The Ed Sullivan Show was a television variety program that aired on CBS from 1948-1971. For 23 years it aired every Sunday night and played host to the world's greatest talents. The Ed Sullivan Show is well known for bringing rock n' roll music to the forefront of American culture through acts like Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and The Rolling Stones. The entertainers each week ranged from comedians like Joan Rivers and Rodney Dangerfield, to Broadway stars Julie Andrews and Richard Burton, to pop singers such as Bobby Darin and Petula Clark. It also frequently featured stars of Motown such as The Supremes, The Temptations, Stevie Wonder and The Jackson 5. The Ed Sullivan Show was one of the only places on American television where such a wide variety of popular culture was showcased and its legacy lives on to this day.

The late John "The Baron" Von Ohlen on drums, use to see him in Cincinnati at the Blue Wisp.
Great music for a Sunday jazz night 😎🎷😎🎺😎
There is so much joy in this music. Woody was a good man and a wonderful musician and leader.
Woody playing soprano sax and his trademark licorice stick.
TV was so awesome when I was a kid in the 60's and a teen in the 70's. I miss the days when whole families could watch shows and movies together and nothing was filthy or gross.
I couldn’t agree more!! I barely remember Ed Sullivan but we all sat down together and watched shows after supper. I wish someone would start shows like that again.
Woody and the Herd. Wow.
Another great jazz artist! 🎉😎💜
Man... This is great stuff.
🎶 Awesome job folks, gotta love it !! 🎷🥁 🎺 🎵
Thanks for the video of a big-band favorite…😊👍!
Have a great day!😊
Never got jazz but I think I'm gettin this rift 🤔
Oh yeah! Absolutely the best.
Почему сейчас этого нет, нигде???👍👍💖💖
Happy jazzy gets you jumping really love it big big sounds ❤😂
Fabulous so joyful. 😊🎉
WOW!!
This tune is called "Woody's Boogaloo".
Mel Wanzo on trombone (to the left), and Cecil Payne on bari. Yes, von Ohlen on drums.
Shout chorus sound familiar? Check out "Naptown Blues", two live recordings by Buddy Rich, plus the studio recording by Wes Montgomery, all arranged by Oliver Nelson. "Boogaloo" credited to Kenny Ascher.
The tenor in the middle might be Roger Newman. The one to the left looks like Fredo Corleone ;-) No idea about the soloist though.
Could the tenor soloist be Houson Person?
Maybe Joe Alexander, who played with Woody at Newport, 1968, and looks fairly similar on the one LP cover to be found under his name.
SUPERBE MERCI A+
Saw and heard Woody Herman and his herd on a bill with The Who at the Fillmore West in June '69. Whee! And who's the first guy soloing on sax? (Looks like David Murray, but he would've been too young to play on Ed Sullivan show )
Joe alexander on tenor
@@bobsax36 Thanks, Bob, for the answer. I looked Joe Alexander up, and see that, sadly, he passed away in '70, three years after the Ed Sullivan show performance in this video, where he played so energetically.
Does someone have the complete personnel for this band?
Thats not Al Porcino, probably Gerry Lamy
This tune is NOT "BIJOU!"
Sounds a little like the Austin Powers theme😅
Agreed. It's called "Woody's Boogaloo".
screamin' Al Porcino on lead trpt!!! Wow could he blow the roof off!
