  • If you are interested in hearing what your speakers are really capable of then I found a really really cool video on how to go about speaker positioning. It's without doubt the best video I've ever seen on the subject and I highly recommend you watch it - here's the link.

    The only way to make your speakers invisible is to listen to them in a very dark room.If you cannot see them, you will be surprised just how good they can sound.

      Yep, that does work some wonders too, but this positioning video from New Record Day really made me realise just what my speakers are capable of. Thanks for the comment

    I think the fact that you sit very close to your speakers makes any small movement matter a lot more. Ive moved mine around a bit and already feel Ive gotten the effect I desire pretty much, having them disappear so to speak. But Ill check out the video.

      Yep, that may well be a factor. I’m actually getting quite a bit of soundstage depth now compared to before so it was definitely worth it,

      No these are a pair of Mk 1 Living Voice Auditoriums. Great speakers which work really well with valve amps.

    The Townshend’s, they’re something I’ve been looking into but didn’t know if they were worthwhile. I too have a small listening room, with floor standers, but I don’t want to lose impact from the speakers by decoupling them. Wondered how they’d performed for you, vs without, are you giving anything up in sound in favour of gaining more clarity?

      Without doubt one of the best things I ever did was to install the loudpeakers on the Townhend Podiums. I have owned these speakers for over 25 years and I know their sound very very well but when I put them on the Podiums their performance was significantly improved. They seemed to go deeper and instruments were more vividly represented in the mix. I know this because I was playing an LP by Eric Clapton, Me & Mr Johnson and I always thought it was poorly recorded, but oh my god, the difference once the Podiums were in place was unbelievable. I would say the Podiums are probably one of, if not the most worthwhile upgrade I've ever made. Mine were ex-dem so I got a good deal on them and can't recommend them highly enough. I should also mention that the speakers sit on a suspended floor so whether they would have the same impact on a solid floor I'm not sure. Thanks for the comment.

      @@vinylrulesok8470 thanks for the reply, my equipment is on the top floor of the house so would likely benefit from the improvements you mention. Room treatment is first on the list but I’ll keep these high up on the priority purchases!

    I saw that video but haven’t tried it yet. Although I’m very happy to see LV pair in action. Which LV’s are those? Especially because they can be very finicky when it comes to positioning. The results when one achieves that is outstanding.

      Thanks for the comment. These are an original pair of Living Voice Auditoriums (mk 1). I’ve owned them for 25 years. The Townshend Podiums that they sit on absolutely transformed them. I spent an afternoon playing around with their positioning and it really paid off.

      @@vinylrulesok8470 I will definitely take a look at the Townshend Podiums. I have LV IBX-R3. Went from B&W 803D. Having them paired with Mastersound Compact 845. When I demoed them, as soon the needle dropped I knew these were the speakers I wanted. Absolutely breathtaking natural/musical sound. Glad I found your account. I’m also big jazz head. Subscribed

      Thanks for the comment, My room is around 3.6m x 3.7m (so pretty much square) square and the speaker's drivers are 115cm from the front wall and 87cm from the side walls. My listening position is around 110cm from the back wall. Hope that helps and good luck.

    Unfortunately, Ron is most annoying to listen to and tends to wander,
    Suggest you get a tripod unless you're on rough seas there.

    I recommend that you swap your left and right speaker so the tweeters are on the outside position s. This will widen your soundstage.

    • @vinylrulesok8470
      @vinylrulesok8470  2 роки тому

      Actually I have tried that and I found I preferred with the tweeters on the inside, but everyone is different and some may prefer them outside. Thanks for the comment.

    • @rw80
      @rw80 2 роки тому

      The reason why the tweeters are off-center is to reduce the diffraction on the side where the tweeter is closer to the edge. So the left speaker should have the tweeter to the right side and right speaker needs the tweeter to the left.

    The technic from Ron was an eye opener for me too! But to give even a bigger bump in performance, try setting your speakers near the long wall in your room instead of the shorter wall. My room is 16' X 11' and the speakers were near the 11' wall. I ran through Ron's taping again and found that the speakers needed to be even farther apart. Worth trying. Thanks for the video

    I find that speakers appear n disappear during a listening session based on the recording being play at any time.🤔
