What is the impact of lesser critical activation energy on the driving force of supercooling? Like in homogeneous nucleation, we needed certain amount of supercooling for devlopment of critical size radius by overcoming the activation energy. In hetro nucleation, critical radius is the same, activation energy is less, should we expect this to happen at relatively lesser amount of supercooling?
    Thanx

Not an expert, but the amount of undercooling required to form an embryo (nucleus of critical radius) in heterogeneous nucleation is smaller than that in the homogeneous nucleation case. This is because of the wetting effect on the heterogeneous site. The shape factor associated with the solid-heterogeneous nucleation will determine the activation energy required to form an embryo. Larger the wetting angle, smaller the shape factor, and therefore smaller the activation energy required to form an embryo.
      Hope this helps.

Sir,What is the definition of slow cooling and fast cooling?how are they defined?

It might be related to the rate of cooling

At 8:15 How is the vertical component of the force due to surface tension balanced? Is it from the difference in pressure inside and outside the bubble(cap)?

    • @gerrystorti9692

I think it is balanced by the pressure of alpha end the strenght of the surface (giving the fact that delta stands still and doesent move or break)

Hello, when you were calculating the surface area of alpha_beta, I'm not sure where you got the "(1 - cos_theta)/2" term? If you don't mind, can you point me in the right direction?

This can be obtained by integration. I have just used the final result. Please look up en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spherical_cap.

Most of the BTech reference books are written in English ,,Sir has also learned it in English...so it is comfortable for both him and the students as well. Moreover he has explained it in very simple English terms...u should respect him instead of complaining for silly things
