECF 1981 down 3 games to 1 , down 9 with 2 minutes left Celtics outscored them 11-1 on a weds night. Friday game 6 was in Philly. After this amazing comeback that fans started chanting "SEE YOU SUNDAY" , "SEE YOU SUNDAY", "SEE YOU SUNDAY" Sure enough the team won game 6 in Philly and won game 7 back in Boston , series 4-3. Won the championship vs Houston. Great memories.
All them years of good basketball made my upcoming pretty good. Growing up in CT I couldn’t miss a game. Couldn’t get to the Garden but I did make it to the Hartford Civic Center. These generations have no idea how good it was. Thanks for all them memories. Go Celtics on game 3 tonight at HOME,bring on them lil warriors boys
No one cares troll
Oh and the Celtics lost. Haha
Grew up in Utah loving the Boston Celtics!
Sure u heard the Utah story then? Lol
This channel been on for years. This was 2 years ago. How did I miss this
Very wise words from Cedric and Kevin.
Eating my Doritos and watching OMG!!! GREAT TIME AND MEMORIES I LOVE THEM ALL!!!
Damn I love these interviews idk how I missed these . Perfect thing for me old basketball talk love it
Another Super Podcast, Cedric!!!!!
Great conversation, easy listening music.
Great seeing these guys together
Ty these show r great
I can't wait to listen to other Max' Podcasts. Found this by accident. & Max love to hear about stories of your experience on team with on the Celts brodcasts and these podcasts..Thanks
I so enjoyed this conversation.
Stories show love.
❤ McHale
2 Legends'
Max had great hands. Unexpected passes to Parish, Mchale, were 50/50.
Max clawed that ball.
Thanks Rick
mchale legend🏀
this is so fucking awesome!
Saw Cornbread at the Mecca in 1976, NIT, lost two a Kentucky team that won the NCAA championship in 1978, Cornbread and Lou Massey went to the Final Four and lost to Al McGuires' Marquette team with Butch Lee
Max has the best sports podcast on UA-cam... No true Cs fan says 'Big 3'... Leaving Cedric out of that group is a travesty
Kevin 'tells people all the time'.
@41--M. L. Carr was great at towel-waving.
That’s crazy that McHale never blocked Chief’s jumper in twelve years of practice.
Walter Davis Greyhound! That's fuuuuucccked up!
Probably other then Hakeem Kevin had the best footwork ever in the game.
Tim Duncan in the mix as well for footwork.
Bird didn't do it alone some team
No player ever does it on their own.
Some are just a cut above and every player in the league knows it.
Loved this interview. I laughed when McHale said that he and Maxwell always said let me guard the hot player. I remember the year that Bernard King with the Knicks was unstoppable. I believe he scored 50 points in the game the Knicks played before they were facing the Celtics at Madison Square Garden. Cedric Maxwell made all the NY papers saying the B won't score 50 on us. He was right, King scored 60 against the Celtics in that game. Keep these interviews coming. Great memories.
Bernard never scored 60 pts in any game that series
@@MrGMillet Thank you. I stand corrected. You're right, the 60 points were against the Nets. I believe he put in 44pts against them. 😊
1. Magic
2. MJ
3. Bird
4. McHale
5. Kareem.
The All-Time Team.
FROM OG, YOUR WAS BEAT PEOPLES UP BASKETBALL PLAYERS AND THUGS BASKETBALL TOO AM JUST SAYING DAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAM
I thought Reggie Lewis made it to super star on McHale retirement year .That year C’s was LEWIS team, RIP KIDDO
Shutup troll
Reggie was on his way that's for sure.
@@abc-bu7nr shutup bruh
McHale has the best post moves I've ever seen besides Dream. Torture chamber 🤟♥️
I always thought KG overpassed and could have legit been one of those elite scorers. He could have averaged 35 ppg in his prime with that unblockable shot and athleticism.
Maxwell had a few moments, but couldn’t tie birds shoes. Bird was the GOAT. If you want to know how great cornbread was, just ask him and he will tell you.
