Two thoughts. First Nicola had you been born before the second world war you would have been the RAFs premier photo interpreter. The way you can spot such tiny objects amazes me. The second is how fortunate we were that George VI became monarch. Not only was he and the Queen Mother examples of courage in a dark time but they gave us our beloved Queen Elizabeth. The news reel was a treat.
I loved hearing Tom's excited sharing of his passion for the history and geology of the Thames and the many other rivers now hidden. How fitting that he found that medal from the rowing competition! And, as always, Nicola, your kindness and curiosity are so refreshing, especially these days! And your squirrel buddy sealed it!
When Tom related his 14th century buckleplate find to Geoffrey Chaucer's Canterbury Tales it created such a broad historical setting to a tiny find in the mud. This association of a find with a period is what I most enjoyed about this video.
I love to watch you. Nicola you keep my mind occupied from my stressful body. I have breast cancer needed 2 surgeries now I am waiting for my radiation treatments it will take 14 days then chemo pills. And watching you keep my mind learning new things. Trying to sell my crochet for a fundraiser for my 2nd stage for truly cancer free. That my life right now and I have great support from my husband
Hello Diane, Im so glad you enjoyed the video. You are going through such a tough time right now - and yet you still take the time to post such positive words. Sending you much love and hugs. I hope your fundraiser does really well. Do you have a website where we can donate? xox
I love that last statement by Tom. I research my family genealogy, and I have that same feeling of the joy of discovery when I find out more stories of individuals on my family tree.
I live in Western Australia and I love London and the Thames. I was fortunate enough to visit in 2018. I enjoyed seeing it again in your video. It was great to meet Tom and see some of his finds. London's history is amazing. Your little squirrel friend at the end is always a joy.
Tom is clearly much more than his intro suggests. There can be no debate that he is, foremost, a poet. Thanks Tom, and Thanks Nicola for featuring him. Cheers from London Ontario Canada
Just love how you do the research, and find the stories behind the artifacts. That button that Tom found! The history, and how it connects to him is fascinating.
I love the finds he shared in your video and I feel his enthusiasm and love for what he is doing. Great stories behind the finds. Like I keep saying, it is keeping history alive and renders the people behind them immortal.
I loved the story of the rings the "badly made one" and the one with the squashed band. Oh, and the history of London before the city was built. There are so many things to like. It is hard to choose only one.
I’m an American and I always enjoy watching Nicola and her Muddy Friends scratching through the rocks and finding treasure from the Themes. Keep doing you ❤
Having just watched The Boys in the Boat about the U of Washington rowing team in the 1936 Olympics, then the 2024 Olympics in Paris, the story of the 1872 race was made all the more exciting-and when the music and illustrations came on it all came to life. Thank you for the story well told!
You enable me to travel and see the treasures you collect, I love it. On Wednesday another baby, a boy this time will be born. My daughter will have her 2nd baby. We are so very lucky. xx
Hi. Nicola. I love the passion in Tom's voice as he talks about mudlarking and his finds. That is why I have been watching your videos since the pandemic. Greetings from New Mexico USA.
Thank you for the great company of Tom + Nicola on the Thames. I've always loved reading about London in historical novels + now your mudlarking has me waiting for the amazing finds you reveal to us. Thank you for deepening my knowledge + filling my retirement years with continued excitement. Wendy in South Africa.
What a most fascinating mudlarking video today! Love all the history from Tom! And it amazing that you guys can spot such tiny objects in between all the mud and rocks!!
As a rock lover, I especially liked the fossil you found! Every time you pan over a tasty bed of rocks, I always slow down the videos to scout them out🤩 I would love to read Tom's book! #LondonClay
The 1872 London Boat Race medallion imbedded in the Thames foreshore crumbles and its detailed history was my favorite today. Thankyou Nicola and Tom Chivers! #London Clay
# London Clay. I love the way you mud larkers share the joy of finding things. None of you is envious of the others finds. I also love the history lessons that go alone with your finds
Thank you, Nicola and Tom. I loved Tom's box of tiny mudlarking delights, particularly the teeny glass trinket with a man drinking from, maybe, an onion bottle. So delicate and yet crisply decorated #LONDONCLAY
So much enjoyed Tom's childlike exuberance over his finds and his very clear and detailed explanations of them. Favorite item....that wee little angel (strap end?).. #London Clay
Nicola & Tom thank you so much for a wonderful mudlarking adventure on the Thames. Explaining a bit of history regarding the finds you both make and expanding on it in the wrap up really makes your videos the best. From tiny pieces can come the most fascinating stories. I hope the two of you can get together for another explore soon.
You always ask how our week has been, mine has been hard, my young grand son was found to have bone cancer and I am devastated, reaching out for good thoughts and prayers
Thats so difficult & I'm so sorry you & your family have to fight cancer! Its a hard fight but theres been so many advancements in the past couple decades that at least we now have the ability to fight back! My family sends thoughts, prayers, & love for you & your family! 🫶🏻
Hi Nicola and Tom. To Tom: Your Angel metal piece is a book buckel. The little eye is for closing the book. It is likely post medieval. Nice find👍 I have also found one with my metal detector just this week. Lots of greetings from Denmark🇩🇰 And Nicola thanks for your nice videos❤
Awesome video Nicola !!! Nice treasures found by you & Tom !!! Thanks Nicola for introducing Tom to us. He's found some great treasures in the past & again this time too !!! Could watch you mudlark for hours Nicola !!! Much love 💕 to you from the USA !!! 🙂
Thank you again Nicola!!! ❤️Tom was a joy to listen to, an absolute wealth of knowledge! Also, the Lambretta 150 Li jersey, what a lovely tribute to your past mud larking find☺️ Again thank you for sharing your passion!! Love ya!❤️
It's really amazing that in a small bit of foreshore, there is a chance to find many little items. I loved the tiny round glass with the etched man drinking by a tree. Beautiful. Thanks, Nicola. #London Clay
Toms's perseverance in his research ( especially on the gilded Sapphire ring),, is admirable! I have to wonder how many pieces of historical or valuable jewelry has been mistaken for religious offerings or "Costume" and been discarded or tossed away by both Mudlarkers & Magnet Fishers? Great video!
What a lovely surprise this morning. A mud lark and an interesting and well informed guest. I especially enjoyed Tom’s conjoined twin find of the boat race token. # London Clay
Such great information! You and Tom are so passionately curious. That sort of thing is always inspiring! A wonderful video for anyone who loves learning!
What joy to watch a person who is so thrilled to find a little piece of history and so passionate about that find. As always Nicola such a good video I would like to have a closer at the fossil you found.

