AT THE END OF EVERY EPS AND THIS SONG COMES ON ITS LIKE THE PERFECT SONG TO DESCRIBE WHAT YOUR HEAD IS GOING THROUGH AFTER WATCHING THAT EPISODE FAV ANIMEEEEEEE
Plot twist where all the "unknown" characters in this ending are actually characters who were effected by Satoru's ability. Even if we never had the chance to see them.
I think that, while they look different, everyone in the ending is just a differently drawn (for artistic reasons) version of characters we know. The girl at 0:45 seems to be Kayo, and the girl at 0:48 seems to be Airi. Those are easier to see why, but the harder one to see is that the woman at 1:08 appears to be Kayo's mother. This is because of her red eyes, as well as the 6 strings attached to her, symbolizing the 6 main people that she affected, being Satoru, Kayo, the Teacher, Satoru's mom, her own mother, and her boyfriend. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.
KingChickenwing through your speculations, I feel mostly that your correct, if this was just a regular romance Anime, you'd probably be wrong, but clearly this isn't. So great speculations man!
If a story has ended, its up to people to continue it on their imaginations... thats why most of stories are ended up on happy endings, cuz there no longer dramatic events after the story, which is why the story ended. Except if someone made a part 2 ;)
Samuel Partridge I literally started suspecting him from the first time he appeared on screen. Towards the last leg of the show however, I was beginning to think "hmm, maybe it's not him..." and then ...yeah.
Yea, when he said the candy was for his smoking addiction... Plus, it was a dead giveaway because it was like they were trying to make him a main character, but didn't get enough screen time. Just like Hiromi sort of.
The second I saw him I said out loud "That guy's the killer." , like , he has such a creepy vibe. If I was his student , I'd sure as heck stay away from him if possible.
Would you believe me if I told you I tried to avoid listening to this song for as long as possible because I loved it so much that I feared of growing bored of it? :/

The people that Satoru suspected to be the killer at first, but despite not being it after all, they are still pivotal to understand the background of the children that would die that winter as well as influence Satoru's decisions: Kayo's mother, her lover, Kenya, and others. Oh, there's Airi as well, who is very important to develop and motivate Satoru on many of his Revival events.
I always viewed it as the different possibilities of her life in the future if she hadn't been murdered. As in her life was cut short but when grown up she could be so many different things and that was taken from her.
God this fucking ED pains my heart. This anime was so good, and god damn Kayo's character was adorable, and it really does pack a punch knowing this is nothing but just purely fictional.

I always loved listening to the opening song to Erased but really only listened to this song once or twice. However, after listening to this song now and Sayuri's other works, I now realize I criminally underrated it. It truly is a great song by a great person. Rest in Peace Sayuri, thank you for your music. You won't be forgotten.
What do you mean? Despite the fact that the ending was nonsensical, what does that take away from it? The music and visuals, if you ask me, are amazing, and only added to my experience ending each episode.
How can anyone be mad/annoyed that Airi ended up with Satoru? It is clearly stated in the manga that satoru did not have feelings for hinazuki and only wanted to protect her.On the other hand Airi was the only friend Satoru had in 2006,the only one who trusted him and protected him from the police(She almost knocked out her manager-boss).Also you can clearly see that he has feelings for Airi in the end where he quotes "I never stopped believing" after he meets her.
The issue isn't that Satoru likes Airi, but that Kayo liked Satoru and yet ended up marrying someone (Hiromi) that you can't even see as a good match. It just feels weird and random AF. If I was Hiromi, for once, I would feel awkward by starting a relationship with someone that liked the guy that saved us both and was in coma, for example. Wouldn't you guys feel like that as well? It would be far better if they got married to strangers, for example.
@Supriya Chhetri The series is all about finding meaning in opportunities that were wasted; That's why it is called: "The town where only I don't exist". Finding the killer? That's important, but the focus is showing how many amazing people Satoru never got to befriend because he, as a kid, didn't try, and how this would come all the way with him into adulthood, to the point only a supernatural ability allowed him the chance to alter other people's lives (by saving them from death), and was what gave him the chance to re-do his life as a child to finally live a decent adult life. That's why Airi is 17 at the first time period of time and then 22 at the end of the series. 17 is late adolescence and 22 about after the start of adulthood. In the beginning, Satoru felt like a teenage even if he was almost 30 yo, because he never had any good relationships with people of his age before. Meanwhile Airi is a normal person with just so-slightly annoying problems going on. Depite the biological age difference, the two identify deeply and care for each other, and as Satoru solves his life and Airi naturally grows, both proper become adults and are ready to start a fruitful romantic relationship.

Came here after I heard the news of Sayuri’s passing. 😔 this was my favorite song of hers. 💔
It's been a whole year... The best anime of Winter 2016. For me, at least.
Alexandru-Horia Hodișan true
No, me too.
i love how the knee raises with each note its so satisfying and this song always portrays whats going on in my head at the end of every episode speechless at the end of every episode
This song accompanied me during a harsh time in my life, now I feel that I owe you a lot. Thank you for everything, Sayuri.
Rest in Peace Sayuri. My condolences goes to her family and friends during this time of mourning.
RIP Sayuri..
This song and you will live on forever in our hearts..

I love this ending , one of my favorite !Rest in peace Sayuri and thx for this masterpiece 😢
I’m paraphrasing this from another video but when I listen to this back in 2016 on my parents bed, I absolutely loved the opening for Erased
and I loved the anime and I still do for both.
and I remember faintly, Listening to the opening song, it was very beautiful, and I liked it a lot. I’m sure 90% i listened to this song but it’s been such a long time so it’s a little bit hard to remember now.
and if not, I just heard it now and it’s absolutely beautiful.
I’ve heard this version twice now and the long version once and I’ll tell you the singing is amazing. Amazing instruments and amazing vocals and beautiful song.
I pray for the family and friends of Sayuri. And Thank you for everything! Thank you for making the ending song for one of my favorite animes of all time.
Rest in Peace, Sayuri-san
ありがとございますさゆりさん

Thank you for some of the best songs I've ever heard.... Sayuri.