That couldn’t be further from the truth. Unsure why this Red made rumor still exists. Was there tension between Larry and Max? No. They just didn’t chill 24/7, they played ball together and won titles together. “Just ask him?” Max is first to say he doesn’t belong in HOF (even though he most def does), he has also said over and over that had the trade talks not been so defaming to his character, and an option exists, he’d have swapped spots with McHale and went to 6th man. Can you imagine? Walton one of the most Over blown trades in history. Max played til 1990, Walton played just 82(+/-) games in 3 years on the books w Celtics. Bias died. Bird/McHale forced to log 40+++ mins per game in 87, 88, 91. Had max been there, would the Celtics have won in 87? Could they all have played a season or two longer? Probably.
Serious question bc I’ve seen u make this comment before about “max will tell ya how good he was...” do u even watch these segments? If anyone had an idea that max was so salty and jealous, then why does McHale, Parish, Tiny, McAdoo, Henderson, ML, Cowens, Tommy, Carlisle, all say otherwise. This interview w McHale is just proof of how happy max was for Kevin’s growth and how much he helped him grow. So ur claims are absolutely antiquated and have since been proven wrong.
@@mvoulgaropoulos I agree; however, greatness is not about a moment, it’s about a period of time and Bird did what Max could only do in a fleeting moment in his whole entire career with skill snd confidence Bird lead the team so long and with such authority the Celtics and all other great players marveled at him when he played as if they were mere spectators in the stands.
@@kentjax3622 couldnt agree more. Walton was more a novelty out there than anything else. Its obvious the players loved Bill hes one of a kind n helped galvanize the team, but cornbread could play the 3/4 and was capable of carrying the team from time to time
@@kentjax3622 Exactly. Anyone who even mentions Max was on Birds level is out of their minds. Not even the same stratosphere. It’s insane.
ML Carr usually started the fight in the 8 minutes he played a game.
Ainge Bird McHale Maxwell Parish
DJ?
I dont thonk Ced likes Worthy all that much.
You guys would have been a great team with Len Bias!!! MJ doesn’t win 6
The ...Super team....nonsense is ridiculous! Goodness forbid players should work harder to be better! Instead of trying to cherry pick all the best players for super team! These players have no incentive to get better! They're given millions of dollars from day 1 ....what do they have to work towards after that?!
im born in 1990s,but damm its always interesting to listen to 1980s celtics Bird,Mchale,Maxwell,Ainge interview always. Only Walton i cant listen, he is making up stories and is big time liar :))
I AM JAMES HARDEN, AND I DO NOT APPROVE THIS MESSAGE
Who cares? We don't need you!
@@Jondsmusic that's not exactly following along with the joke. A more appropriate response would be, 'The last thing we need is another president who's weak on defense'
@@porkfrog2785 guess I didn’t find what you said to be a joke. But I agree with you on the second part but that’s about to be changed shortly.
@@Jondsmusic u never heard a political ad like that?
JFK Malcolm X Muhammad Ali Bill Russell Jim Brown
I hate the Celtics and the Lakers so you know who my team is lol
76ers?
Or is it the Pistons?
Some irrelevant team🤔
Max still jealous of Bird. Bird made him obsolete and toots on horn on insignificant success. He will never get respect.

Max was a racist prick and he knew it! He even admitted it himself. He's bitter because Larry was way better!
@@NBAHistoryCLNS That’s the way you see it so that’s fine. However, you are wrong. Max was all tore up from the day Bird took the court in Boston. He knew his days were numbered at that point. Max couldn’t carry Birds jock strap which is proven by Bird being in almost everyone’s top 5.
@@wesmarshall5426 false
@@wesmarshall5426 Do you know who won MVP vs Lakers in 1984? The name wasn't Larry
I like the 84 series Max was great in both series but 81 was his best year
You Celtic guys was its Thorn in the finger to me as a sixers fan. Kevin McHale was hard to guard in the post
