  • If your stems have tempo changes, you don’t need to give up the benefits of warping. You can still use a separate click and sync to Live’s grid so that you can jump around your arrangement in time.
In this week's tutorial, Ableton Live Certified Trainer Will Doggett shows you how easy it is to warp stems that have tempo changes. With your stems warped and in arrangement view, you can choose to have your stems playback with the tempo changes or play at a steady tempo

Nicely explained. Can't wait to try this, as I've got some live performance tracks from the 1980s prior to our drummer using a click on headphones.

The wealth of info. you've uploaded to UA-cam is outstanding man, forever grateful. One question/clarification. I take warping to be useful in two scenarios: First, if you want to change the tempo/key of existing stems then you need your audio warped to fit the grid. Second, if you have tempo changes in your stems and want to use automation or cues etc. then you are kind of warping the grid to fit your stems.
If you only want to achieve the latter and you already know (e.g from recording the stems) over what duration your tempo change occurs (or maybe it's instantaneous), could you just automate that (either through master channel automation, or through using a tempo track) to match your stems? Meaning you wouldn't be doing anything warpy to your stems themselves?? Similarly, I guess, if you never wanted to change the key/tempo of your stems, is there any benefit to warping them when you can just manually fit them to the grid using the click/tempo tracks? Finally, how would you manage an instantaneous change in tempo of several bpm? Warp markers doesn't seem to be as good a solution there as simply automating a tempo change?
Huge thank you, again, for all the great guidance you have on this channel!

How does switching the click to leader effect your ability to take the tempo changes with you when you build a set in a new session? Do you have to do that again? Could you not automate it in a tempo file? Great vids man theyre helping me so much. Thank you

Hello, and thanks for all this info. . . I wonder if you can tell me why Ableton keeps warping my tracks? I have turned off warp in the preferences, and in the individual track configuration; but each time I record a new track (I'm just recording with a mic and a guitar through a Focusrite USB interface), the "warp" button is lit up yellow, and my tracks are out of sync.
I can't get help from the forums because my license type (I'm using Ableton First and trying to learn the basics), doesn't allow access. I could really use a hand.
    Thanks in advance!

How does this work if the source tracks are not the same length?

Hi, first of all, your content is very good. however, I have a problem still to be solved. after doing all this process that you taught, I can't do time automation anymore. in my live set I have several songs with tempo automation, and doing it in one I can't change the project's bpm anymore to continue doing in the next ones. how can i solve this?

but how can i do this in session view? i want to play tracks with tempo changes and the grid automatically adjusting,so my next track can be on the new tempo and is in grid.

You can change tempo/time signature per scene but there’s no way to automate tempo changes like arrangement view