Hi! I adore your videos Nicola - you have such a calm demeanor and passion at the same time! I loved hearing Tom's thoughts - he is very eloquent and his reference to Time on the Thames was beautiful! And thought provoking. Love it all!!! #London Clay
I absolutely loved the information about the boat race. My husband and I live in Canada and we are always amazed at the history you always find along the foreshore. Thank you for your posts.
I really enjoyed all the history and excitement you share with us. Thanks for showing the old footage of the coronation of George lX. I'm glad Tom also put out his book on audio . # London Clay
The tiny glass intaglio(?) is a stunning find of Tom’s and the book looks very interesting. I love that you can spot a tiny garnet and seeing the light through it is lovely. But it’s always the most satisfying thing to watch a Nicola White pipe extraction.
The mix as Tom said, of finding “multi use” finds is exciting. That boat race coin stuck in iron was so cool! I love geology and looking back in time. I would LOVE to settle in with that book!
Actually I enjoy hearing Tom's voice it would be great to have it on audio book! Nicola thanks so much for showing the coronation video! I may be in the US, but I have followed the royals since about 1970. # London Clay
Hey Nicola ✨️ Yet again, you have treated us to one of your adventures by inviting Tom along.....such an engaging and interesting person, with a sense of humour. I was in particular interested to hear the Alvarez button story, as I used to work at the Queen Mary University, I know the location of the cemetery Tom referred to and a little of its history......it's not the only cemetery on the site. Mud + Finds + History = Interesting Stories Galore ❤ Thank you as Always Stay Safe ✨️☯️🕊☮️🧡

When Tom related his 14th century buckleplate find to Geoffrey Chaucer's Canterbury Tales it created such a broad historical setting to a tiny find in the mud. This association of a find with a period is what I most enjoyed about this video.
thank you Andrea xx
I felt a connection to this history because my mother named me after Geoffrey Chaucer

Im watching from Pakistan and when Tom connected the mystery ring to my part of the world, i was so chuffed 😊
Ooh excellent! My friend just got back from Pakistan. She was working there
I could listen to Tom for hours!
The only time I have ever heard one of these mudlarking videos that mentioned the Sephardic community in London! ❤
I am an American and I love everything English. I really enjoyed Mr Chivers discussion of his finds over the years.
great people!
Tom is so knowledgeable and interesting. I loved that mangled ring he found. I would love to win his book.
