@Wayne Harris Your comment: "Truth can be illusion if one wants to divert responsibility or encountering if one wants to take responsibility" This is a confused statement. Truth is never an illusion. It cannot be an illusion and a truth at the same time. To divert from responsibility is to avoid truth and replace it with falsehoods and lies. The nature of Truth is clarity and directness, so when speaking a truth, what is said must be clear and direct. It is then correctly said: "Truth is avoided if one wants to divert responsibility or encountering it if one wants to take responsibility."

Jordon is interesting to listen to because he is a rare commodity....a psychologist who is also a philosopher. It is his forays into philosophy that have led him to discover the truth claims of Christianity, psychology being of necessity agnostic. This does leave a limitation though as seen when he defines "truth," not as "what God knows (thus making truth absolute) but rather as "the best you yourself can come up with." This, naturally, leaves truth as merely a relative concept and we are once again right back to "you have your truths and I have mine." This is fine, even logical, for agnostics and atheists, but wholly inadequate for anyone within the Christian faith. But, he's learning, and improving as he progresses. By the way, as an aside, "relative truth...you have your truth and I have mine," is a linguistic absurdity, indeed contradiction. The word truth presupposes an absoluteness. When we do not intend such absoluteness, we are supposed to use the word opinion...you have your opinion and I have mine. So, you see relative truth is internally contradictory. It is a problem of misuse of the English language. The vast majority of those using it do not realize their folly.
@5:13 Jordan Peterson said: "i'll say one more thing about trust that's very much worth knowing so this is what you learn if you're a clinician most people who trust are naïve and naïve is not a virtue." What Peterson is talking about is misplaced trust, a poorly constructed trust and a misused or misapplied trust. Yes, to be trusting is courageous, but trust is never foolish or blind. It is like a DIY person mishandling a repair tool and ends up making the repair worst. Trust has prerequisites. The naïvety is the inability to recognize the truth of something, or about something. Such as morality vs immorality. In todays confusions lead by the leftists, many people fall for their claims because they are "naïve" about the immorality of the leftist claims and actions. As such, naïvety is the active ignorance of the truth.
Naivety is not the active ignorance of truth. It is the misbelief that other people will abide by the written or unwritten rules that people should. That is what is meant by being burned. You learn that people disregard the rules you abide by. In my opinion, you have to expand your model of human behaviour to include the liars and cheats.
@@lstath Ignorance is the lack of knowledge or information. Naïvety is the lack of experience and wisdom, which requires knowledge in order to see and understand the truth. A naïve person does not have the needed understanding and perception, gained through knowledge and experience, to discern if the other person deserves trust. That alone, includes liars and cheaters and all forms of evil. Hence, naïvety is the active ignorance of the truth. All this is from first-hand experience, not theories.

You're not responding to any particular truth content in what he says. You're merely responding to the flattery of him pandering to your own preconceived prejudices. The truth must always be distinguished from "what I want to hear", and only rigorous critical thinking can achieve that. The trouble with Peterson's adoring fans is that they so often allow him to do their critical thinking for them - a situation I think he understands and cynically exploits. There's little difference between that dynamic and the operation of a cult.
0:49 - 0:59 I have an opinion about this that might be naïve but I'd still like to express it. Speaking from some experience, when someone that's 'higher up' tells me something thats supposed to be truth, I'll believe them. I think Jordans expression is supposed regard who believes these lie telling people in the long term (as in more than a year or so). It could just be me but when people get told things that aren't true they'll tend to believe it if the person telling it is of high social worth. This also applies to bullies who tell you that you're worthless (just an example). If told enough times without someone else pleading against it, this false truth may be interpreted as a real truth. My point being that it is hard having reality on your side, mostly because one wouldn't believe it if it would favor them (especially after being told the opposite). Someone that would have reality positively on their side is most likely also the person that would not believe that it is, instead believing they are always the problem. Though the social aspect of the problem will most likely lie on their side, the thuth about their worth will practically always be on their side in the sense that they are worth a lot more than they think. TL:DR bully is bad, believe in yourself. You wouldn't believe it, but you're worth more than you think. Keep going and don't stop. You got this Champ. PS: If you're reading this and want to be more social and accepted within a group, just look up on youtube how to behave so you will become that type of person. You might find it hard to find something but you can absolutely succeed. Believe me, I've been in the exact situaltion you're in right now for all of my life until 18.
Listen Kid, I'm almost 50 and I don't believe ANYTHING tries to tell me anymore. What I DO believe is that there is a war between good vs evil, and I'm not even religious. And yes it is class related. And NO matter what you do Freek or whatever you think, DAVOS and the WEF are the ones in control. I used to sit around the dinner table and hear on tv how they were going to change the world.
I don't want to, say much other than, this is what, it means to, hit the nail on it's, head! Almost every single time, with this man! this is what a principled, realistic, Christian religious, truthful, trustable, thinking man is, like(2:00 stop at 3:48)THE HOLY BIBLE SAYS, in, Matthew 7:16-20 King James Version: 16) Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? 17) Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. 18) A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. 19) Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. 20) Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them(7:08) CANADA) we all need to, recognise, and take the, appropriate responsibility, and be more disciplined! All at this rate, the world we live behind for our children, could end up, touchless, the world is not getting better, as a whole, almost the, contrary in my, opinion! (To everyone that lives in, the world, because, the idea disease, seems contagious, amongst, countries)
Between *naivety* and *cynicism* is a fine and harsh line of “being able to live with oneself and others”. It doesn’t mean everything “unexpected” is to be met with either contempt or “blind trust”. Tbh… it is also where I personally categorise “religious faith”. But I don’t categorise it there blindly and utterly. As atheist “thinking” as I am, there is much good in religions as well.
More like collective cooperation. That seems to me to be easier to understand. We also have methods that solidify agreements and trust: we can make legally binding agreements so that if someone breaks the agreement, the society or the justice system will likely be able to compensate the hurt party for the betrayal. Even without a justice system or society, word does get around of someone's betrayal and thus making it more difficult for them to make deals in the future. So there's usually some kind of a cost. At its core though, trust is taking a risk.

Another excellent clip from an in-depth conversation. One thing that strikes me is that Jordan Peterson and John Anderson must be the most well-dressed men on youtube! Rubin looks fine but I take a point off from him for not wearing a tie!
I'm not religious in the slightest, infact I'm an Athiests through and through but I've never heard anyone employ bible stories in such a clever and insightful way as Jordan Peterson. Very clever man. 👏
@@lorennakocijancic8244 I've read the bible several time and to be perfectly honest it makes me laugh out loud . In my opinion it's complete rubbish. Jordan has a take on the meanings of the stories that I've never heard before, in my opinion he's giving the bible far far more credit than it deserves. In Truth I think he's seeing wisdom that simply isn't there , the wisdom is actually his own and not attributable to the bible at all. With regards to interpreting the bible using scripture, no , I'll politely decline . I've already made my mind up about religion, not for me but genuinely thanks for recommending the material. If you find comfort in your religion that's great but like I said it's not for me .
I've said it before and I'll continue to say it. I see a lot of Alan Watts in Jordan Peterson. Not nearly as funny as Alan, but the knowledge and wisdom is right there!
Sounds much tougher on those he call's you than he was when discussing Trump in the previous UA-cam that I just saw. When you talk al lot there's always the risk that a little bit of dr. Phil slips in to you. Meaning: one show he says: it is what it is and on the next show we hear him saying, there's no reality , only perception. and so on. But hey, besides that, I'm a big fan and a lot of what mr Peterson says and thinks is really refreshing and worthwhile rethinking. Thank you!
It’s funny, I’m a plumber. People call me and say they need me, I ask a few questions and tell them what to do. Then I say, do those things, and call me back if it doesn’t fix it; because if you do all that you have a “real problem”. You wouldn’t believe how many referrals I get just because of that.
I’ve spent better part of three years trying to be honest(with myself mostly)and live truthfully. It’s made things better on many levels. Tbh, the only drawback is being surrounded by liars. And you know they’re lying. In the middle of process of moving now. I’ll be leaving my daughter who has one year left of high school, my 80 yr old mother who I’ve just recently gotten close to and any semblance of community behind cause I just cant take it anymore. I’ve been on both sides of the true/untrue fence and it sickens me to the core how selfish I’m capable of being. And it trickles out into every person you come in contact with in some way shape or form.
I keep imagining his quotes as alternative Valentines Day card blurbs: "You and I, we're going to make an agreement. You're full of snakes and so am I, and there's lots of ways this can go sideways but we're going to put together an agreement and we're gonna articulate it out, we're going to try to find something that is of mutual benefit to both of us and we're gonna put our hands out and shake-- and we're gonna try to stick to that." ;D
Thats why we are so happy to loose our ideals, or we so easily let others destroy our ideals - its oh so comfy to not having anything to be judged by :)
A quote from another Intellectual." If you want to help the people. tell them the truth. if you want to help yourself. tell them what they want to hear
Jordan Peterson can be an uncomfortable listen because he challenges our view of ourselves and knows our weaknesses. He's the diet were going to start tomorrow or the addiction we will kick "When we're ready".
Lying by omission, lying because you don't want to disappoint someone or have confrontation, lying because you don't remember the event the same as the other person, lying because you need to survive, lying because your culture views truth telling differently.
Don't be naïve about the reason Jordan is on all of these social media sites. He's in it for his own glory, as he wants you to believe he knows what is best for everyone. And the big money he pulls in by going on the "road" preaching his sermons ... doesn't hurt either.
The so-called good law enforcement officers should listen to and act on this! Too many in positions of power are breaking the law and getting away with it! Many people talk about good people at the FBI, CIA, DOJ AND HHS, if they are good people there who believe in truth and the law why are they not standing up against the government using them against their fellow citizens?
"Truth is the best reflection you can have of reality," Dr. Peterson says. Respectfully, I believe he is mistaken here. HONESTY is the "best reflection you can have of reality; but one's honesty is not the same as truth, because truth is an objective thing but honesty can only be subjective.

Why do I find listening to Dr Peterson so cathartic, so restful?
Easy.
Because he speaks the simple truth without fear, no matter how difficult that truth may be, and he gets straight to the point.
He doesn't p*ss around with build ups or niceties, he says what needs saying then leaves his audience to digest it, think about it and deal with it.

Your comment: "Truth can be illusion if one wants to divert responsibility or encountering if one wants to take responsibility"
This is a confused statement.

Enjoyed this in seeing a few more things to expand in. Yet one brain need time to process.
@5:13 Jordan Peterson said:
"i'll say one more thing about trust that's very much worth knowing so this is what you learn if you're a clinician most people who trust are naïve and naïve is not a virtue."
What Peterson is talking about is misplaced trust, a poorly constructed trust and a misused or misapplied trust.
@@lstath
Ignorance is the lack of knowledge or information.
Learned a lot listening to him, he’s inspirational and transformational.

What he’s saying is the world functions around our collective courage; it depends on it to work.
I’ve never considered this view.
Remarkable.
